Enough about the knee. How about that hair? Ron Artest changed his hairstyle on Thursday night, trumping the Mohawk he wore back in mid-January with a more loyal look. He shaved "Kings" on the back of his head, with the lettering stretching from his left ear and nearly to his forehead on the other side.
"You can do that when you're on the best team in the league," the hyperbole-prone Artest said as he bounded through the locker room before the Kings faced the Lakers.
The Kings small forward first braved the public early on Friday, when he and shooting guard Kevin Martin watched the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League play at Staples Center in the afternoon.
Artest played well with his new look, scoring 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting in the 116-108 victory over the Lakers. He returned after a one-game absence because of knee soreness.
Hart in wait mode -- Officially released from the Kings, Jason Hart is sitting on the waiver wire and hoping no team picks him up.
Although the wire period is 48 hours, weekends are not counted, meaning Hart should be free to sign with the Clippers as expected Monday. Only teams that are under the salary cap can pick up a player on the wire.
"I don't anticipate any of those teams doing that," said his agent, Bill Neff.
"Our hope is that (the Clippers) will indeed do what they seem to want to do, as well as one or two other (teams) too."
Should Hart join the Clippers, he would face the Kings on March 30 at Arco Arena and April 15 at Staples Center. It would be a welcome situation for Hart, not only for the possible playing time but for the locale. Hart is a Los Angeles native, having played his prep basketball at Inglewood High School.
What's more, Hart has spent his last two offseasons working out in the Clippers' practice facility in Los Angeles.
With Shaun Livingston out for the season because of a dislocated left knee, second-year player Daniel Ewing received his first start of the season Thursday, and the Clippers also are using veteran Sam Cassell and rookie Will Conroy.
"If I'm the (No.) 1 (backup), 2, 3 or 4, it don't matter," Hart said. "I'll be able to help."
And, perhaps, prove himself to the Kings in a roundabout way.
"(The Kings) never found out if maybe he could've helped," Neff said. "We'll never know. Or I guess we will find out."
