Kings @ Lakers Game Thread

Beno is not our future point guard. He has energy bursts and can make a couple shots here and there but you do not turn the ball over and blame the closest team mate and you certainly do not go up and rush two ft's and hand the game over from the line.

We only lost by 9! I actually expected this to be 15+ so not bad....but considering that we COULD have been within 3 with 3 minutes to go (thanks alot Beno)...I'm deeply disappointed. :(

maaan Beno would be a good back up but he's just not a starting point guard
and why is Micky Moore still getting minutes in this team?

Yeah, im really impressed with our guys tonight, good effort. On the other hand im not going to sugar coat anymore. This was a big game and it showed we've learned absolutely nothing. We failed to come through in the last few minutes giving up several turnovers and missing two free throws in a row. Im not blaming it all on Beno, but that was definitely the KEY to our loss tonight.

Wow. Some of you really need to at least touch base with reality. The fact the Kings were even competitive is commendable. We saw our kids get decent minutes, we kept in the game to the end and the Lakers had to WORK for the win.

Calling Beno or any other player on the Kings names is just really out of character for Kings fans. If anything, Beno tried TOO hard to try and help the team win.

I'm personally proud that they did as well as they did. We beat the Lakers in Arco when pretty much no one on the planet gave us a chance. This game didn't really mean a thing as far as our future goes.

Again, we saw decent minutes for Thompson and Hawes. And I think we would have seen more for Brown had he not tweaked his ankle. Why not take solace from that? The Lakers aren't a scrub team. They're on a mission and they fought back hard on their home court.

To be fair Mikki was playing better than Hawes and Miller for a bit there. But I would have liked Hawes to replace Moore instead of JT at the end

On the bright side, Lakers fans didn't get tacos :D

Funny thing is, they were the LOUDEST at the very end when it was 10+, chanting DEFENSE and WE WANT TACOS when the game was basically over...what a bunch of bandwagon fans..only chanting when they want free tacos, not actually SUPPORTING the team.

Beno Udrih, 85% free throw shooter misses two critical ones near the end.
Then drains a meaningless three at the very end to insure screaming "WE WANT TACO'S" Lakers crowd won't get one:confused:
Get on the plane and get ready for Knicks tomorrow.

Oh Brown injured his ankle? Didn't know bout that. I think our problem is over dribbling towards the end. Both Salmons and Beno tried to create too much on the last few plays

I agree with mac.

JT gives us extra possessions on the boards, Mikki cant really do that. Although late game Moore was playing pretty well.

...Then again so was JT. Jeeze, it must be hard to be coach :p

Grant mentioned it two or three times. He said he came down on it wrong and commented at the time that he was limping up the court a bit, clearly favoring the ankle. A few minutes later, he commented again that Brown might not see more time because of the possible ankle problem. Then, when Brown did come back it, he tripped once and stumbled another time, IIRC, before he went back out for good.

Both JT/Moore were playing well when we made our comeback in the 4th, so I can't really blame Reggie for playing him at the end. We just had to play absolutely PERFECT at the end in able to steal it, and we didn't.

Yeah, im past blaming games on the on individual players now, even thoe i acknowledge that certain plays might have won it for us.. *COUGH* Beno *COUGH* Freethrows *COUGH*. That aside my concern is the fact that we don't seem to be learning anything concerning our late game meltdowns. This was a problem last year as well. I really don't know how to fix it. I do think Reggie has done a better job the last 2 games, but im not sure if this is a coaching issue or what, but whatever it is, it needs to be fixed.

Brown is still young. If he knows he isn't ready to go, he shouldn't force the occassion. Those two turnovers just really hurt his self-esteem. And honestly, at end of quarters, he isn't looking very good.

It will get fixed when our young bigs get better and we get a better point guard.

This wasn't a late game meltdown. This was a case where kids simply couldn't put away one of the best teams in the NBA.

Beno wasn't the only one who missed free throws. IIRC, Miller tanked a couple at least and there were a lot of wide open shots by almost every player that didn't go down.

We didn't win but we didn't quit. And again, Thompson and Hawes got significant minutes. Greene got a decent amount of quality time. That's going to pay dividends at some point in the future. Take my word for it. (Well, or don't...)

:)

Yeah, the laker crowd is pretty pathetic.

I bet a healthy Kevin Martin would have helped the Kings tonight...Way to play tough guys! Nice hustle and heart.

I know, im not blaming it completely on Beno. I'm just saying those specific free throws could have done the job. Yeah, Greene could be good some day. It wasn't a meltdown i guess, but we could have definitely made some better deciscions. Take the Lakers for example. In the last 2 minutes they were almost flawless as i recall. I just don't get why we can't do that.

Because they are a much better team than we are?

The WE WANT TACOS chant is just a silly thing...kinda like the "Kiss me" cam. ;)

I understand the history of it, but if it isn't an absolute blowout I think it's simply sad that they think some "silly" chant is more interesting than a basketball game. It's like when at a baseball game and they start breaking out beach balls.

I got to watch the lakers telecast (oh joy) did they mention anything about martins return on the kings telecast?
