There was a post above comparing him to Boozer.. That's probably right rebounding wise. I believe Love has a high BBall IQ, and Love will be a better passer than Boozer too. You don't pass on a guy with Love's ball handling ability at that position. Especially since we are the last team in assists per game. We need guys with good hands. If we are drafting 13th and Love is available we might as well take him. He couldn't hurt our team like players that are real raw could. It's not like Love will be a guy to set us back like others might.


Oh btw, anyone watching the UCONN game? Thabeet is sucking it up lol.

Boozer has a looong wingspan and he can get up unlike Love, it isn't all about height and even if it was 6'8-6'9 is still not that great. I don't know why just because he's a good college player people think he belongs in the BPA category, he doesn't. We're rebuilding, immediate results are not necessary; we can wait on high ceiling guys like Anthony Randolph and we should pick him if he's available.

Randolph is not better than Love, and the chances that a raw unproven talent could be a better NBA player than a good college player is not very good.. I would say odds are about 5 to 1 that Love will be a better NBA player. If you would take those chances than we definitely think different.

Not to pull this thread off topic, but come on, Cal was robbed? Just because it is possible that the basketball went slightly over the corner of the backboard, would you really want the refs calling that at the end of a basketball game. It's not as if Shipp was parallell to the backboard and shot it over the top. The correct call wasn't even 100% clear in slow motion, I think that's the definition of a good non-call.

Well we don't know exactly how tall either one of them are, but we know Randolph is at least a legit 6-10 with a very long wingspan. He has good ball skills, can create off the dribble, great explosiveness, quickness, good shot blocker, improving rebounder, and a developing mid range game. Yea, he's raw, but he has a talent base that fits our needs of an athletic forward who can block shots and maybe defend the post with added strength. The majority of his weaknesses can be fixed with strength and experience.

I saw a little bit of a game he played, pretty much saw what scouting reports have said about him.

Howard was raw and only had potential while Okafor was a proven college player and we all see how that turn out. We're in a rebuilding phase and I prefer to strike rich and bet on potential than a groundbound power forward. Yea, Love has great passing skill for a big man, but we already have that in Hawes. Yah but you know he's not Petries type of pick so I can't see why it happens. I doubt any of us have seen him actually play in a game so it's hard to tell. I have seen some highlight reels, and he looks pretty much like any other player on a highlight rell with athleticism. Can't say LSU was a "televised" school or anything, because they sucked. You are talking Dwight Howard... He was pretty much listed as a sure thing coming into the draft. Randolph is listed as "raw" and "project". There was much discussion on who should go one or two, and indeed Orlando picked up the HS Senior. It did pay off though. Okafor had injury problems which have followed him into the NBA. Howard did not. If I remember correctly that was the reason they picked Howard.. Or one of the reasons at least.

I see what you mean though.. Athletes will always have higher ceilings than finesse guys, but college studs that play for winning teams do better than 90% of the raw projects that play for losing teams in a bad division.

Morrison did well last year, and was poised to start this year before the injury. Why did you even list him as a failure when he did fine? Redick pretty much was a given not to succeed, because of his size, and lack of position. Nobody knew what position he was going to play, and it was dumb for Orlando to draft him. But it's only his second year.. Let's see what happens..

It's not ignorant to say that 90% of the college studs to better than the projects/raw players that are just "athletic". It's true.. Every draft there are projects that just plain suck, and that are drafted because they can jump high..

Ok you listed two players above from the 2006 draft..

Tyrus Thomas = raw/project and so far has sucked.. Morrison was better his rookie year than Thomas both years.

Patrick O'Bryant= raw/project... Bouncing back and forth from d-league..

Saer Sene= raw/project, who has done nothing but stink it up and is foul prone.

Hilton Armstrong, Cedric Simmons, Shawne Williams... I think there are more in the 2006 draft that were listed as "raw" but all these "raw" players have so far stunk it up..

1) The undersized argument is tired. Boozer is 6'7.75"w/out shoes. Amare is 6'8.5". Wilcox is 6'8.25". If Love is 6'8" or better w/out shoes it should not be an issue.

2) Hawes hasn't proven anything. You're totally ignoring the possibility that if you take a lesser player who "fits better", you could just end up with two guys who can't play. That is how you end up "rebuilding forever". I totally have high hopes for Hawes, but I think his strengths and weaknesses should have zero impact on our draft pick this year. If he were averaging 15 and 8, I'd probly think differently.
BTW- I hated the Hawes pick. I wanted Thad Young.
3) I totally agree that we need a defensive big, but I just don't want to reach for one? If there's equal or even closely graded players, definitely go for the athletic defensive guy. JJ Hickson, Mareese Speights, and Jason Thompson all look pretty good to me
4) If trading down in the draft were as easy as it is in football I would listen to that argument. But its just rare that a team will give up much to move up a few spots. So if they're offering a 2nd round pick and cash to move down three spots and take a lesser player i'm not interested.
5) I honestly defer to Petrie, and I think there's going to be some good players there. I just think Love should certainly be in the conversation.

It's not just about being undersized. It is about being undersized and underathletic. And the guys you mentioned are all extremely athletic. Love isn't totally unathletic, but he just seems so groundbound whenever I watch him. That doesn't inspire me about his NBA career. I think in the NBA his strength will be neutralized and his size/athleticism will be exposed. And it is bad enough that we are taking a chance on Hawes' knees. Love has already had some arthroscopic surgeries in his high school career too. Hopefully those arguments are a little less tired.

We aren't going to hit low enough in this draft to get a franchise changing player for sure. But I still think we need to draft for the absolute highest potential for our biggest need. We need to swing for the fences and hope to get a true impact player because we are going to need some of them at some point anyway. And until we play ourselves into the top 3 of the draft, we have to just keep swinging. BPA can be viewed many different ways. Are we talking BP now, or B(potential)P for the future?

And you need to clarify something for me...you say that we need a defensive big but you then say that Love should still be in the argument. I think we need a defensive big and I think we should draft a defensive big, and I don't think Love makes my list for defensive bigs.

If the value is not there to take a defensive big at our pick then I think we should draft a freak SF for the inevitable departure of Ron. I wouldn't mind seeing us draft a PG, but I really like Beno and fully expect us to throw a good contract his way.

You are missing the point. Anthony Randolph projects as a SF. He has the height and frame to add weight and play PF, but I would rather keep him as a freak SF. Randolph's athleticism and quickness allow him to play SF, a position that Mr. Love couldn't dream of playing.

Watched Uconn yesterday. Fourth time. Thabeet is going to be a bust if he comes out this year. He has no clue, bad hands. Could be hand-eye coordination, but he simply can't catch the ball. Tries to rebound with one hand way too much. He get out-rebounded by guys that don't even have position that are 4 to 5 inches smaller than him. He's simply not aggressive on the boards. You can't pass him the ball inside unless he's 3 to 4 feet from the basket where he has a huge size advantage in college. Pass him the ball 7 to 8 feet from the basket and he's lost and a turnover machine. He's a terrible passer, and god forbid he puts the ball on the floor.
He needs to stay in college another year. Two would be better. He's simply not ready to play in the NBA yet..

This is all true, and he would absolutely be best off waiting two years. Its worth mentioning that the times I've seen him this year compared to last year he has improved a LOT. So as awkward as he is now, times it by three for last year. I think he could be a serious player in a couple years.

Why?

Just because the specific player I would like to see us draft has more potential than skills does not mean he is totally unskilled. He happens to be ranked second in the nation in shotblocking and for being so raw he really has a knack for it.

Passing, Shooting, Low Post Offense

Man Defense, Zone Defense, Shotblocking

I probably left something out but you get the jist. Thabeet already has the shotblocking skills that we need. He has the potential to be a great defender.

I won't disagree, he looked rather sluggish yesterday. But so did the entire team. They forced the ball to him in bad spots and they tried to force the ball to him too much. UConn's whole flow looked messed up, credit WVU, they played well.

Thabeet still needs to add about 15-20 pounds in his legs. He is so tall that he needs a little more lateral growth to be balanced and enforce his will. He has many areas to improve upon. He is totally raw. I still want him. I like the way Theus and his staff are coaching, and I think Thabeet would be a good project for Reggie.

I am actually happy that UConn got knocked out yesterday. Now Thabeet has more of a chance to fall to our pick. Especially when we keep winning games. Grabbing Thabeet when his percieved value is low would be huge for us even if he pans out half as much.

Bawla, Thab eet has been pretty much doing this all year against good/decent teams. He fills the stat sheet against so-so/bad teams, but when a challenge arises he lays a goose egg. If we want a center who will average 5ppg 5rpg 2bpg why not get Eric Dampier? Thabeet definitely needs to stay in school..

If he is available in the 2nd round we definitely pick him up.. He is a bit weak on the boards, and his boxout ability isn't quite "there" yet (although he averages 10 boards, he isn't the strongest rebounder). I can see him like a 17ppg 7rpg 3apg type player in the NBA at SF..

I agree with you on Hansbrough. Not sure where he fits. He's sort of a tweener, although I think with a few more pounds of muscle he could get by at the PF position. He's definitely worth a second round pick. Someone will probably pick him in the first round though.

Watched the Oklahoma game today. Griffin looked pretty good. He's got an NBA body. Wide shoulders and a big frame that could easily carry 20 more pounds of muscle. He had trouble getting his offense going today. Probably had something to do with the double and triple teaming everytime he touched the ball. He's a very good passer and a rebounding machine. Very phyiscal player. My only question is about his knee. My only criticisim of his game is that sometimes he seems to take break while on the floor. He's a little late getting back on transition. Its almost as if he loses intrest. The rest of the time he's an animal.

Hansbrough actually reminds me of a David Lee that can score. He's pretty athletic and a good rebounder, and he can score in the post. But he doesn't have the Point forward skills Odom does(like ball handling and passing).

We know why Love was Pac-10 player of the year.. Friggin amazing in the first part of the second half.. Love couldn't be stopped.. Amazing inside out game. Finished strong at the hoop for a few 3pt plays. He had two blocks in a 1 on 1 with Gibson in a row. Gibson came at Love in a 1 on 1 and Love blocked him once, and Gibson went back up, and Love blocked it again. Gibson is supposed to be athletic Freshman of the year, and pac-10 player of the year. We would be dumb not to bring this guy in here.. Petrie, I hope you read these forums hehe.

Also.... OJ MAYO.. WOW.. Watched him a few times, and basically tonight just kept my eye on them two (Love/Mayo) for the whole game, and Mayo is one of those guys who has game changing abilities.. Easily top 3 talent in the draft.. His shot form, and creating ability is amazing.
Mayo is a very underrated passer. One of those guys that can play combo guard VERY well.. Not just an undersized SG, but a good combo guard in the making of a D. Wade. If he's not top 5 than whoever doesn't pick him is missing out.

I am in College basketball override right now checking pretty much every player that I can in the top 30 that are in their conference tourney. It's a great time for me hehe.

The other games I was able to watch tonight (so far) was Kansas and Nebraska. Say NO to Arthur Petrie.. This guy in every game I have watched him just sucks it up.. This guy cannot box out to save his life. There is NO way he can bring it to the next level unless he gets some strength..

Texas A&M vs. K.State was a good matchup.. Didn't see much on Jordan because he was sick, and only played a few minutes.. Beasley was Beasley, and we have no chance unless we get the #1 pick.

Did I mention OJ Mayo? LOL YES I DID!! This kid I would draft over Love if he fell to us because he is a friggin amazing player. Last 4 minutes of the game he took over, and scored like 9 points or something with some amazing 1 on 1 moves. I know he doesn't fill a need, but he is so dang amazing and is the type of player you build around.

Ahhh the Stanford game.. Yah, no way the Brook guy falls to us.. 30 points and 10+ boards.. Amazing performance by Lopez. Top 5 for sure..

Rose played well shooting wise, but Roberts impressed me too.. Not sure how Rose will translate into the NBA.. Will he be a combo guard?? He still doesn't look like a pure point to me after seeing him a lot this year.

DJ White, and Gordon played well today in the loss.

Hibbert played amazing, but not still not sold on him. He will be available around our pick, and not sure if we take him or not. Yesterday he played like crap, and today he played amazing.

DJ Augistin played so dang good.. If we got a 2nd 1st rounder that would be my first choice with that second pick. He is an amazing passer, and has such a sweet shot.. I don't care if he's 5'11... He's good enough to make it in the NBA, and is a pure PG..

That's all I have watched so far, but still have a lot left on my TiVo.. Just been picking out the games with players we might be interested in..

Oh yah... Love was amazing in the first part of the second half. 11pts in like 2 minutes.. Westbrook, and Collison played well, but I am not sold on Westbrook as a combo guard, and Collison as a PG.. Neither impressed me enougbh to use out pick on if they are available. Augistin is a better PG than Collison, and Mayo is by far a better combo guard than Westbrook.

My top 5 players in the draft....

1. Beasley
2. Rose
3. Mayo
4. Lopez
5-20 is WIDE open.. You can make an argument for anyone in this range. But the top 4 are there for a reason...

I got to give Love some credit. He played a really solid defensive game last night against USC. I'm still concerned about his defensive ability but he might be the best player available if he's around when we pick.

Russell Westbrook is completely overrated. He will never be a lead guard in NBA unless he significantly improves his ball handling ability. I think he has a role in the NBA because of his defense and athleticism but he isn't worth a high pick.

Mayo looks like a stud and if he isn't a top ten pick already he will be after the tournament. I still think Bayless is the best lead guard in his class but Mayo is probably gonna give you more in terms of scoring then either Rose or Bayless at the next level.

As much as the King's need a pf they could really use a play maker and there are three really impressive guards that fit the bill in this draft. I don't think we have the pieces to move up in the draft but getting Mayo, Bayless, or Rose would give the King's quality young players at both the C and PG spot. Those are the two toughest positions to fill and getting those pieces in place early and allowing them to develop could make rebuilding a much easier process.

The other games I was able to watch tonight (so far) was Kansas and Nebraska. Say NO to Arthur Petrie.. This guy in every game I have watched him just sucks it up.. This guy cannot box out to save his life. There is NO way he can bring it to the next level unless he gets some strength..

Texas A&M vs. K.State was a good matchup.. Didn't see much on Jordan because he was sick, and only played a few minutes.. Beasley was Beasley, and we have no chance unless we get the #1 pick.

Did I mention OJ Mayo? LOL YES I DID!! This kid I would draft over Love if he fell to us because he is a friggin amazing player. Last 4 minutes of the game he took over, and scored like 9 points or something with some amazing 1 on 1 moves. I know he doesn't fill a need, but he is so dang amazing and is the type of player you build around.

Ahhh the Stanford game.. Yah, no way the Brook guy falls to us.. 30 points and 10+ boards.. Amazing performance by Lopez. Top 5 for sure..

Rose played well shooting wise, but Roberts impressed me too.. Not sure how Rose will translate into the NBA.. Will he be a combo guard?? He still doesn't look like a pure point to me after seeing him a lot this year.

DJ White, and Gordon played well today in the loss.

Hibbert played amazing, but not still not sold on him. He will be available around our pick, and not sure if we take him or not. Yesterday he played like crap, and today he played amazing.

DJ Augistin played so dang good.. If we got a 2nd 1st rounder that would be my first choice with that second pick. He is an amazing passer, and has such a sweet shot.. I don't care if he's 5'11... He's good enough to make it in the NBA, and is a pure PG..

That's all I have watched so far, but still have a lot left on my TiVo.. Just been picking out the games with players we might be interested in..

Oh yah... Love was amazing in the first part of the second half. 11pts in like 2 minutes.. Westbrook, and Collison played well, but I am not sold on Westbrook as a combo guard, and Collison as a PG.. Neither impressed me enougbh to use out pick on if they are available. Augistin is a better PG than Collison, and Mayo is by far a better combo guard than Westbrook.

My top 5 players in the draft....

1. Beasley
2. Rose
3. Mayo
4. Lopez
5-20 is WIDE open.. You can make an argument for anyone in this range. But the top 4 are there for a reason...

I can't add much to what you said. I watched almost every game you did. The three players that really impressed. Love, O J Mayo, and Lopez. I agree, that as much as I like Love, I would take O J Mayo over him. Mayo is a game changer. He can do it all himself and also make the people around him better. There was a time when I though he might slide a little, but the way he's playing now, he only going to rise.

The game to watch today children is the UCLA - Stanford game. Love against Lopez. Anyone that wanted to see how Love works against legit big men this is the game to watch.

I liked Westbrook early on, but the more I see of him, I wouldn't use a first round pick on him. Reminds me of a shorter version of someone we just cut. Dhantay Jones.. I do like Collision though. He would be a perfect backup to Beno, assuming we resign him. I just don't like him at the spot were picking. He won't slide into the second round.

I have the same feeling about Hibbert that you do. He's very inticing. He's almost like a big tease. Everytime I close the book on him, he jumps up and out plays someone who's susposed to be better than him.
