2005 Kings Preview: Sorry!
Published 2:15 am PST Tuesday, November 1, 2005

They were once key pieces in the Kings game plan. But one by one - either by trade or free agency - they left Sacramento for other stops around the NBA.

Bee staff writer Joe Davidson takes a look at the former Kings out to make Sacramento "Sorry" it ever let them go:

Maurice Evans: A camp long shot last fall, his electric play had some Kings fans thinking long-term contract. Evans signed with the Pistons because he's versatile and he can defend, and hell be counted on to be an ace reserve again. How he fares against his replacement in Francisco García will be a nice subplot. Tuesday, Nov. 8 - vs. Detroit, 7 p.m.

Doug Christie: Trading Christie was as gut-wrenching a decision Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie and coach Rick Adelman have ever made. The classy veteran said he will forever speak glowingly of his Kings tour. After a forgetful stay in Orlando, how will Christie fit in with the Mavericks? Will his ankle allow him to be the player he once was? Does Kevin Martin take him to the rack in a cosmic déjà vu? Thursday, Dec. 22 - vs. Dallas, 7:30 p.m.

Chris Webber: Webber's first game for the 76ers was against the Kings after being traded from Sacramento, and he was nearly the hero at the end of regulation with a shot that just missed. C-Webb insists he's fit and healthy, but have we seen the last of the All-Star Webber? Tuesday, Jan. 3 - vs. Philadelphia, 7 p.m.

Jimmy Jackson: Of all the departed Kings, fans still bemoan this one the most. Jackson could defend and shoot; didn't want to leave Sac and could again prove to be a real thorn in franchises side in a battle of Pacific Division heavies. Friday, Feb. 10 - at Phoenix, 6 p.m.

Bobby Jackson: There were moving ovations for Vlade Divac, Webber and will be for the Christie return, and the loudest of all may be for B-Jax, whom even the common fan could relate to. Tireless energy, a penchant for hitting buzzer beaters, will he do it against the Kings now? Friday, March 10 - vs. Memphis, 7 p.m.

Cuttino Mobley: "Cat" had some good games for the Kings and torched his former teammates in a preseason game with his shooting. Can he do it for a full 48 minutes? Will he pass to Sam Cassell at all, or vice versa? Will the Clippers be a contender or well out to sea again? Sunday, Apr. 2 - vs. Los Angeles Clippers, 6 p.m.

And I would be the first one to stand up and cheer.

Kings will miss Bobby - much more than we think at the moment

The Jim Jackson lose was big, and I was very disappointed we did not resign him. Jim Jackson knew his role and what he had to do while on the floor – defend and knock down shots. He was a big, strong OG/SF that could also handle the ball. I loved seeing the Jackson’s (Bobby and Jim) at the scorers table ready to check in, giving Peja and Bibby a rest (PG BJax, OG Doug, and SF Jim Jackson).

What made this happen was the high hopes put on Gerald Wallace – a gamble that did NOT pay-off.

This is true.

Unfortunately we've already been missing him for a while...

Nothing the Kings could do about Evans changing his mind in July, unless they wanted to split the MLE on him and someone like Reggie Evans. Which I would of been fine with, too ;). But we wouldn't be as good had we not luckily got SAR.

If B-Jax stays healthy, then yeah. But I'll miss him either way, even when he only played 20-30 games.

G-Wall if he stays healthy could have an even better season than last.
