SACRAMENTO, CA ---- The Sacramento Kings exercised the team option on forward Carl Landry's contract for the 2010-11 season, as announced today by Kings' President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.

Landry was acquired midseason by the Kings via trade and averaged 18.0 ppg (.520 FG, .741 FT%) and 6.5 rpg in 28 games (all starts) for Sacramento.

Hmm this is interesting. What if the Kings get a high draft pick and get one of the promising PF's? Then we have Landry/Thomspon/Draft Pick?? JT is going into his 3rd season. If his basketball IQ doesn't go up, and he doesn't really raise his level of play and we get a young stud PF JT may find himself on the outside looking in without an extension.

We'll just have even more depth at the 4/5 spot.

And I just realized that the team option was for 10/11 not 11/12. Thought there was another year on that contract. Well then all things are equal after next season.

That didn't take long! Of course, it was a no-brainer so there wasn't any reason to delay.

Though we did need to do it before signing a free agent. Oddly enough it "increases" our cap room because Landry's contract value is less than his cap hold was.

IDK why, but i think that JT is gonna blow up and have a career year next season. the time for him to come into his own is NOW. especially playing at the Center position

3 million is very cheap for a guy that produces this much. Also he's a work horse so hopefully that'll keep rubbing off the current players and the PF or C rookie that's gonna come in

Landry

Obviously Landry doesn't mind coming off the bench as a 6th man. He proved that in Houston. If we do draft a PF and JT starts at PF then we should have no problems rotating our talent. We will end up with plenty of depth. BTW, Im stoked we signed Landry. He plays the game hard every night and is the type of player that the Kings could use now and in the near future.

I really, really like Landry, and this option is a no-brainer, but I hope we make something happen where we can send him back to the bench. Give him his 28-34 minutes a night in a sixth man role, let him compete against the other team's reserve big men, and he's fine. But he's a deficient rebounder and can't pass out of the double team, and those two things practically negate his offensive prowess, which is his biggest asset. Especially on a team that lacks rebounding and interior presence.

if anybody goes, i think hawes may be the odd man out. hes been injured and has some history w/ his knees. JT can play a little 5 not full time tho.

When the day comes that Landry is coming off the bench.. the Kings are going to be quite a good and relevant team.

I sure hope so. He was doing a decent job at the 5 when he played. Not amazing, but I hope that he does have a breakout season.

Good move. Landry can certainly improve his play back to the Houston levels, and a full summer of work/training camp may help make him the uber efficient offensive machine that he once was. We'll have to use next season to determine what kind of contract he deserves, but we have to be careful not to pay him anything above midlevel--undersized bigs with only one trick (in Landry's case, high efficiency scoring) tend to stagnate early on, and as Landry hits his 30s he might be in for a decline.
