Kings to add Martin's agent as assistant GM

It better be something like that. Otherwise, why, after all this time, would you suddenly name an assistant? The attendance is down. The economy is in the toilet. And we hire another high paid person?

Hmm..I'm not sure how negotiating deals, or working in poltiics qualifies you to be a GM where you are part talent evaluator. We'll see how this one works out.

He's had a knack for finding successful clients in out of the way places. Maybe Petrie in dealing with him over the years has a feel for his eye for talent.

Maybe he's going to help represent the Kings' interests when the new arena deal is announced...

;)

this makes martin's tenure with the kings as long as his agent perhaps..

I want them to bring back pete carill :D

I just hope that we’re just hiring this guy as an extra helping hand.

If we hire fire Reggie and hire Whiz then I think Geoff will leave when his contract his up. And I hope he doesn’t. I know there’s a lot of people that question Geoff and his ability to get us back to the top, but I really like him as our gm and I would hate to lose him.

Agents are best left swimming in their own little cesspools. But hey, they are generally pretty good at sliming their way into your good graces and probably can put together a mad powerpoint, so maybe this is the Maloofs doing.

As far as replacing Geoff, hey, its going to have to be done at some point, but bringing in a bottomfeeder who's big qualification is he happens to be the agent (former I would presume -- don't think a team exec can be a player's agent) of one of your players would be a rather bizarre way to go about it. But then again, we may be on the brink of hiring our WNBA coach to coach against Phil Jackson & Gregg Popovich, so who knows. Nepotism and slithering in the backdoor may be on a roll.

Levien is a real "go-getter" and if you look at the clients he is currently representing, you'll see that aside from Martin (and Turkoglu before that) there are a couple of players the Kings had signed before (Orien Greene and Loren Woods) and a couple more who the Kings were legitimately interested in at some point (Matt Walsh, Courtney Lee, Salim Stoudamire).

So Petrie has dealt with Levien pretty closely over the years, this hiring has purpose and I think you have to look to the next couple of summers and think about what he could help the Kings with.

According to Amick, this grew out of Petrie's relationship with Levien.

Okay, I probably shouldn't say anything, but it cracks me up to see a lawyer dumping on an agent.

;)

You might want to read up on Levien, though. I think you've got the wrong impression.

That's also a lawyer dumping on another lawyer. When I last spent my days toiling away over Cal App and the like, lawyers dumped on each other pretty authoritatively.

I have to wonder, unless this guy has unloaded all of his agency clients, how's he going to deal with conflict of interest issues? We've signed a lot of his people in the past, when KMart's contract is running out, for example... what then?

The article in the Bee - yesterday maybe? - made it clear he will not be continuing to represent his various clients once he inks the deal with the Kings.
