Kings Ink Donald Sloan to 1 year deal

Heh, ok. While it seems to odd to me that we were in such a rush to lock up what sounds like a very marginal NBA guy without having seen anything of him in either our own summer league or training camp, I guess there's very little harm at those prices. So...welcome Donald. Pick out a backpack to carry around and try not to suck. :p

That was real classy of him /s

With 2 seconds left he does this? Ughhhhh.. that's not the type of player I want here unless he does it ONLY to the Lakers.

He's a marginal NBA talent at best.. VERY undersized SG. Next to no PG skills so I wouldn't even consider him a combo guard.

Here's your boy sucking complete *** (and I'm talking bricks, turnovers, bad defense and chucking) in the final six minutes of what looks like a huge game. Every player in the nba can dunk.

Riiiiiight. 3 things: This is from 2008, he only took 2 shots in this clip and one was halfway in the basket, A&M won the game.

You all are judging this dude based on a short YouTube video. He's actually an impressive scorer. He's quick and can get to the rim, I'm not 100% sure we need another scorer but this guy can really create his own shot. he's pretty big too for his size and could potentially be a tyreke-light

Well so far the Kings have him playing the point. which he didn't do much of in college. I haven't done much research on him, so maybe he played point in highschool. He handles the ball OK, and he can get to the basket. At the point position he has good size, but at the SG position he would be undersized. As far as the Kings needing another scorer, well the team that puts the ball through the hoop the most usually wins the game. So you can't have too many scorers. Hopefully they can do something else besides score.

From what I can tell from reading Jason Jones blurbs on twitter, and blogs that he's written about the people at summer league, what the kings like about him is he pushes the ball up the court, keeps the tempo high.

The Kings have talked about wanting to do this more, and Tyreke nor Beno does this very often. Tyreke is a great talent, but he brings the ball up lazily a lot of times, which forces you into a Spurs style half court game.....except we aren't he Spurs.

So, they want to increase the tempo and push the ball up the floor....this guy does that.

Wiht halfcourt options like Reke, Cousins and Landry, we're getting closer to the Spurs in the ability to play that game. But Westphal has always been an uptempo coach, so hard to see him wanting to even if we have the personnel for it.

I think he would like the option of being able to do both. Not to mention, it is nice to have a change of pace guard coming off the bench. BJax used to do that so well coming off hte bench for Bibby. I also think that the addition of Cousins will help the Kings' transition game as he is a very good outlet passer. That is something the Kings haven't really had down low since Webber and Vlade left. Never felt it was a big strength of Miller, and Hawes didn't rebound enough for us to ever find out.

So, in a way, Petrie got 3 players he wanted out of the draft with 2 picks?!

Yeah, they got the guy they would have taken at #1 or #2 with the #5, a guy they would have taken in the teens or maybe lower lottery with a 2nd rounder, and a guy they would have taken in the 2nd without using a pick. If their evaluations don't pan out, they sure can't complain about their luck.

I think there is a good chance he will be dropped by the end of the preseason. He is just not producing, and seems a little out of control. Anyone else have that opinion?

Right now, he isn't showing anything exceptional. He looks like just another SL guard trying to get his. Downey's ability to set up others while still playing the drive game is what is missing from Sloan right now. Sloan needs to cut down the turnovers and survey his options off the pick.
