Kings co-owner wants mayor removed from arena negotiations

I had to go look... Here's what Grant tweeted a few minutes ago for those who aren't on Twitter:

Chris Lehane's remarks from Think Big Sacramento on the Maloof's is classless and embarrassing...just disgraceful!

My response?

No, Grant. What's disgraceful is to have someone pee on your leg for two years and tell you it's raining and you believe them.

oooohh peaches is madd. read his latest tweet lol

Protecting his bosses...yawn. You know what's disgusting Napear? Owners who invest as minimally as they can in a team while simultaneously making outrageous demands, renege on a deal, and in the end say "we don't want an arena...PBP is fine." At some point, Napear should just shut his can because there obviously a conflict of interest from this mouthpiece. At least Reynolds has some dignity and won't publicly back these grave diggers.

Grant is in a tough position, but he certainly can handle it in a more neutral way. Right now he is coming off like Baghdad Bob.

It's the dishonest part that hurts Peaches. It hits too close to home. Grant is such a ho for the Kings that he gives prostitutes a bad name

And near the end of his public tirade, he explicitly stated the cost to the city would be less if PBP was remodeled. Seriously, why would the city finance the piece of junk when they are neither tenants nor owners. Sacramento can't be the only business partner they have done this to. I wonder how many necks they had to step on to get where they were.
If George Maloof had any brains and paid attention any attention over the last year, he would have read the report the city had done showing that they would have to demolish PBP and start from scratch. It cannot be adequately remodeled on the current foundation. So the estimate to rebuild at PBP was actually higher than the cost of an arena downtown.

And George saying they had only 8 days is sheer bullcrap. The city was completely open and transparent to anybody who paid any attention and read all the reports. And supposedly Stern was keeping the Maloofs informed all along as well and I believe Stern. I knew what the terms were going to be in that document way earlier, because I went to city council meetings, a town hall meeting and read the reports to the city council. A person would have to willfully be ignoring all that, to say they only knew the terms for 8 days.

And I would have no trouble believing these three brothers are all drug users. They are all getting old and still acting like irresponsible teenagers. They certainly aren't successful businessmen. As to George's remark that he's a developer. Let's see, George, what have you ever developed, really. The Palms, you say? Yeah, I'd wave that around as proof of what a great developer you are.

And how can Grant call Lehane classless? He's only telling the obvious truth. Besides if Lehane's comment is classless, then in what category do you put the Maloofs behavior. It's way beyond classless. The Maloofs are scum-sucking liars, con men and cheats, who wouldn't know class, if it came up and bite them in the ***. Sorry, Grant, but that's like blaming the victim for being angry at being suckered and robbed by cheats. That's low-class and Inexcusable.

For some reason it's tough for me to imagine Grant using the internet, let alone twitter.

Yet again, twitter is internet chat for dummies.

Chris Lehane's tweet was not only hilarious, it's actually true. Love it.

Grant Napear sounds just as crazy and myopic as George Maloof, if that's even possible. They both need to lay off the peyote.

The funny thing is that Lehane is a serious big time player as a political consultant and media strategist. He is the one who basically invented character assassination. From the wikipedia on him:

"The New York Times labeled Lehane the "Master of the Political Dark Arts" for his opposition research work on behalf of the failed Wesley Clark bid for the 2004 nomination when he mounted considerable efforts to derail the Howard Dean bid, portraying him as hypocritical, dishonest, and inconsistent."

and...

"Lehane is often included in discussions of "politics of personal destruction" methodologies employed by political campaign consultants, including feeding information to selected media outlets."

I think it's pretty good having him on your side.

The timing of his little statement is no accident. It's also no coincidence that he's the Executive Director of Think Big.

Worth a read:

The revisionist historian bull coming from the Maloofs shows no bounds. This is the same family who hired an architect firm who told us it would take an extra 10 million to redo ARCO2 then it would take to build a new ESC. .... Hello Georgie, We aren't amoebas. We DO recall all 12 years of your family just saying no to every proposal while never giving one yourselves! This aint the city of lost wages. We will not put up with your shenanigans any longer. Your words mean nothing. Put up or shut up!

I'm glad to see i'm not the only one to see theres definately a mental or substance issue with Gutterslime Maloof. He may need a good 6 month treatment far away from everybody.

And Mr Napear could use some endless hounding monday from us. I'm getting sick and tired of his butt kissing.

And thank you Chris Lehane for that beautiful slam of the Maloof familyso well earned.

Funny thing with Grant is if the Kings leave, he probably loses all his jobs and all his clout. You would think that would be a moderating factor in his commentary.

Nape the Grape has said, "I don't know what I would do if the team leaves, I don't want to think about it"

For those wondering btw... Jerry and Gary say they will be staying here.

I recall few months ago Napear saying he might have to get a place in Anaheim if Kings moved there. I guess he assumes Maloofs or whoever owns Kings down the road would still want him around. I think both Jerry and G-man are so close to retirement they would stay in Sac - or Placer County where both live.

Perhaps boycotting Kings/Maloofs is not a good strategy for Kings fans but pressuring sponsers/advertisers supporting both MSE and KHTK radio might be very effective. I know I would not now buy anything that Napear hawks on his radio show.

I think you're right. I don't know why George runs the show. I love what Chris Lehane said though.

Because now that George has been all but ousted as the Palms head he has nothing to do. He ran the beer distributorship and the Palms into the ground so now he's going to run the Kings into the ground. I thought the Kings were Joe and Gavins baby. I dont understand how George has become the big spoke in the wheel now. Seems like J & G are afraid of him.

Watching that press conference the other day, it's pretty clear why the Palms investment went down in flames. If he'd stayed out of this and let his brothers make the deal, the Kings franchise was going to steadily rise in value over the course of that 30 year lease. All downtown development including the planned high-speed rail line was going to benefit the perceived value of the team. Who knows whats going to happen now. Everybody loses. Why anyone would prefer to be a laughing-stock third wheel in someone else's facility instead of the only game in town is a complete mystery to me.

How will Grant reply to George's suggestion that PBP renovated? Grant has shut down caller after caller who has suggested this idea - and rightfully so. Is he willing to do a 180 on this opinion?

Grant will do/say whatever he has to do to appease the Magoofs and keep his job.

maybe its the vegas connection, but george maloof seriously reminds me of fredo corleone in the godfather pt. ii...

its just unfortunate that the maloof family lacks a michael corleone to straighten everybody out...

or at least a tom hagan-like consigliere to advise them on how not to **** this arena situation up any further...

He'll just repeat the same absurd BS from the maloofs saying that it's feasible now because of revenue sharing...

You have to wonder what brother Phil thinks of all this. More and more I'm convinced that George is in need of an intervention but that the rest of the family fears his volatile reaction to do anything about it. There is so something else going on that we don't know.

The whole family needs an intervention. They are the NBA versions of the Kardashians.

Oh no you didn't. Please don't bring in the Kardashians. If I have to say something to point out how they're better than the Maloofs it won't be pretty. (And for the record, I freaking detest all things Kardashian with a hatred generally reserved for the Lakers and the Maloofs.)

Ironic words from the one guy that's holding up a workable deal. If Georgie was removed from negotiations and a muzzle placed on him by his brothers, this deal would have happened along time ago.

Funny, but if George is the best representative and speaker among the family, they are in a lot more trouble than I ever thought.

He is because he is just a mouthpiece for the Magoofs...and this is just one example of why Grant Napear has lost credibility with me. I have heard him multiple times shoot down callers who actually thought that renovationg ARCO would be a better idea. Grant would spew hateful vitriol towards the caller calling them morons etc...I also remember Joe Malooff specifically comment on Grants show that remodeling Arco would cost more than a new arena itself. Obviously Grant just spits out whatever the Maloofs want him to spin. For years I have been an apologist for Grant...but not anymore. Its clear what his role is and unfortunatly for him, he may have chosen the wrong side because the Maloofs are broke, and cant come up with their share of the money to finish the deal. That is why they they backed out. They got another year because I dont believe the Magoofs ever thought the city would be able to get the financing together. We sure fooled them. Once the Magoofs are forced to sell the team (and I believe it is inevitable) it will not be forgotton who Napear stood for in this battle. I fully expect there to be a changing of the guard not only in ownership, but also in radio and telelvision announcing as far the Kings are concerned. I understand protecting your job and livelyhood but ultimatly if you're backing unscrupulous and unethical leadership you become what they are or you take a stand for right. Im convinced Grant has lost sight of what the right thing is here. He only cares about how it is going affecting his life and his has hitched his reigns to the sinking ship that is Magoof. He has no stake in the city of Sacramento other than that is where he works. He doesnt live here. He lives in Folsom. He has backed the wrong horse and he will be taking a fall along with the Magoofs as well.

How can they not be forced to sell if they not only don't negotiate in good faith, but it's gotten to the point no one can even deal with them? Stern has got to do something here.

Not sure what he can "legally" do!

I am certain he would LOVE to remove these goons as owners as not only do they bring negative attention to themselves, they are also damaging the NBA as they are owners of one team and as such are part of the NBA.

I am sure there would be some "behind the scenes" action from the NBA's part but they would have to be super careful how they go about this because they can potentially open themselves up to a lawsuit. Bottom line, Sterns could not be seen as taking sides or going anti-Maloofs on this even though privately he would love nothing more than to kick them to the kerb and forget they ever existed.

As for Maloof, I am sure he is legally insane and he will fall on his own sword pretty soon and bring his family down with him. He is just not all there. A normal person does not act that way. Something is really off with him I am sure.

He talked about it Friday and had no idea where they came up with it.
