Kings salary situation

I vote sign Tyreke. Amnesty Salmons. Trade some mix of Jimmer/Thornton/JT/PPat for Gortat. Grab a cheap roleplaying D and 3 SF.

I just don't see Iguodala coming here for anything we can afford.

why would we amnesty salmons if we're not getting dre? and i would rather go after gibson b4 gortat

Because he's awful and one of our highest paid players. Seems to me like Gortat does almost everything equal or better than Gibson. Besides the Suns stated they're listening in on offers for Gortat and I haven't heard anything about Gibson being available.

you do know hes expiring? and besides you jus traded our whole bench for gortat, we could use him in your scenario

Depends on if they're trying to get good this year or not. I said some mix of the bench...not every one of them. I don't want to argue about this. Just do whatever you have to do to get rid of Salmons and get Gortat or even Gibson and I'll be a happy camper.

Can I get a clarification? Can't we sign Tyreke, McCallum, and McLemore after we sign Andre assuming we can find room under the cap for Andre. I thought signing our RFA and draft picks were exceptions that allow us to go ove the salary cap. I don't know if it makes a difference but I'm curious as it seems a lot if not most people think we have to sign Tyreke first. As his cap hold is around $13 mil and the assumed salary for next year is $11 mil, the 11 and 13 don't offer a whole lot of advantage to signing Tyreke first.

The basic answer (that is, for the question on Tyreke) is no, it doesn't help to wait to sign him until after other signings. The $13M cap hold counts against our salary cap until we either sign Tyreke (for a hypothetical $11M, earning us $2M in cap space) or renounce the cap hold. But if we renounce the cap hold, then we thereby lose Bird Rights and we can't exceed the cap to sign him - he's like any other free agent on any other team to us at that point.

So the answer is that we don't HAVE to sign Tyreke first, but if we do intend to sign him and we will pay him less than his cap hold, then we ought to sign him first because it frees up money. If we were going to pay him MORE than his cap hold - which we can do because of the Bird Rights - we would be better off making his signing our last transaction.

As for our rookies, it's a bit of a different case. McLemore's cap hold is at 100% of the rookie salary scale for the #7 pick. However, the CBA allows rookies to sign anywhere between 80% and 120% of the scale value, and it is customary to sign them for 120%. We will likely wait to sign McLemore until we are done wheeling and dealing, because he currently counts at 100% but would jump to his actual contract value (if over 100%) once he signed. McCallum will likely be last to sign. Second round draft picks do not generate a cap hold at all, though there are rookie exceptions available to allow us to exceed the salary cap to sign him. Since he won't enter our cap calculation at all until we sign him, he will sign last.

I understand. It may depend on how much difference the $2 mil between salary and cap hold makes. I've got it. My assumption has been that the $2 mil may not make much of a difference especially if signing Tyreke first eliminates the possibility of signing Andre.

My wish is that both guys would say "gee, this could be fun" as they both were together on some vacation. They would both settle for $10 mil apiece - yeah, sure.

Once the draft passed, I knew there wasn't going to be a good chance at signing Iguodala if we resign Evans. I was thinking we could shed contracts by trading back or trading Thomas and/or Fredette for picks, but of course when McLemore falls into your lap you don't do that. I'm still upset we didn't get a pick out of Fredette though.

We can still trade him for a future pick can't we? Like Houston just did with Thomas Robinson. If we amnesty Salmons, we just need to find a taker for Hayes, Thornton, PPatt or JT's contracts to open up space for Tyreke's new deal and the Idoudala offer. Any one of them would work. Or maybe unloading both Jimmer and Isaiah?
