Kings Name Mike Bratz Interim GM

The team has thrived and perished in the Petrie era. It's time to let go of the golden era of Kings basketball and start a new era.

I would see no problem in bringing in Petrie in an advisory role a la West. His knowleadge and experience would she very beneficial right about now.

The one reason I don't advocate the return of Petrie is his allergies to defenders and shot blockers. It's all offense and passing with Petrie. He would probably draft a Kaminsky in this draft if he were GM still.

He's only the interim.

I thought vlade was de facto GM anyway. I don't understand the structure at all. I assumed when Pete left vlade would just have GM tagged on the end of his ludicrously long title.

not much else they can do at this point. I doubt bratz even wants to be there honestly.

What a mess. At a pretty important time. I wonder how much info Pete has on our draft plans too that he can punch around the league. Gads.

Some passing wouldn't go a miss to be fair.

This is only until we get a replacement. I think we will probably get the golden state assistant GM (Travis Schlenk???). I think he got beaten to the job by PDA a couple of years ago. I was hoping that we shell out for a genuine capologist/CBA guru (eg Larry Coon) get someone like Petrie (or preferably someone brand new with similar experience) in as an adviser/consultant and we might finally be moving in the right direction.

Well in Voison's article today, she said Bratz was vocal about wanting Payton instead of Stauskas so Bratz just scored points with me. Still don't like the fact that PDA was brought in by PDA....guilt by association and stuff.

In Petrie's first draft as GM of the Kings he selected Brian Grant in the first round, Michael Smith in the 2nd round and Lawrence Funderburke in the 2nd round.

In his second draft he took Corliss Williamson in the first round and Tyus Edney in the second.

The rationale given for those first two drafts was that Petrie said the team needed to get tougher and more physical. That same year he traded Spud for Tyrone "tiny mustache" Corbin and Frank "no nickname needed" Brickowsky for Sarunas Marciulionis.

Next was Peja (who obviously didn't come over for year) and then the next offseason it was Olivier Saint Jean in an effort to get more athletic.

Geoff liked high IQ players who were multidimensional. And as a shooter himself he had a soft spot for them sure, but let's not distort things. He was smart enough to try and address team weaknesses. Sure, he didn't do enough to add defense during the golden years but those also weren't years where he had lottery picks or a ton of caproom.

I think people are letting the stink of Geoff's last few years color their perception of his entire tenure as the Kings GM.

Bratz has been a scout / talent judge for many years in the league. He worked in various scouting and coaching roles for Utah, Cleveland, Washington, Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Clippers. Until we made him an assistant GM, he'd never been more than a third guy in any front office. He was the 3rd guy in Denver behind Ujiri and PDA. With that resume, I have a hard time seeing him as a "great judge of talent." IMO, if he was a great eye for talent, his resume would look different.

A 59 year old career front office middle manger is our primary asset in determining the best course of action with our 6th pick. He's not deciding. He's just the most qualified person to give good advice and, to me, that's the problem.

On the flip side we have set the bar so low we can hardly do any worse.

All this handwringing about the front office should have been going on in previous years. Addition by subtraction I say. If the damn thing gets reduced to just Vlade sitting there all alone reading hand written notes written on post its by rent a scouts, we'll STILL be better off than we have been while riddled by megalomaniacal dipcraps.

I'm confused. Those sound like pretty good qualifications for promotion to me. You know, that thing called experience?

Bratz as GM? OK, he was pretty good in Bad Santa, but does anyone else have a major problem with making an actor our GM?

Where's his experience? If we wanted a fat drunk man in a santa suit as our GM, we could have just asked my dad.

No one else sees the resemblance then? Which one is Billy Bob and which one is Mike?
