Kings coaching prospects (Merged)

Big anem, has won the big game, and does great interviews... would be slam dunk for the Maloofs. Personally I question his ablity to work with a team in transition, and essintally feel he is over rated, but I'll be the first to say he probalby has the best resume of any name kicked arround so far.

I'm just wondering if the reason they haven't announced who it is is because they're still coaching in the PO's, like PJ for example. Is anyone else thinking the same thing?

Given their nature, the Maloofs will salivate at the thought of Larry Brown coaching this team. You can bet he'll be at the top of the list now.

I think Larry Brown is a great coach, but one thing i don't like about him is how he criticizes his players in public. If he started doing that in Sac, well... (think Artest and Bonzi).

Brown is an amazing coach, he just had a bad year with the Knicks because Thomas gave him such a lousy roster.

I bet what will happen is Adelman will get hired for the Knicks new job and Brown here in SACTO. It makes since and I can see both coaches thrive with their new teams.

Rick can handle the crazy ego's in Marbury and others on that team while Larry can get our team to the finals.

I like Brown. But I'm afraid Artest won't work well with this guy maybe #93 took it hard when the Maloofs *didn't resign* Adelman. He's so tight. I'm imagining right now what if Brown screamed at Artest, Wells , Thomas and all the notorious player in our roster. But I'm sure he will PICK the right guy in the draft (bigman please for the love of God!).

If that happens...good luck with that. He'll sign a contract and then leave long before it's up, leaving the Kings, once again, coachless. I don't think he has ever finished out a contract for any team he's ever coached.

If you want a coach that has won championships at every level then the Kings should go for it!

The 2001 IBM NBA Coach of the Year with the Philadelphia 76ers, Brown was also honored three times as the ABA’s Coach of the Year (1973 with Carolina, 1975 and 1976 with Denver). Larry has been a head coach in two NBA All-Star Games, winning each time (1977 at Milwaukee, 2001 at Washington), and is an eight-time NBA Coach of the Month selection (League or Conference; most recently in February 2005 with Detroit). Brown is also the only head coach in basketball history to win both an NCAA Championship (Kansas 1988) and an NBA title (Detroit 2004).
In 22 seasons as an NBA head coach, Brown has guided his teams to eight 50+ win seasons, seven divisional titles, three Conference Championships (Philadelphia in 2001, Detroit in 2004 and 2005) and one World Championship with the Pistons in 2004. He has led his team to the Playoffs in 17 of his 22 NBA seasons.
The eight different pro teams that Brown coached prior to coming to New York averaged an improvement of 8.9 wins over the season prior to his arrival. And each of those teams has followed a credo that has become synonymous with Brown: Playing the Right Way. “I’ve grown up playing for some incredible coaches, and I don’t think anybody’s ever been as fortunate as I have in terms of the people I’ve been allowed to play under, coach under, or be involved with,” says Brown. “And they all kind of had the same philosophy: You’ve got to share the ball, or play unselfishly. You’ve got to try to guard, make an effort to defend to the best of your ability. You have to rebound the ball, which was an area that was so critical. And they wanted to you play smart and have fun. I’ve kind of tried to let our people understand those are the most important things that I could possibly tell them.”

The fourth-winningest coach in NBA history and universally acclaimed as one of the greatest teachers the sport has ever known

Starbury and Stevie Franchise couldn't work with Larry Brown because he wanted them to play defense and share the ball. The Knicks roster is a mess, I don't think it's fair to say Brown couldn't do something with the Kings. Besides, we don't even know if we will have Bonzi next year yet.

If there is one coach out there who can be worth it in exchange for RA. It's LB. LB does have health conditions and he's up there in age, but he would be a great fit here. The situation in New York is probably one where no coach can win in. Before NY, LB has boosted every team he's coach up one level. He's only a 1-2 year coach before he goes crazy, but he'll make the team that much better.

It could be a possible title run here if LB comes in and if GM/Owner Maloofs find a solid big man(knock on wood for KG)

You gotta be kidding me. I may have my coaches confused here, but Larry Brown did not larry brown go from the Detroit to New York, the Knicks then spent more on players than any other team in the NBA. Under Brown, the Knicks have become one of the very worst teams in the League. Has not Brown entertained serious personnel problems in the past. And this guy is supposed to be better than Rick Adelman.

Why don't the Maloofs try to hire Boby Knight? Isn't he still alive?

Give me strength!

What a good timing (for Maloofs)! Big name, winning record, and DEFENSE. Wow, maybe perpect fit for Maloofs.

# 1 : I'm kidding : Do Maloof like Larry Brown, who seemed not to care about owners or a GM and just to insist his way?

# 2 : I'm serious : Artest said he hate the coaching method of Inidiana coach, Carlisle, because that's too tight and too sensitve. Does Artest like Larry Brown, who are the emperor of micro-controlling players?

I know what you mean :( I don't think there's a good replacement for Rick around. It's going to come down to a lesser of the evils thing (or more likely, whoever the Maloofs just like more :mad: ) and I hate that...

Well he is defenitely not a player's coach. And while he is a good defensive coach, his offensive schemes are terrible and this team would probably struggle to score 70 points. Hell no! I'd rather have a more well-rounded coach like SVG.

Larry Brown a Good coach with college coaching skills with relating to his players, He's a Energy suck coach,A coach who sucks the life out of His players and Breathes his mind and his thinking into them, He's a Good Defensive minded coach, who likes shot Blockers and favors his point guards To run the sets that he calls from the Bench, Until the play runs it's full course, Regardless of what happens.

He's a Screamer as a Coach, a coach who wouldn't Tolerate Bonzi's mental mistakes or his Many turnovers, He would allow bonzi to post at will as well as Artest. Brad miller wouldn't be his favorite player and mike bibby would have to learn how to be a Traditional point guard and playing better man to man Defense.

Larry might be a Good Choice, But it will take a Few moves here and there and a Few seasons to get to that championship level.

The coach doesn't make the draft selections. Geoff Petrie does.

Yes! I have been saying that for since the ax fell. It just does not seem to make any sense from any perspctive to tell rick he is done and NOT have somone ready to take over. Thats what you do to a looseing bum the fans hate when the tick holders are clammoring for change, NOT what you do when you let a guy who turned the franchise arround and is still winning games. If you trade up tell the fans your trading up, not rolling the dice.

So 2 possiblites: One, the coach in question is still coaching a contender (BIG possiblity)
Two the coach in question is under contract and the Maloofs are either waiting to see if the roumers are true and or have attonreys looking in to how to extricate him.

Of course as allways I could be compleetly worng, but if things are as they SEEM: coach gone now taking aplications... then the Maloofs did a very very stupid thing by firing Rick pubicly when they did. And some how I jsut do not see the Maloofs as stupid.
