[KINGS] Comments that don't warrant their own thread (Redux)

You really watch the games and don't see him as a black hole on offense? I guess we watch different games, we can agree to disagree on that.

I mean its being reported by local and national media. All of Kings media from DLO/KC, Ham, Dave were saying it was a forgone conclusion he was gone as soon as Perry was hired. Then suddenly a month later, "dont be surprised if he isn't moved, the market just isn't there".

Pretty clear to me nobody wants him.

I watch DeRozan and see a bucket. How many players in the league put up at least 22ppg on 48% FG? The Kings as a team were the 7th rated offense and DeRozan was the leading scorer and go to guy. Offense isn’t the problem, the team needs multiple plus defenders to go with no more than 2 ball dominant guys on the court at once.

The thing about these media guys is they have to talk about the Kings for hours every day. They have to create narratives that may or may not be true. Perry said he just flew out to meet with DeRozan and that he’s committed. Now that may all be smoke, but I’ll take Perry’s word over the local/national media.

Ok full disclosure: when I was talking about us getting a better return for Deebo than Fox, that was just me ****ing on the Fox trade. I think my expectations are pretty realistic.

Deebo will probably get us a 2nd and a mid youngster if we're lucky, but that's fine, it's really about clearing minutes for the kids/sending a classy vet off to ring chase.

Man get Derozan out of here even if he was 30

It's a good lesson that skipping steps doesn't last. They gave it a go around Fox, it was a long shot, and it wasn't sustainable. Simple as that. The Kings built the exact type of team for the times but they didn't realize they were at the tail end of those times and caught in a league wide shift away from skill/shooting to defense and playmaking depth.

the league never shifted away from defense, all the former champions had it when it counted the most. whether acquiring multiple guard defenders in the sense of OKC or versatile 3/4 forwards there is no one formula and it's always the teams that copy others that don't get anywhere. if you want to be a winner, be a trend setter not a follower.

Kings pull their 2 way offer to Isaiah Crawford making him a free agent. Cardwell and I Stevens hold the other 2 slots
Doesn't really matter, but why? Unless they plan on offering it to someone else. He plays a position of need, and is a good defender. Cost is virtually nothing, can be used as a filler, and if ever a roster spot is needed, can be waived. Would have cost Vivek some pocket change, but why not let him get some reps in Stockton?

True but it kind of did in this "Warriors" era in terms of roster build. The Nuggets were the culmination of that. I think in the last ten years there have been 3-4 champs rated outside of the top 10 in defensive rating. Prior to that the only team in the last 40+ years outside were the Lakers in 2001 who were rated 21st in defensive rating. The last two champs have been elite on defense especially at the guard position.

absolutely. two seasons isn't enough of a factor to copy trends but it will be interesting to see who's the next team and GM to make a roster to take OKC down

Let's be clear, the Fox package was 3 1sts + 5 2nds + Tre Jones expiring + Zach Collins (expires this year)
Us then trading #12 + those contracts for LaVine was the doodoo.
Then wasting 3 of the 2nds on a LaRavia rental and JVal (Saric) compounded the crap.

I think every single person would prefer us going into this year with

Schroder/Monk
Keon/Carter/Huerter
Essengue or Carter Byant/Demar/Nique
Keegan/Jones
Sabonis/Maxime/Collins

This would have actually been a competent team. We would have young talent to develop. Expirings of Huerter/Collins and semi expiring for Demar coming off the books next year to go along with another top 10 pick. Dump Monk somewhere. And next year it could have been -

Top 10 pick/Schroder
Keon/Carter
Bryant/Nique
Keegan/Jones
Sabonis/Maxime

But Monte ****ed the team badly at the deadline.
Had we not traded for LaVine we would have had space to sign one of the restricted free agent forwards to an offer sheet of some sort.

Schroder/Monk/ Carter
Keon/ DeMar / Nique
Keegan/ Essengue or Carter Byant
Kuminga /Jones
Sabonis/Maxime/Collins

Every player San Antonio was offering is on as bad or worse contract than LaVine.

Also we probably don't have Nique in this scenario (used 2027 SA draft pick to acquire his rights) unless we kept our own pick and used it on him, so no Noa Essengue/Carter Bryant.

Don't love LaVine but he'll be off the books before Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell would be.

Which Spurs were expiring again that would have freed up the money? What would the trade have been then to free up 20+mil in cap space this off-season?

So three players went to Chicago

Zach Collins. 18M this year
Kevin Huerter. 18M this year
Tre Jones. Retired.

We got
LaVine. 47.4

That to me is an 11M delta that puts us just above the cap and I think we could use the full mid level exception.

If we wanted to send Huerter out as well lord knows what we'd have to take back. Zach Collins and Kevin wash out, so again we are taking back Vassell and other garbage. Or we just ride the season out and who knows what happens if Fox gets hurt this offseason while we try to work a deal for a player nobody really seemed to want after he demanded SA or bust. Fox and SA bent us over a barrel.

Right or we just keep Huerter and take Chicago out of the deal. Clearly San Antonio could make it work sending whom they did.

The LaVine part was the worst part of that deal

Yeah and if we were sitting on Devin Vassell right now...

I am not defending the deal except to say I am pretty sure the other options were even worse.

Again why are you saying sitting on Vassell. All I said was unwind the Chicago part.

I’m not comparing other options. If we could take back Lavine. Keeping Huerter and not LaVine was less expensive. It is the fact we added LaVine at a price he is unmovable that tied our hands.

Because who are we taking back in a Fox deal? Zach Collins, Keldon Johnson and Tre Jones? May as well just fold the franchise.

Ultimately you get the first we sent out and cap space in a time no one else had any.

Chicago’s pick 12
And whom you sign in free agency.

A line up of

Schroeder, Monk, Carter
Ellis, Clifford/Huerter
Murray, Deebo, Essengue
Kuminga, Jones, Raynaud
Sabonis, Saric, Collins.

Looks a whole heck a lot better than our current line-up.

So we're trading Fox for late lottery picks and cap space. The deal we got sucked but I'm sorry that's unacceptable particularly knowing what cap space has gotten us in the past. Maybe we have cap space, offer 25 million to Kuminga and Dubs match it. Then what?
