Kings this year ?

Prospect
I love the kings and have for the last 6 seasons, but I'm really losing my patience with this team & the coach. I'm not sure I can stomach anymore big losses like Miami the other night. Clearly we cannot defend like we did in the 2002 WCF season. The personnel was about the same as we have now minus the good bench players we had then. Injuries seem to be the commonplace for our team every year. So I ask, if we are always injured every year then develop the rookies throughout the season so your veterans aren't dead by playoff time ...cough/cough Adelman, or make some moves through trades.

Bobby Jackson's is out for 3 months now, where does the offense come from and where is the backup for Bibby now ? Evans is nice and can rebound/score, but he's no PG either ?

Webber is clearly labouring at the end of games, granted he did have knee surgery. He's my favourite king, but I don't know if he'll ever be the same player ? His play has been consistent for the most part but his rebounding has collapsed the last 6-7 games.

Is Petrie unable to make moves because there is nothing out there (I don't belive that) or are the Maloofs cash-strapping this team and unwilling to spend for better role players ?

We have a mediocre bench, lets face it, losing Bobby Jackson to injury & Jim Jackson to free agency is killing us right now. This team simply cannot contend with the personnel we have right now. Petrie has to make moves via free agency.

So who do you suggest we trade for? Who should we sign?

Its too early to panic. Id rather see us do good during the season then peak during the playoffs, instead of peak during the season and burn out in the playoffs like last year.

Moves via free agency? Which ones exactly? Problem is at this point I don't see whole lot of help sitting out there on the market.

If there was a mistake made with this team, it was probably not being players in free agency in the offseason. And that was probably by order of the Maloofs trying to keep a lid on costs. There were certainly guys out there who could have helped us, and extra roster spots to hold them. Just about had to be a money issue I would think.

Dude, I see your points but you've obviously hit the panic button. The Kings have lost to most of the upper teams in the West thats true. But we play most of these teams 3 more times(Minni twice more). It's only December! if we go 0-3 against Dallas, San Anton, Minni, Seattle. Then you should worry. But trust me we won't. It's gonna be a dogfight and without Bobby it's gonna be tough but this team always fights back against their percieved weaknesses. I really believe they are gonna start winning some of these "Big games". We just gotta get in a groove and get Bobby back in the Mix going into the playoffs. Just because it looks bleaker than most years doesn't mean we have no chance at all.

Just a note, but we went 1-3 vs Dallas and Minni last year, and beat Dallas and almost beat Minni. Just goes to show the regular season doesnt mean much come April.

we need more shooters.... ummm what is this thread about again? who cares, we still need more shooters....

Exactly!

You mean you have been a fan since they started to win consistantly?

A lot of us have been fans of the Kings since '85...

I do not see a drop off in Webbs game in the end. Didn't he just nail a 3pointer a week ago to win it?

First of all our bench is better then last years. Jim Jackson has been gone for a few years now and that may be IMO one of the few mistakes Petrie made. I think his great moves outweigh the few bad moves anyway.

This team simply cannot contend with the personnel we have right now.
Please expand on that more. Bibby, Webber, Peja, Miller, CD can contend with anyone when they play a full game.

BJax injury hurts but does not ruin our season.

and dont get me wrong I am not trying to slam you on ur first post... Just getting a little frustrated at all these posts about fireing RA and Trading everyone away.

Honestly nothing major is gonna be done unless Petrie feels its right and IMO he is better then us Monday Morning QB's. Just sit back and enjoy the show it should be fun.

Actually I don't mind a few losses right now. We have been winning a lot in most of the past seasons and that didn't win us the championship. So probably its good that we are losing a little ;)

Just roll with the punches baby! As a loyal Kings fan since 85', I can tell you that as much as the Kings are winning now, and as much as we cried for a winning team for the first 14 years they were here, I'm being as patient and aloof as I can, as a fan, about how the team is reacting...up one minute, down the next two, up the next three. Its enough to make a bandwagon Kings fan go insane, let alone an almost life-long die hard like myself. I got used to winning anywhere from 23 to 39 games a season the first 14 years, I lived through the Ralph Sampson, Pervis Ellison, Ben Gillery years. Oh yeah, not to mention Randy Allen, Paris McCurdy and Brooke Steppe. So whatever happens, if you're on for the long haul, you have to develop a tough skin with our team...I've had to over the last 20 years.

Get used to the Kings losing more big games. Even championship teams lose these games. The Kings are arguably not even a championship caliber team this year. Especially since Peja decides to suck in the majority of the important games the Kings play, you can basically fully expect Sac to lose a few more of these this season, and certainly some come playoff time.

And since Petrie isn't likely to make a move, this is the exact same team with the exact same problems we're going to be looking at all season. I highly doubt anything is going to change. Only thing you can do is really is accept it or move on.

this is the exact same team with the exact same problems

If we don't make some moves to improve our depth at the 4/5 spots, how are we better than last year ? This team lacks athleticism and maybe another PG, in case of injury. If we had some more atleticism, the rebounding would be better and it would help our team defense. We cannot rely on our offense to win every game and its beginning to show. I'm not giving up on the team or the season I'm just trying to look at it from an objective point of view.

Motta, Russell, St Jean.......Once I get to sleep tonight, I'll probably have nightmares now.
Yes, and how can we forget all the interim coached we've had...from Jerry Reynolds to Herman Kull. The Eddie Jordan years were SO memorable, too.

Ooh, and by the way, I've tried to block the Motta years from my mind...but just cant, he was pathetic, but so was our team...we had Greg Kite as our starting center.

Not trying to completely rag on the Kings.... I certainly don't think as long-term as Petrie does though, and it's a little disappointing to me to assume we have a pretty good shot at landing a guy like Pierce if we were willing to make a deal, and the fact that Petrie is unwilling to do so.

Of course, it's hard to knock Petrie as he has put together a GREAT team when many other GMs wouldn't have even accepted a position in Sacramento. Like all players, coaches and even GMs, they have their strengths and weaknesses. I personally think Petrie is making a bad choice right now in not going for a deal when we have legit pieces to move and new things to try.

Obviously any deal we made could come right back to bite us in the butt. I certainly don't have the basketball mind that Petrie does, but that doesn't mean he's always right either.

Anyway, I'll continue to cheer and love the Kings. Heck, I type up almost full page opinions of them when I post on here. But every day that goes by where I think we could make a deal to really improve our team and get rid of a guy who I feel doesn't belong here anymore just dampens my spirits a little more.

That said, this is a very good team and I think we'll have pretty good success this season as well. Pretty good isn't a championship, but it's respectable.

For some people 2nd place isn't too bad.

I've wonder what it was like for Utah fans all those years having a "good" team, a "playoff" team, but never a championship team. Methinks we may be finding out...

if by "moving on," you guys mean just shut up and stop complaining about the team's glaring weaknesses and relax, i don't see what would be the point in that. this is a message board, and going here to vent our frustrations about the team is our prerogative. it shouldn't just be a let's all come here and praise the kings forum.

as much as i love winnning, i hate losing even more. as a fan, i get too absorbed in the game. when the team loses, it hurts ME too. that's just the type of person i am, and i've accepted that. and i've accepted the team's deficiencies. but that doesn't mean i can't complain about them.

Hmmm...that doesn't really sound too much like acceptance to me.

In any case, it's been several days without a game, got one coming up tomorrow and Spurs on Sunday. We should all let our wrists heal, let the blood replenish, and see how the team responds.

We have some athleticism, come to find out. We have Mo Evans and that's "MO" than we thought we'd have!

:D
