So close and yet so far away

On December 5th 2000 Kings outlasted Spurs at ARCO winning 81-75 in an ugly game in which neither team shot better than 36% to improve to 12-4 for the season. Kings even survived Duncan's 23/23/2/1/5bl monster game mostly because having a PF superstar on their own. Webber lead the Kings with 30/10/3/4/4 pretty much matching Duncan's performance. JWill had 12/3/7/3, Pedja had 7/10/2, Vlade had 4/7/4/2 and DC had 8/3/1/2. JB had 12/2 of the bench.
Chris Webber and the Sacramento Kings can play tough, too.Webber scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the normally flashy Kings pounded and grinded their way to a rousing 81-75 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Victims of an 0-for-13 shooting performance from 3-point range in Wednesday's tough 82-79 loss at San Antonio, the Kings continued to try and bomb away at the Spurs tonight but went just 2-of-18 from beyond the arc.Undaunted, Webber took the game into his own hands against Spurs "Twin Towers" Tim Duncan and David Robinson. His teammates followed suit as Sacramento used a stifling interior defense to
limit San Antonio to just 13 fourth-quarter points.
"It's one of those games, it's the same game we had with them in San Antonio," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said. "Both teams just slug it out. Fortunately we made some stops, Webb hit some big shots and we won the game. It was a terrific one."
"Chris is a great player," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "He got to the rim on us a couple of times in the second half when we didn't allow him to in the first half."
"It was a great game," Duncan said. "We played hard all the way through and it came down to who could finish the game. Basically what it came down to was making plays at the end of the game and I think Chris Webber made some incredible plays to give his team a boost and take them over the top."
"They are a great team with a great player (Duncan) and any time you can hold them to 27 points, it just shows our team right now," Webber said. "(Adelman's) the reason why. He's the one who's always preaching about defense and he has that confidence in us. He's had that for three years and so now we're just finally proving it to him."

Kings lost yet another one making it 3 in a row to drop to 0.500 (8-8) with a tendency for things to get ugly and soon. Kings are 6-3 ath home and 2-5 on the road. Still in he middle of the conference but slowly losing the contact to the "top" teams. At theis early point of the season it lokks like in the best case scenario Kings will fight with 4 other teams for 7th and 8th spot in the PO which equals the first round exit. After losing to the Magic despite having advantage of being at home and fresh (for Orlando - it was a 4 game in 6 nights + back to back) - Kings will get an opportunith to "make it up" in Phoenix as a part of our back to back sequence. Also we are 1-3 on the 5 game stretch. God help us and thank god for the Clippers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is another instalment of "where are they now" section during the back to back sequences. Last week I was watching a Euroleague game between Partizan Belgrade and Panatenaikos Athens. Suddenly, the Greak team made a substitution and there was he. I couldn't believe it but it sure was him. Ladies and gentlemen - our own Tony Dlek. He played like crap and was only total of 12 minutes on the floor but that wasn't the point. Tony Delk is a former King who had only one great game of his extremely mediocre career. He scored 53 points for the Suns in a Kings overtime victory (121-117).
DELK G 50 20-27 13-15 3 3 6 0 1 1 2 53
Fortunately, for the Kings Vlade & Pedja also had career highs in that game.
It was the game that earned him a "Tony Delk Memorial Award" which was started by Mr Slim Citrus if I am not mistaking but then I kinda "permanently borrowed" it. Now it serves a good purpose.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
We suck ! - thatt thought has cross my mind recently and I am not just yet convinced that it is true. Right now we are not any good. Our team consist of Kevin Martin and a bunch of "geriatrics." Best we can do is stay close and gain "moral victories" agains good/solid teams. We "almost won" bunch of games this season. when You check the standings You won't find the "almost win" column. However, You will find "L" column and we are filling it up lately. This team doesn't have the talent to contend but it has more talent than it is currently showing it. We will have to wait till trading deadline and see where we stand. Then we will have to make decision between "keep going" or "blowing up - radically rebuilding." Either way we will still have Kenny Thomas.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
FT shooting and turnovers have been problematic lately both of them are killing us at the worst possible moments in the game. Getting to the line is great and kept us in the game last night. Missing all those FTs and turning the ball over in a stupidly retarded way caused an almost winning of yet another game. FT shooting can be explained with the fact that we don't have many good FT shooters left anymore. The turnovers however - are aggravating. It looks at times like the players never played with each other. It looks more and more like the training camp was a cruel joke. Very frustrating
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am just about sick and tired at watching the rotation created by the mastermind coack Eric "DUI" Musselman. Eve my dog realized the Brad Miller has to start because he is a center compared to KT and SAR who are not nor will they ever be centers. Heck, they aren't even power forwards due to the lack of power. Also when a coach substitutes - he should be looking for mismatches which favor his team. Putting Corliss Williamson on Howard is hardly that. What do You have to be on - to make a decision like that. It can't just be alcohol. Maybe they should test coaches. It would be interesting. For example:
They would have found valium in Adelmans blood.
They would find "Jack Russel terier" genes in Avery Johnson's blood
They would find rattle snake genes in Pop's blood
They would find a traces of a "mass destruction gene"in Isaiah's urin
They wouldn't find much in Phill Jackson blood but a cavity search would reveal the bottom half of Dick Bavetta sticking out.
Finally no one should ever test Bill Walton because we simply lack in technology to successfully do a test without risking the whole human kind.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last night we were remided just how much size matters in this game. For a stretches there it looked like an exibition between a high school and a middle school teams in which a middle school team almost won. When we were tall - we were a great team because we knew how to play tall. Now we are snall but can't play small and trying to play big can't work. The second part of the back to back will show us that speed, athleticism and shooting are vital too. It will probably hurt us more than the size.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Magic are pretty good even playing tired. Their defense is good and so is their rebounding. Bench is very solid. Our shots weren't falling and that is why we just almost won that game. We had 4 guys palying 35+ minutes and we will pay the price tonight but the game was winnable. If only Corliss would have stopped Howard couple more times.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
TDM award goes to Carlos Aroyo which could have been expected 12/1/5/1 of the bench is pretty good. And no - Hedo is not eligible mainly because he deserves more than being a scrub.
LW-VC award was won in a dominant fashion by SAR. No one was even close to such as bad as he did. When he shot a three in the first Kings possesion of the game - it was clear what would happen.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suns are hot, they are on the roll, they are rested and we are not. It has trouble written all over it. I honestly don't see how we could win this especially if Ron is not playing. If we are lucky we might "almost win" it. If we don't come out ready - it could be it in the first quarter. A win here would be an upset by all standards. Highly unlikely.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike - stop forcing it and look around !
Kevin - how about a career night
Ron - heal fast or You will have a long summer to heal
SAR - Will You be guarding Amare
Brad - hope that Muss wakes up
------------------------------------------------------------------------
KT - solid but that isn't what we need
Salmons - very consistant but for how long ?
Price - let's see if he can do it again
Corliss - feel sorry for You man
rest - mateen
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Muss - have You been drinking again?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Suns have ground to make up and we might just end up being a minor road block. They are the last team that You want to play in a back to back night.
I see Marcus Banks winning a TDM and I also see a King inning a LW-VC award unfortunately. This would be a great win but it is more likely to be a blowout. Then again Pandora closed the box just in time.
