Kings Pre-draft Workouts

Wow! Vlade must be more secretive than Petrie was or NO ONE in the top 10 is coming in for workouts?!?!?!

What happened to the trend of doing big group workouts with multiple teams in attendance?

Vlade is in Europe attending Eurocamp, that started today and will run through Sunday.

No announcements about future workouts is kinda troubling though.

Will Eurocamp have the top nba prospects like Mario H, Kristpas P.? or just other prospects?

When will Vlade be back?

So Carmicheal Dave says there's no chane Kings draft Mudiay if he's there at 6. Mudiay's camp says he will work out for the first 5 teams only. Sac is going to workout Cameron Payne next week....possible pick at 6. Is this calculated to get Mudiay to workout? If I'm him, I'd probably extend my workouts to include Kings.

I believe that WCS is picked at 4 to the Knicks...feel strongly about that. I don't believe Orlando will pick Mudiay with Elfrid Payton their guy.....so 5 is the biggest mystery.

The Knicks would be foolish to pass on Mudiay. I can't see him being a great fit with the Kings but in NY Mudiay and Melo can just split the shots down the middle.

Does Mudiay fit into Phil Jackson's triangle? I'm going to say he doesn't and that WCS is a better fit.

Porzingis is already in USA
Hezonja is in Spain, playing in POs.

Camp ends on July, 8th and Vlade is likely to go for a long vacation in the Alps after that. I obviously don't know anything about Vlade's plans, but I believe it's safe to assume, they might start running Sacramento-based workouts as early as July, 10th.

No he doesn't, not unless they play him at SG.

The triangle has some very specific effects on certain positions. None moreso than the PGs, who are simple game managers/defenders/spot up guys. Any PG who actually needs the ball/dominates the ball will struggle in that system. John Wall or Westbrook would be terrible at it. CP3 or Curry would at least be able to spot up I guess.

On the other hand big physical wings who can create for themselves and others have been a staple, and Mudiay is a big PG, so you slide him off ball...maybe.

I hope you meant June?

This happens every year. It's not in Mudiay's interest to workout for anyone lower than 5. We can probably get an informal interview though. Should we draft him anyway if he's still on the board at 6? Yes, I think so. It's not a pride thing, it's posturing. Every agent does it. Talent is still talent.

I'm getting nervous we don't have much noise in workouts.

I'm not certain why that is, but its enough for me to start going crazy here.

WTF is this?
Are the Kings TRYING to become a laughingstock of the NBA?
Why would they be wasting precious draft-prep time on guys who aren't going to be drafted by ANYone, and only have a snowball's chance of playing for ANY NBA team?

Don't they, like, have serious work to do, preparing for the most important (personnel-wise) off-season in franchise history?

Well, if they want to trade down, these are the guys they can get.:p

This is one of the more ridiculous statements I've read in awhile. Have you already forgotten how this guy ended up on the Kings?

Right?

I doubt we get WCS, but I feel that any one of Mudiay, Winslow, or Johnson will turn out as good as anyone we can get if we trade the pick.

Unless we package the pick with someone else for a SOLID/youngish vet, let's do the draft.

Just because the asses of past FOs have miffed the draft, doesn't mean we should discount it entirely.

Wouldn't surprise me if we're blacklisted honestly. Vivek inherited the Maloof dumpster fire, and instead of putting it out, he crapped all over it.

PDA's directionless Machiavellism didn't do us any favors around the league either.

Might take a few years for Vlade just to convince the league we aren't a bunch of career destroying idjits..... and that's IF Vlade is even capable...and that's IF Vivek can stop being a meddlesome tool.... IF Cuz doesn't demand a trade midway through another crap season....

....Siiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggghhhh...

What if next to no one on most peoples mock's at top 10 come in this year?

And we don't trade the pick.

Should be all we need to know.

I think Vlade is being realistic. We only have one pick, and that's in the first round. I don't think he's looking to trade for more picks so he's not going to waste time looking at a lot of players who won't even be considered. The guys being looked at right now could well be just fodder for summer league and training camp.

Vlade himself told, that they are looking at 5, maybe 6 guys, so it would be a short workout list anyway. And he didn't indicated, how many of those are expected to go top-4. :p

Whether or not agents tell their clients to avoid the Kings in the lead up to the draft, when a player comes into a situation with Cousins, Gay, and Karl and the opportunity to play a big role on a winning team in front of a loud and enthusiastic fanbase that really cares inside of a brand new state-of-the-art arena -- I wouldn't be too worried that they won't want to stick around when that rookie contract is up. When the team starts winning, national recognition and accolades will follow. Our job is just to pick the best player. There's tons of information out there on all of these guys. Even if somebody won't work out for us, it's not like they would be drafted on name recognition or reputation alone. Pre-draft workouts can be a double-edged sword anyway. You get a prospect in there who has a really good shooting day for instance and you could start to question the greater volume of data out there suggesting they're actually mediocre in game situations. I prefer the relative silence we've had so far this year to the open-house sideshow that the draft became last year. Tight-lipped is usually the best way to go.

Cherry picking talent for a system in the top 5 of a draft when you have almost NOTHING to build around just fits along into the same area of foolishness.
I agree except that WCS is an equal talent to Mudiay, different positions but equal talent. Both players have upside and are top lottery worthwhile picks and both have question marks.

Depends on what you call talent. Mudiay has the potential to get a team 20, 5, and 5. In his entire college career WCS was slightly under productive in most categories. Mudiay has offensive tools to be a star on the right team, WCS is an upper classman role player along the lines of Chris Anderson. Both are valuable in their own way but for a team needing actual talent it would be a major mistake for the Knicks any way you slice it. Just the same it would probably be a mistake for the Kings to take Mudiay over someone like Willie.
