Kings Offer Contract to George Karl

Wow.
Just wow - I am REALLY impressed by Cousins' direct response to this issue. He should have done it days ago, but I love his straightforward wording.

Vivek and the rest of this organization had better be careful about who they **** with, because they are being made to look like bumbling kids here by their "volatile man-child bad-attitude, coach-killing cancer" DMC.

How can a guy as maligned and distrusted as Demarcus Cousins possibly use media to better effect than an entire front office, who has countless media experts employed?

Haha. Fantastic quote. Our front office has humiliated themselves, but, in the process, has allowed Cousins to showcase his maturity. #SilverLiningGeorgeKarlPlaybook

Nice hashtags, and good point. I feel like the narrative at the all star game will be "DeMarcus Cousins is playing like a superstar in spite of his team's chaos", not "DeMarcus Cousins is causing his team's chaos"

.

To be fair, these quotes came from Cousins' agents, who have countless media experts employed as well.

By God's plan...

Cousins was referring to the fact that he, John Wall, and Bledsoe are planning to re-unite once their respective contracts allow it.

:D

demarcus comes across here like the patient adult in a room full of petulant children screaming "it wasn't me!" i've long simmered over the notion that he wasn't consulted about the mike malone firing, or told in advance of the decision. it's equally distressing to me that he hasn't been consulted about the george karl negotiations. there were reports of the kings' front office meeting with demarcus and dan fegan in order to discuss the future direction of the team, but it's clear that they hadn't involved demarcus in any of this season's coaching-related proceedings until that point...

now, i'm not suggesting that the front office should offer demarcus authority over the hiring/firing of staff, but wouldn't it seem wise to include their franchise cornerstone in the process? wouldn't it seem to be in their best interest not to further alienate a supremely talented big man who takes every alienation, grievance, and perceived slight as personally as possible? this is why many are concerned about demarcus' long-term future in sacramento. either the kings' brass doesn't value demarcus cousins nearly as much as they say they do, or they're just woefully out of their depth as they navigate the wasteland of their first two seasons on the job...

That takes nothing away from the statements. They are clearly in his voice. He chooses his advisors, mind you.

Not taking away from the statements at all. Just pointing out that he has plenty of media savvy in his camp and we shouldn't be surprised that it's more effective than the FO.

Here's the reason why:

Vivek believes the players are employees, and are expected to do what they are told.
He is likely an authoritarian who's organization doesn't treat the players with the respect they feel they deserve.
This has been established IMO by the months of leaks, slimy behavior, and lies/disrespect of the front office.
It was PROVEN IMO by Vivek actually being surprised that Corbin wouldn't prove to be a better coach than Malone for this team.
He actually thought you could plug in anyone to take over after the respected coach was fired.

They treat the players as automatons that should do whatever they are told. (It was reported in a profile piece on Vivek that he doesn't even bother to learn employee's names - gives them nicknames like "Baldy" and "Red")
The leaked gossip (I'd love to hear a story to substantiate it) that there are unreasonable off-court player/behavior expectations forced on them and expected by the front office is just the decorative frosting for the FO's approach.

Curious about bolded. Haven't heard too much on this. Can you re-cap some?

I've been hearing awful stuff about Vivek outside the forum worlds and while I have no faith in one of the sources, the person is regularly credentialed to shoot games on the court so he may have access to people that do actually know things. Everything from the routine FO missteps we talk about here to the way the players off court lives are being (mis)managed. I really don't want to believe it and I hope that as much truth there is to it can be explained by naivety curable by a disaster like what we're currently experiencing.

Funny how the same statement is paraphrased and completely changed the tone of the comment. Either way, boogie sounded quite mature.

You haven't seen Leslie on twitter, have you?

It's actually an interesting dynamic that the ownership and FO who billed themselves as tech savvy and even tech pioneers in what they'd bring to the NBA, have used the internet and social media in a worse manner which has been more detrimental to their cause than any FO and ownership group I can remember.

It's almost like the internet and social media is new to them and they're just figuring it out, completely naive to the damage it can cause with constant leaks and incompetent/foolish statements which will obviously become the subjects of discussion online. Causing so much backlash that Vivek and his assistant felt the need to block numerous fans on twitter and couldn't deal with them is quite ironic given what they represent in the tech sector.

I think we have to stop assuming these "leaks" are from the FO. It is also very possible that whoever is doing this has a hidden agenda. Agents, disgruntled employee, opposing teams, ex-girlfriend, old girls high school basketball coach, journalist against cuz, etc...

Boogie had a humble up-bringing and one year of college yet comes off as the most professional in the organization with these tech guru's, PDA the lawyer, and business tycoons. Very sad tbh.

Cousins is very careful about who he trusts and does business with. Is no surprise he would choose people that represent him well.
