Kings Have Signed John Salmons - Bye, Bye Bonzi!!

So basically you think Petrie is done for the year, captain bill? Honestly?

Sorry, but I think there's more going on. Petrie himself, in a highly unusual telling comment, said MORE TRADES could be coming.

Let's just wait and let the dust settle a little before we decide Petrie messed up.

:)

Okay, this is just wrong. Salmons is not Bonzi's replacement, Martin is. Step back for a second. Bonzi's gone. We are left with this:
Bibby/Hart/Douby/Price
Martin/Douby
Artest/Garcia/Corliss
SAR/Thomas
Brad/Pot
+rooks from summer

When it becomes clear that Bonzi is walking you assess your current situation. Backup SG is not a pressing need. We have some guys to fill the minutes, and Salmons is not a clear upgrade over any of them. You don't spend money for the sake of spending money- you spend it to get better. I would estimate that 80-90% of fans would look at this and say, get a backup center. Maybe that's the SL guys. But even so, I would give the MLE to just about anyone who can play center (with defense) before I gave it to Salmons. If Martin wasn't here it would be defensible- a gaping hole at a position means you just try to fill it. That is not the case here. The reason the Loofs didn't pony up everything Bonzi wanted is because we're not left with a hole- we're left with a promising young player who could make a real impact as a starter. First priority in many minds was signing Bonzi. 2nd, if that fell through, was taking new financial freedom and doing everything possible to get a center. Petrie screwed this up, plain and simple. Defend Salmons all you want, he doesn't help us. That money could better be spent elsewhere.
Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!

Here is current roster as of 5:00pm ALL 17 of them!!!!
1 22 Louis Amundson F 6-9
2 93 Ron Artest F/G 6-7
3 8 Quincy Douby G 6-3
4 32 Francisco Garcia G/F 6-7
5 44 Eugene “Pooh” Jeter G 5-11
6 23 Kevin Martin G 6-7
7 7 Ronnie Price G 6-2
8 40 Justin Williams C 6-10
9 3 Shareef Abudur-Rahim F 6-9
10 10 Mike Bibby G 6-2
11 32 Francisco Garcia F 6-7
12 5 Jason Hart G 6-3
13 52 Brad Miller C 7-0
14 20 Vitaly Potapenko C 6-10
15 7 Ronnie Price G 6-3
16 9 Kenny Thomas F 6-7
17 34 Corliss Willaimson F 6-6

The CBA only allows a max of 15. And this does not include camp invitees. Starters in bold

I notice that SAR is starting and not KT. That is a good sign if nothing else.

I agree with captain bill-

A SG/SF is not whats allowing other teams to penetrate our paint like its the cool thing to do.

All of the wrong issues are being addressed in this transaction.

Unless of course, Salmons is getting moved / Garcia is getting moved etc etc.

People are reactionary, I am no exception. Until i have justification otherwise, i will be against this signing.

In accordance to that, i am STILL against the Webber trade, and until i have justification otherwise (Our OOOO SO MOVABLE parts), i will be against it. If we trade Corliss Potatothomas for KG, then i will renig what i said and confess to my inaccuracy.

Otherwise

This signing sucks

Reality check, Bonzi hasn't been a "malcontent" since 2003. Or 2005, based on your view of the bull**** with Fratello that was mostly Fratello's doing. Just ask Bobby Jackson.

Let's see. Being unhappy and requesting a trade for 2 out of the 3 teams you've played for doesn't make you a malcontent.

Well he better be looking to trade Garcia or the guy he just signed then. Because locking up that money on Salmons only hurts any moves he could make going foward otherwise.

Geez, calm down. First of all, I'm not defending Salmons, but losing Bonzi opens up a need at a backup 2/3. Douby is too small to play the 2, he's a PG. Garcia will fill it primarily but if he is injured or if the matchup is not right or heck, maybe Garcia won't improve like we hope, there's a need for someone else to fill that role. So to say that we don't need someone like Salmons isn't right. Time will tell if he's the right person for that role, but we need SOMEONE in that role.

This doesn't preclude getting a center either through trade or free agency. And the fact is that there really isn't that good of a center available anyway, so we'll probably be able to get one for the LLE.

Probably not and I genuinely hope not, but Petrie's track record suggests that the key issues won't be addressed. From what's said here, he stated on the radio that rebounding will address itself over the year. He does not seem overly concerned about it. I've always tried to be a voice of reason, but this move is undefensible unless, big unless, Garcia, Douby or Martin gets moved out as part of a bigger trade, which would be unfortunate. But as I've already said, the move as it stands just makes no sense whether anything more is done or not. Salmons may well be a good player, but that doesn't mean we should get him. If this is made for a set move in the future, okay. But, as it stands, this is a personnel move and just that.

Not even asterisks are enough. I think I need to go punch a hole through a tree.

I personally am sick and tired of people who do not know anything about basketball getting mad. look this guys is a quality player who can play all 3 positions and i feel he will become a very solid player in sacramento. all these people are bashing this guy and he hasn't even put on a kings uniform yet. he is a solid ball handler and will do good.

secondly let me guess... you think the kings should have resigned bonzi?!? well let me tell you the kings should NOT have resigned bonzi. do you really want a player at the age of 33 or 34 sitting at the end of the bench soaking up 8-10 million of the teams salary??? i dont. and dont even try to say "bonzi is a great player". He was a great player this season because it was his CONTRACT YEAR.. hello! putting up career numbers in a contract year. not a
coincidence. hes not going to put up the same numbers as he did last year. lets face it. kevin is ready to start and if we would've signed bonzi he would have begun breaking down over the next few years. bonzi is a player who plays off pure strength and as he gets older, just like every player his skills will begin declining. bonzi is not a player who can make up for his age in other categories such as being a good shooter. he can not dribble or shoot. the kings offered him his worth, and him and his agent did not feel that was enough.
consequently he will most likely be making less money next season.

GOOD MOVE PETRIE. I WISH THE FANS OF SACRAMENTO WOULD GIVE THIS GUY A CHANCE!

Salmons better hustle on the court, we paid him enough to do that at least. Attitude is not going to fly with Muss or Ron for that matter.

I personally am not bashing the player, I think you are misunderstanding my stand. He could be the best SG available for all i care, he could be the next friggen MJ. MY point is it adressed NOT A THING about our defensive and rebounding woes, but whatever, im getting fed up, time for some dinner.

I know more about basketball than you do.

i don't get where this logic is coming from. i don't think anyone has a problem with salmons, everyone has a problem with the money he's being given. it's almost as much as SAR for a guy who hasn't come anywhere near SAR's production.

letting bonzi go because we didn't want to throw money at him was one thing (which most people here can accept i think). letting him go and getting nothing back makes us angry. letting him go and then getting nothing back and then signing for something we don't need... whole 'nother story.

his stats are damn close to career ones:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3254/career;_ylt=Au0nXS6xzweOE0f.2qH85MOkvLYF

bear in mind his loss of minutes in Memphis and your argument absolutely does not hold water. Also, 33 or 34 year old guys do not decline all that quickly. Shaq and Zo helped win a ring, despite declining they can still contribute, even against young centers that, the theory would, decline faster. Also, your position means that we shouldn't keep either Ron or Mike since they'll both be close to Bonzi's age when their contracts are up.
ps the reigning 2x mvp is 2 years older than bonzi, garnett and duncan are roughly the same age (and god save us if we got those 2) and sam cassell, by your estimation, is dead.

i could go through other productive older players, but i think you get the point. also, what good, contributing players fell off at 32 or 33 (and not due to injury, which is a risk at any age)?

Because NBA rules state that we can't make any more moves in the offseason

Yeah, but we don't actually know how much money he's getting, just that it's some part of the MLE. Right? Or did I miss that?

Bonzi you should be ashamed. Look what you have started. We all hate eachother, and, Salmons has become the anti-christ. Seriously, thanks BW you were a joy to watch in the Kings uni and a much needed spark. You will be missed.

well, when we make that trade then check up to see what the reaction is. till then, what's the big deal about feeling the way we feel? you're really willing to bet everything that another move is going down?

btw, that supposed trade is right in line after "the trade we'll make after getting ostertag" and "the trade we'll make after getting the philly trio/flexible pieces." (forgot, we got monia and potapenko for part of that, huzzah!) right alongside "the sign & trade we'll get for cuttino mobley" and "the sign & trade we'll get for bonzi." next to "we'll let vlade walk for nothing." forgive me if i'm not exactly high on geoff's dealings this particular offseason.
