Kings rookies

Starting to think we're in the running for three awards now. ROY, COY, and EOY. Geoff Petrie: Greatest. Drafter. Ev-var.
We were debating this on another board, but Petrie should be a front runner for EOY considering we were expected to win about 20 games and will likely win 30-35.

Looking at the history of the award it typically goes to an executive for moves they made THAT season. So while Presti has done a great job building up a strong, young team in OKC, it would be faily unprecedented for him to win despite their record since Mullins, Maynor, Ibaka and Harden aren't really contributing to their success. Ditto for Morey in Houston. Their record is amazing considering no Yao, but there's no big addition that has sparked them, more internal player development and a well constructed team.

In terms of who can compete. RC Buford could compete, but the Spurs are likely to win about the same number of games as last year and Jefferson, Blair, Bogans and McDyess have been nice, but have not really given the Spurs a big boost. They are still leaning on Duncan, Ginobili and Parker. Chris Wallace might get some votes for bringing in Zach Randolph if the Griz remain over .500. And if the Raptors continue their torrid play, Coangelo could get serious consideration for bringing in Turkoglu, Jack, Belinelli and Amir Johnson.

Overall though, unless a team makes a serious mid-season acquisition, I believe Petrie should be adding another EOY award to his trophy case.

Especially when you consider his hiring of Westphal. And not to discount Udoka's performance thus far. Which has been key. By who he brought in, he completely changed the culture of this team at a time when we most needed it. With or without a mid season trade for us, I think he's pretty much got it locked up. I mean, how can you not give it to what is shaping up to be the single best draft for any team in the history of sports? (Of course time will tell that, but it's looking good!) I mean we quite literally could be looking at the top two rookies, taken at 4 and 23, We'll at least have 2 of the top 4. And if Brockman continues to start, and I see no reason why he won't, he could seriously become a David Lee or better type of player. When you are that good of a rebounder, it's not something that you really have "off" games at. He's defense has been surprisingly good as well.

Yeah, he did an amazing job. Lol, best draft, we will see. Hard thing to quantify. I mean the Spurs drafting just Duncan or Cavs just LeBron might win; however, when you look at the value of the players for where they were picked, it's an amazing job by Petrie.

As for the midseason trade, I didn't mean by the Kings, more that another GM could steal the award from Geoff if they trade for a superstar at the deadline (Jamison to the Cavs, Bosh to the Thunder, etc.).

What do they feed the kids in Snohomish, Washington?

Seriously, nice first NBA start for Brockman though. Now, if only he had a perimeter shot his minutes would be more consistent.

Love Brock. He strikes me as a more intelligent version of Reggie Evans. Undersized PF who rebounds like a maniac and plays tough. Won't block a ton of shots, but affects the game. Evans had his moments, but only had so-so basketball IQ. Brock seems to have it in spades. I like the potential he has as a role player.

Actually, funny you should ask. I'm right here next to it. And actually, I used to go there to get some of my foodstuffs. The answer would be GRASS FED beef, (about 100x healthier, vitamin and mineral content wise) and other grass fed meats. Up here it's all about grass fed, locally produced meats, and whole, raw dairy, not the processed dead stuff you see in the store. eatwild.org

I manage a GNC near Snohomish and some of the local junior college basketball players come into my store. One of them knows and has played with Mr. Brockman, and is close friends with Hawes' family. As a nurtitionist I make dietary suggestions and I have the kid on a very specific diet to enhance his performance. I would LOVE to get the Kings on these diets. You would not believe the difference it makes. Can you imagine Lance Armstrong eating or promoting fast food like some NBA players?? GRASS FED MEATS people. Yeah. All y'all eat that.

But the guy promoting McDonald's is Dwight friggen' Howard, who may possibly the most imposing physical specimen in the NBA. It doesn't seem to be hurting him :)

The Rooks are absolutely amazing especially since they are about in "hit the wall" territory. Tyreke and Jon have played in more games in 2 months than they have ever played in one year in college. GP for EOY again!

Tyreke gets tired but Coach seems to sit him enough to start to overcome it. Once Martin gets back, Tyreke can get more rest for the remainder of the year. But considering, he and Omri are so far beyond expectations to now claim "A miracle has happend for the Kings". Then Brockman as icing on the rookie cake. How many 2nd round picks don't even get to play except in junk time yet The Brockness Monster is in there in the 4th quarter many times. HOLY COW!!! :D

If anything Reke is just getting stronger as he is figuring out his greatness:

Oct: 12.7pts 3.0reb 3.3ast
Noc: 20.3pts 5.5reb 5.1ast
Dec: 22.1pts 5.3reb 5.1ast
Jan: 23.2pts 5.0reb 5.8ast

There may or may not be a date with the wall coming -- its a real phenomenon both physical and as teams scoout and figure you out. But Tyreke defies all those sorts of pedestrian trends and phenomoenons. He's so big and strong for a rook, so far ahead of what any rook basically since Lebron has done, that he is kind of making up his own rules as he goes.

I dont think Reke learns through experience, so much as he gains power by consuming the souls of rival backcourts.

If he had the hops I'd say he'd leap over the rookie wall...But knowing Reke he'll probably just put his head down and smash through it.

This is awesome !! He is rewriting the rookie rules. He has played a 1/3 of the season and no signs of wear. When Martin gets back he will get even more rest. Evans is a Phenom. It is impossibly lucky that the Kings ended up with the best player in the draft by getting the worst possible draft position (4th) with the lottery. Just goes to show you that the lottery isn't a science. I honestly do not believe that Blake Griffin will be better than Evans is now. Big men usually take a few years to develop though so we probably wont know for a few years. Thabeet and Harden are not going to be better than Evans. So we backed into the best player in the draft!! :D

The Rookie wall is usually a combination of exhaustion, scouting, and mental toughness. I think Tyreke is a physical specimen that will overcome the exhaustion, I believe Tyreke has his head on straight being grounded by his brothers that raised him, and the scouting report hasn't seemed to help the helpless that have tried to guard him!

The Double team isn't working either. They have double teamed this kid from day ONE! That alone is amazing! His outside shot is getting better, as we saw in last nights game against Denver. When that jumper is money, he will become one of the elite players in the game! He already is an elite player but with a jumper he becomes lethal!! Double teams will mean nothing when he starts raining bombs on teams that play off of him. And when they run out to contest he will be one on one with whoever is the double teamer (usually a big that is slow and helpless in 'Reke's path. ie see Milwaukee's Andrew Bogat ) Then 'Reke can either take it to the hole or dish out to a wide open Martin, Casspi, Beno or Garcia and WOW!

I believe the basketball gods are making right what was made wrong in 2002! I can't believe that Tyreke Evans is ONLY 20 YEARS OLD !!! He is gonna get BETTER folks!! How much better he can get is totally up to Tyreke. I am unable to imagine a Tyreke with an outside jumper and experience to deal with every situation. I can't imagine how good this kid can become!! The SKY is truly the limit for Tyreke! How great is it that the Kings have this guy on the roster?? GO KINGS !! TYREKE FOR ROY and maybe MVP down the road!! :D

And as for Geoff Petrie, how great does this draft class look? 'Reke is an evolving SuperStar. Casspi is better than ANYONE could have possibly dreamed. And Brockman is a BONUS! 2nd round players usually don't make it into the league let alone play in the 4th Quarters of close games! 2nd Rounders Rarely if ever start! How Awesome is Geoff Petrie? GENIUS!

I unfortunately have to disagree with the no wear statement. Reke's ankle has taken a serious pounding and you can tell that he is not 100% (which is incredibly scary for the opposition). When he gets healthy, I truly believe he will bring on the end of the Mayan Calendar.
