Kings stats

I know it is early season, but stats are quite nice, except few - offence for sure is at better shape and of course there are places where to improve ....

Defensive rating - 26th with 114.0
Net rating - 7th with 3.6
Assist - 6th with 65.2
Assist to Turnover ratio - 3rd with 1.95
Assist ratio - 1st together with Warriors - 20.0
Turnover ratio - 10th with 14.2

Yeah.
Mike Brown's effect on the defense will determine how far this team can go.
The Fox point guard, Sabonis point center inside/outside game is something new. At a time when the NBA lives and dies by the 3, a guy like Sabonis commands a lot of interior real estate. The open middle makes centers relevant again.

Lots to like there.

LOVE that 7th net rating. 7th!!!

2nd in defensive rebound percentage is sweet. Obviously Sabonis is the key there, but it's not just him, considering the average 16 mpg he's not on the floor.

8th in pace is nice; I hope to see that improve.

10th TO ratio is also nice - and they've really hurt themselves by going 4 over their average of 14 in each of the last three games - and, correspondingly, well below their 3rd-ranked, almost 2-to-1 asst/TO ratio.

No, they're not elite. Yet. But the Kings are *good* in a way they haven't been for a loooong time. Next indicator is to see how they respond to that smacking by the Celtics.

Not surprisingly, worst stat is defensive rating - 25th, so only 4 teams are worse then us. When we will fix that, then will be big wins comming ....

Fox and Huerter are in the middle of the pack, Monk way out in front, along with LeBron.

This tracks extremely well with the eye test. Monk has had some absolutely absurd assists this season and been our second most consistent playmaker behind Domas.

He's dang close to being an elite offensive player. Needs to find that 39-40% 3pt stroke again.

Honestly, it’s one of the reasons why I’m open to moving Mitchell and having Monk be our full time backup PG. I’d rather have some more size off the bench and Mitchell/Monk is pretty darn small.

Then when Monk moves to backup PG, you have a perfect opening at backup SG for Davis to slot into. Then you trade for Hartenstein as your backup C and go find a PF that can push Barnes to the bench.

PG - Fox / Monk
SG - Huerter / Davis
SF - Murray / Barnes
PF - ??? / Lyles
C - Sabonis / Hartenstein

Is Fox even on here? I think it’s just “wings”
Yeah these kind of stats are "iffy" to the say the least. Monk has the 3rd highest pick and roll percentage on the team but is only in the 46th percentile. His PPP is actually near Fox though. Monk essentially plays more "PG" than wing considering how much pick and roll they give him.

Mitchell has struggled mightily running pick and roll this year. He's in the 15th percentile as a handler behind Fox as the 2nd in line as the lead pnr player from the bench. Part of this is because Brown hasn't seemed to discover that Mitchell is best when mainly going for that little elbow area in the paint. Bibby made a career coming off screens in pick and roll and pop shotting from there.

Yeah, Mitchell might have to get moved. Just never going to be a big minutes role here, Monk has pretty well shown he can run the offense and you have Domas anyway who can operate as "the back-up PG" which he more or less does for a good chunk of the game when Fox is out.

Doesn't make a ton of logical sense to move the only above-average defender on a bad defensive team, but if you can use him to balance out the roster and find a wing in a similar talent range? All the guys we've talked about I think would qualify (Grant Williams, Cam Johnson, PJ Washington, etc) as a very reasonable talent swap. That would also free up Monk to get into the 28-30 MPG range, which he needs to be playing and you just run with that 3-guard rotation. Maybe add like a Jevon Carter type as the 4th guard.

Davion can be a starter in this league. Unfortunately I don’t think his value is very high and will only be realized when he gets that chance.
I think he's a more effective scorer than he's been showing for sure but he might not be able to utilize those skills unless he gets traded to a rebuilding team and can keep his efficiency the same with a higher usage.

Could be. He looked pretty good in the garbage part of the season last year. The question is whether or not those pnr stats are for real. He's in the 15th percentile right now. He wasn't seen as a true PG in college and he really wasn't. He's a combo G and those types even finding a role long term in the league is very situational.
