Kings have a bright future.

Hawes draws double teams in college...yet in the NBA can be bodied up by a two above average strength. He will NOT warrant a double team by any means...

There is no future for this team with this roster and salary restrictions.

I cant name 6 teams in a worse situation then the Kings right now. Im not too sure about a bright future.

This is too true, but we have a great chance to be 1 through 3 next year, and maybe we can grab Mayo. I don't think any team that was a lottery pick did worse than us :(

How can you say the without seeing one of them ever step on the court? If Yi decideds to stay in China did we do better than the Bucks? It seems silly to make statements like that without seeing a minute of actual basketball.

you dont think we would have made the playoffs if we gave Wallace 25 minutes a game? We would have been a much better team if we had. We also wouldnt have put him into the supp draft for the Bobcats to steal from us.

Oh my. Who's minutes were you going to take? Wallace, at best, looked lost at times. You don't give minutes to a kid like that when you're thinking championship. Kids don't unseat the vets on a team unless they really have things together. At the time, Wallace did not.

ohhhh yeah, here is our center to trigger the "run and gun" style of play.. mr. theuss was talking about. the future is bleak unless we make some more moves. i'm pissed off that we selected this guy and look like we're keeping him on the roster. if you call the future bright w/ a collection of late 1st round picks and undrafted rookies.. might want to take another look. ;)
This is my MAJOR beef with people. They don't hear what is actually said but rather hear what they WANT to be said!

Theus NEVER said we will be run and gun team. He said we will be uptempo team. Two DIFFERENT styles. Run and gun is what Phoexin do. Up tempo is what we did in our "golden years". We were a high octane offence back in those years and guess what?! We had a slow plodder playing center back then and he was integral part of that team.

I just wish people would actually listen to whats said than just go off half cocked and talk about what they thought they heard.

Theus even made this point clear in the press conference today. We won't be a run and gun team. We will be an up tempo team and there is a big difference. Hawes will fit well into what Theus has in mind.

You don't seem to be the only one thinking that, I just ran across this observation of the lottery:

5:32: Looking disturbingly like Chris Mihm, Spencer Hawes goes 10th to the Kings. Now they have a young center who can't rebound or protect the rim, an aging center (Brad Miller) who can't rebound or protect the rim, a guy who started the biggest melee in NBA history (Ron Artest), the coach from "Hang Time" (Reggie Theus), tons of bad contracts, and owners (the Maloofs) who've made more reality-TV-show appearances than every other NBA owner combined. What a mess. O.J. Mayo should just buy a house in Sacramento now and get it over with.

Ok...I've mentioned many times that the Sports Guy can be a shaky analyst, but that was a hilarious writeup. :D

Glass half empty type of guy are ya...just 14 months ago things looked VERY promising. It's amazing how fastly a team can REBOUND(a la Houston/Utah) or Drop like a rock(Memphis/Sacramento).

Success is very volatile in the NBA, I think things are better than you admit.

I'm glad we're not Atlanta, Minnesota, Boston, Lakers, Clippers, Warriors, basically ANY eastern conference team.

Fourteen months ago things did NOT look very promising. They looked as though unless the Kings found a way to get some new blood, resurgence of energy and passion and even a pinch of luck, that things were going to get worse before they got better.

Sorry, dude. I'll try and be as optimistic as anyone but not by utilizing revisionist history.

Oh on a seperate subject. Anyone listen to Carmichael Dave last night?

He brought up an interesting question...

Can you come up with any team in the NBA w/ a worst situation/lineup than the Kings? I really can't think of any right now. Our cap space sucks, our lineup is full of major holes.

Folks... We are in for about a 5-7 year rebuild here.

Three words for you...The Minnesota Timberwolves :)

And yet, they have probably the most sought after trade bait in the league in years, even if he is aging. We have a bunch of unathletic huge contracts that few teams are willing to take a chance on.

Bait is just dead worms until a fish bites.

;)

They also have an extremely talented, athletic and hard working young defender in Brewer. Depending on what they do with KG, they could be a whole new team a month from now. Unless Yi Jianlian refuses to sign with Milwaukee, I don't think we have much competition.

Well, you hope that your worm has enough life left in it to attract some attention before it croaks. Whether KG is such a worm remains to be seen, but at least he hasn't been at the bottom of the lake for months already. I imagine we'll have an answer within a few weeks.

I think there are quite a few Eastern conference teams that are in worse shape than us. I would much rather be Minnesota than us right now... I think Foye and Brewer are probably comperable young talent to Kevin and Cicsco and both teams are loaded with bad contracts after a couple young guys... The wolves have an aging superstar who is exceedingly tradeable to reload with though, while the Knigs have guys who are probably going to be very difficult to trade.

That being said a day later I'm feeling a smidge better about the pick.. I don't think he really fits the team or addresses a need, but Geoff has always been adamant about drafting the best player available and Hawes was the best player available on almost every draft rankings site I saw. So I will begrudgingly begin rooting for Miller Lite, with the hope that he turns into Miller Genuine Draft (the guy Brad was supposed to be when we signed him to the rediculous contract)

If Dallas has a 2 headed monster that defends fouls and blocks shots at center in Desageric Diopier we now have that two headed monsters exact opposite in a two headed center that is smart, can pass, scores well, but doesnt rebound, defend or block shots... Hey it could work with the right supporting cast... I think I will call him Sprad Millawes
