KINGS EXERCISE OPTIONS AND EXTEND CONTRACTS OF ASSISTANT COACHES THROUGH 2005-2006 SEASON

February 11, 2005

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento Kings today exercised the options on the contracts of Kings Assistant Coaches Elston Turner and T.R. Dunn and extended the contracts of Assistant Coaches Pete Carril and Bubba Burrage through 2005-06, according to President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.

Turner is in his fifth season as an assistant coach with the Kings, and his first as Head Coach Rick Adelman's lead assistant. T.R. Dunn is in his first season as an assistant coach on the Kings' staff after two seasons with the Denver Nuggets as an assistant coach.

Carril is in his eighth season as an assistant coach, and ninth overall with the Kings. Burrage is in his second season as an assistant coach and fifth as the Kings' primary advance NBA scout.

On February 1, the Kings and the Maloof Family exercised the option on Adelman's contract for the 2005-06 season. Adelman became the head coach of the Kings on September 17, 1998. Beginning with the 1998-99 campaign, the Kings have posted a winning record and advanced to the NBA Playoffs in each of the six seasons under Adelman, the winningest coach in franchise history.

SEATTLE - The Kings exercised the options Thursday on the contracts of assistant coaches Elston Turner and T.R. Dunn and extended the contracts of assistant coaches Pete Carril and Bubba Burrage through 2005-06, the team announced. The team exercised the final year of coach Rick Adelman's contract Feb. 1.

Fines and suspensions - Brad Miller's one-game suspension and the fining of Cuttino Mobley, Chris Webber and Mike Bibby did not raise much surprise in the Kings' locker room.

Matt Barnes said he hoped relations between the Kings and officials will improve.

"That's how it usually goes," Barnes said of the fines and suspensions. "Hopefully, it made a statement as far as the (officials) need to look at how they are treating our team as a whole. They are doing their job the best they can, I'm sure, so we need to focus on going out there and playing ball."

Webber, who was fined $10,000 for kicking the ball into the stands, joked that he had about a 42-yard punt when asked about the kick.

"It was after the game," he said. "I didn't think I deserved a fine, but I'm not going to argue it."

Bibby said he didn't believe he should be fined and did not remember verbally abusing an official or failing to leave the court in a timely manner.

No All-Star Game, no big deal - Webber said he was not surprised about failing to be voted onto the Western Conference All-Star squad by coaches.

"I think even the people who say they were surprised really aren't surprised, because, you know, it's me," he said.

There had been talk about Seattle's Rashard Lewis not being deserving, but Webber said he has been a Lewis fan since his rookie season and told him then he should become an All-Star one day.

"I don't take it personally against any person on the (All-Star) team because everybody should have made it," Webber said. " ... People who point out Rashard, that's ridiculous."

webber's comments actually maed me a bit sad

if your talking about Lewis not being an all star, you are clearly wrong! the boy been averaging 15+ ppg for 3-4 years straight and no one knows about him til now! he deserves to be there.

I think the reference was to Webber's quote, "because, you know, it's me".

Just because someone is a very good player doesn't mean they deserve to be an all-star. If you could explain to me how Lewis deserves to be an all-star more than Webber this year I'd love to hear it. If you cannot, then who should have been left off to let Webber and Lewis in?

And dozens of NBA players average 15+ ppg for 3-4 years, only a few of them are all-stars.
