How much did we play with three guards? Does anyone know?
Quite a bit. IT played 36 mins and Reke+Thornton played 42+ each. I imagine most of that was playing together
Duh! Picture facepalm. Considering that, I'm surprised the loss wasn't worse although perhaps the Heat weren't working too hard. I know Thornton played 24 minutes in the first half.
Whiteside block shot. Justin Williams v.2. give this man some minutes!!!!
I hate it as well. If Smart got creative, he could get all three guys 30+ mins from the 2 guard spots very easily+ maybe 5-6 mins of a 3 guard lineup. Playing it the whole game is recipe for disaster on defense as we've seen the past 3 games

Smart has slowly weaned off the PT for most of the off-season moves. I don't have much a problem with any of that, but it is pretty telling of how much the FO screwed the pooch. Donte getting PF minutes over Hickson. Salmons out of the starting lineup. Hayes playing a limited role and Jimmer a situational shooter.

I'm willing to look past the moves because they at the time made sense for our current team construction. NO ONE thought Salmons/Hickson/Hayes/Jimmer would be this bad and unfortunately, they make up most of our core role players.

A few did. But were killed for thinking it. I don't think the moves made sense at all. I do think however Jimmer will be fine. Not worried about him.

The FO can "fix" a lot of these problems with the right kind of guys and THAT is what keeps me interested. I just hope they don't do what they did last summer.
Acquiring a 22 year old 14-8 big for Casspi (just as ****ty) and a protected 1st rounder was not a bad move (at the time). Bringing in a high b-ball IQ, defensive leader in Chuck Hayes was not a bad move (and still isn't) Resigning a scorer like Thornton on a nice contract was not a bad move. Salmons is and was always a stupid deal.
Anyway, the point is in theory, we brought in a lot more talent than we're getting production from. Salmons/Hayes/Hickson were all major contributors to their respective clubs last year and have regressed in a big way. You simply can't put that all on the FO
7.7 PPG 3.5 rebounds 1.3 assists on 40% FG%, 29% 3pt % 59% FT%.
The trade is pretty much a wash at this point
Not necessarily. Hickson we lost Casspi and our first rounder either this year or next year(most likely next year) so those were valuable assets, Salmons we will have to amnesty to get rid of(even then we may not be able to spend the extra money because do the Maloofs really have an extra 7 mill to spend every year?), Hayes move was alright, and I still think Jimmer will turn out to be a good player for us. But Casspi was atleast an asset, and to be honest the Casspi/Donte platoon we had at the 3 the last few years was better than the Donte/Salmons/Outlaw/Cisco group we have now. Outlaw was anothe waste of money, the 3 mill could've been better spent elsewhere and we are stuck with him the next 4 years I think. The moves we made for the most part were a big disaster.
JJ sucks. Who cares about his numbers. If you scouted him as an organization you'd know he sucks. Adding a pick to that was ludicrous. Hayes was an ok signing. The problem is though it should have been in addition to resigning Daly or getting another big. But losing Daly, only singing Hayes and then hearing both Westy and Petrie say we don't need to add anything more to our frontcourt is and was a huge mistake. A few said that all along, and guess how its turned out.Acquiring a 22 year old 14-8 big for Casspi (just as ****ty) and a protected 1st rounder was not a bad move (at the time). So you're blaming it on coaching or what? Because if you are, we could've gotten a better coach and we chose to stick with Westphal with the foresight to acquire Smart because PW MIGHT get fired later on, effectively making him a lameduck coach. That's on the FO too. Westphal's system wasn't much of a system, so the few high bball IQ guys we did have(like Beno) were real valuable on offense.
