Kings fall in NBA power ranking

In the Sept 15 NBA power rankings the Kings are shown as 8th in an article by Jeff Dengate.

"The Kings look strong on paper. But that's not where games are played. The main question is: Can Abdur-Rahim or Wells display the unselfishness customary of this team?"

Seems a bit of a knock based on SAR and Bonzi reputations on weaker teams. But that also means they won't be favored as much and if they do mesh should push to high 50's in W's.

WTF???

Can someone explain to me why they even have power rankings a month before training camp opens??? Who really cares

What pilot said. That's not as ridiculous as the nfl power rankings on cbs.sportsline.com cause those had the niners at 26 and teams that got destroyed were ahead. The only rankings I will listen to from now on will be the ones "I" create.
Anyways, I'm off to class. Peace.

the niners should be at 26th. its the first game of the season.

First game of the season, but its also a win. Aren't sports about winning?

Yes, but power ranking aren't about winning. Power rankings are about ranking teams based on who they "should" win against.

My point in this was that a lot of pundits think the Kings, on paper at least, and at this point in time, are not better than 7 other teams. Nothing significant will change in the next few weeks to alter this. But it is curious how much the writers like what the kings did to improve yet put them a bunch lower than last year.

A bunch = maybe 3-4 spots, and that was compared to the START of last season when we still ahd the aging remnants of a proven elite team. The "writers", to whatever degree they can even find their asses with both hands, are more impressed with how far we've come from the END of last season, when we were probably barely hanging onto a Top 10 spot, if that.

This isn't college football where they hand out titles for rankings. Jeff Dengate is also asking the wrong question. The last thing I'm concerned about is if SAR and Wells are unselfish enough for the Kings system. The Kings offense has been at or near the top since Adleman took over the team and it will be again this year. The question has been and will always be can they defend and rebound well enough.

I think it is fair. I mean, we probably should be behind behind San Antonio, Detroit, Miami, Phoenix, and Indiana (now that Artest is back). And I see the arguments for Houston and Denver, even though I would put us higher than them.
But, as several of you have said, who cares? It's meaningless.

wait, they put us behind denver? what the hell is making critics this offseason tout denver as such a good team? their the same team they were last year! and last year they were very mediocre at best

Um...perhaps you missed that 25-4 run to finish their season last year? They had the best record in the league post All-Star break after the coaching change.

Yeah, Nuggets should be really good this year... would love to see Hodge work his way up from pre-season into the #1 or #2 back-up spot at SG.

The nugz were insane last year. Had it not been for stupid young mistakes they could've almost taken out the spurs. To say the nugz were mediocre at best is a very dumb thing to say. I did not wanna face them last year. They would've swept us.

yep...same team as last year. exactly the point (mediocre? lol.)

Season hasn't even started yet, but I guess these guys have to fill their columns with something. Even something useless I suppose.

It's funny how we need the Nuggets rebounding, shot blocking and slashing and they need our shooting, passing and playmaking. We should join forces and destroy the rest of the league. Still TDOS.....

:D, what do you think the chances (on a paper) are now?

Okay, NugzFan, looks like TDOS has finally gotten to ya. :p

the nuggets are a young team, but most of them are as good as their gonna get; like camby and martin, nene, boykins, najera.....

this is the same team that had NO late season problems last year, finished the season with the best record in the league after the all-star break and still got used, folded and flushed down the toilet by the spurs.

Personally? I would much rather see the Kings start out lower in the power rankings. That way, should they stumble a bit coming out of the gate, we won't have people lining up along Pioneer Bridge to jump off.

The only team that got used, folded, and flushed down the toilet was the kings. I don't know if u remember, but the nugz won game one against the spurs and every other game was extremely competitive. Don't make comments like that unless u got ur stories straight.
