[KINGS] Comments that don't warrant their own thread (Redux)

Watched Carter Bryant play wing defense for the Spurs who was available with the pick we sent Atlanta. That kid is Davion level defense. 6’ 11” wingspan. 8’ 10 standing reach. Stays in front of point guards. Dude can’t shoot but man if he can as he has a nice stroke at the line.

So glad Monte is gone.

I mean, you just said the fix. DDR or Monk to the bench, but we were too interested in protecting egos over winning games.
Protecting egos is part of managing an NBA team.

I think we underestimate the challenge a coach faces in moving veteran players, still playing at a high level for an undrafted player still on his rookie contract. That too, an interim coach on his first HC gig, for a franchise that's been a joke for over a decade and a half. Most of these players have been alphas their whole life. That belief in themselves is partly the reason they are playing in the NBA. Plus, it's not as if their performance fell off a cliff. They are both healthy, and playing at a high level. If the pieces don't fit, that's on the GM. It's easy to say that the coach should put the team on the floor that has the best chance of winning, but that's not possible with managing players and their egos.

Lastly, I don't want to throw DDR/Lavine/Monk under the bus. I have no idea if they ever gave any indications to Doug that they would be unhappy if Ellis was promoted over them. It would be a pretty natural reaction though, and not an easy decision for any coach, let alone a rookie.

Protecting the ego of a role player and a 35 year old non star is comedy… Derozan reportedly told Mike Brown no days before he was fired

Interestingly, both Keon and Keegan have not got a contract extension yet. Good teams would have already done it.

Embarrassing part is both should’ve been done instantly but of course Perry said journeyman Schröder was top priority

The "35 years old non star" is a 6 time All Star, 3 time All NBA, was in reasonably serious discussion for MVP few seasons ago, still playing at a high level, and earning 23 M. Guys like him expect and receive respect around the league. Teams paying such money don't get these players to play backup, particularly for an undrafted player on a rookie contract. Can happen if the performance falls off a cliff, or if the organization/coach has lot of respect around the league. A Phil Jackson/Pop/Riley can do it. Impossible for a rookie coach for the Kangz.

Any S&T deal will hard cap us at the first apron so the order of operations is important. Both share an agent with Schröder so let's not get too worried about it until it doesn't happen.

The disrespect is wild. The only reason DeRozans available is because he’s a defensive liability. If he was even average defensively he’d be making $40M+ because of how much of a beast he is offensively.

He does sort of tie up the ball in the system we were trying to run but he's also a guy you love to have as an option in crunch time when the game is tight and points are at a premium. Unless you are under ten seconds and three points down.

For the former reason I would like to unload him before the season starts but for the latter I struggle to believe he won't be a top option for teams with middle of the road playoff positioning looking for a boost at the deadline. Those are teams that probably we have to take a bad contract but get two future firsts or maybe even more depending how bad that contract is.

Mike brown wasn’t a rookie coach and Derozan career accomplishments have nothing to do with his play you list them all out and he still gets traded for a couple seconds

If there was a team with 25m in open cap space you are probably correct but the reality is he has to be traded for ~25m in matching contracts so the value of that player(s) must be considered before you determine what future considerations get applied.

He’s elite in the mid range and getting to the line. He excels in isos, in the post, and in late game situations. My point is this has to be taken into account as well.

Yeah, I think after the allstar break he might start looking like a good addition to a contender, especially if he's willing to come off the bench for a chance at a championship.

His defense is trash and he totally dominates/stagnates an offense, but Deebo is still a guy who can come in and get you buckets on buckets.

I'm not sure what kind of return we'll get for him, but if Nique and/or Maxime show potential in actual NBA minutes, Perry needs to start thinking about shipping some of the geezers out!

He's cheap enough for what he offers that if he accepts a role on a good team you'd think it would pay off especially in the Eastern Conference where it seems being healthy for your playoff run matters as much if not more than your seeding.

I was thinking EC as well when I wrote that post, but hell trade him anywhere! Trade him to a conference rival even! It's looking like the usual bloodbath in the West this upcoming season. Let's see Perry manifest a Deebo bidding war!

It would be hilarious if Deebo shows he's still a clutch 20ppg player and ends up getting us a better return than Fox (low bar considering the return on that trade was straight up dog ****)!

Fox return was at least partially a result of expectations of what we were "supposed to get", and also his contract status meant that a good chunk of what remained on his current contract he'd be playing through injury or recovering from surgery, and then he told teams that he would only re-sign with the Spurs. Given the way the lottery played out its unfortunate he put us in such a nasty situation and I only hope karma ships him out if Harper and Castle prove to be their future. But I won't mind if that doesn't happen and they drop into the lotto in 2027 and we keep that pick.

Has he actually signed an extension with the Spurs yet? I'm sorry but I do not wish him well and there are a half dozen ways his insistence on Spurs and only Spurs can still backfire and I am rooting for all of them.

What facts support this?
It's pretty clear just by watching the game last year. Who on our team got better with the addition of DeRozan?
It was a bunch of guys standing around knowing DeRozan the black hole would just take a contested mid range.

Now he's pretty good at making that shot, but again IMO it pretty clearly hurts the team as a hole. Pace slows down, players get stagnant, guys tend to become more selfish. I think everyone can see he's an iso only player who can't function as a critical part of a team. Hence why their have been zero offers for him when all Kings media initially reported the team is basically willing to give him away.

We are still holding out hope that Demar returns anything substantial? I'll celebrate if we get an expiring for him.

This is more of a team construction issue than it was a DeMar DeRozan issue. 4 ball dominant guys with 1 plus defender was never going to be a recipe for success. Not fair to place the blame on DeRozan.

We don’t know what’s been offered for him do we? I wouldn’t take what these reports say as reality.

Nah, I just think a better return than what we got for Fox is doable because that trade was doodoo
Let's be clear, the Fox package was 3 1sts + 5 2nds + Tre Jones expiring + Zach Collins (expires this year)
Us then trading #12 + those contracts for LaVine was the doodoo.
Then wasting 3 of the 2nds on a LaRavia rental and JVal (Saric) compounded the crap.

I think every single person would prefer us going into this year with

Schroder/Monk
Keon/Carter/Huerter
Essengue or Carter Byant/Demar/Nique
Keegan/Jones
Sabonis/Maxime/Collins

This would have actually been a competent team. We would have young talent to develop. Expirings of Huerter/Collins and semi expiring for Demar coming off the books next year to go along with another top 10 pick. Dump Monk somewhere. And next year it could have been -

Top 10 pick/Schroder
Keon/Carter
Bryant/Nique
Keegan/Jones
Sabonis/Maxime

But Monte ****ed the team badly at the deadline.

You really watch the games and don't see him as a black hole on offense? I guess we watch different games, we can agree to disagree on that.

I mean its being reported by local and national media. All of Kings media from DLO/KC, Ham, Dave were saying it was a forgone conclusion he was gone as soon as Perry was hired. Then suddenly a month later, "dont be surprised if he isn't moved, the market just isn't there".

Pretty clear to me nobody wants him.
