Kings / Clippers trade idea

Inspired by a post in the "Who would best compliment Havok?" thread, I have formulated a trade you may all think looks strange, but I think makes perfect sense for both teams:

Kings trade: (Clippers incoming)

Kevin Martin
Beno Udrih

Clippers Trade: (Kings incoming)

Chris Kaman
Eric Gordon

Reasons:

1. Eric Gordon is a 6'3" 222 pound shooting guard that has been often compared to Mitch Richmond. He's 20 years old and is absolutely lethal. His line:
18.9 ppg, 4 apg, 51% FG, 46% 3pt, 1.7 spg.

This seems to be a good compliment to Tyreke. Gordon is a little undersized for what we would ideally want (Brandon Roy), but a very workable second, I would hazard.

2. Chris Kaman is a 7 foot 265 pound true center that forces Hawes onto the bench. he is 27 years old, and is capable of performing at an all star level: 21 ppg, 8 rpg, 1.6 bpg, 53%FG, .000% 3pt. (this year)

I have always enjoyed Kaman's game, and having him start next to Thompson would give us some real depth in the front court, as well as scare the crap out of pesky cutting guards.

3. The Kings shed roughly 2.5 million in salary this year.

Why for the Clippers?

1. Beno makes Baron Davis expendable to them. I'm sure that they don't want Davis's cancerous dogma exposed to their shiny new PF Griffin for too long, lest it should rub off.

2. Kevin Martin is an ample replacement for Ben Gordon, and helps Clippers fans forget that Rasual Butler and Kareem Rush are on their team

3. We have to pay Gordon when his contract comes to term in a year. Ten of their player's contracts come to term at the same time, and they have to worry about keeping Al Thornton, Marcus Camby, and acquiring a solid bench.

Virtually no chance of the Clippers doing this. I'd guess they would prefer Gordon (who is already very good and could be a future star) over Martin. If they were trying to dump Kaman's contract why would they want to take on Benos?

After posting, I have studied this idea again, and it makes the most sense to appeal to the Clipper's lack of lineup longevity, contract-wise. They can shore up their back court for a few years without taking on the additional $8 Mil / year that Gordon would command, and thin out their front court to make room for Griffin.

Don't forget, that would also theoretically make it easier for them to extend Thornton and trade Baron for / add solid veterans to their bench.

It's more of a nuance trade.

Awesome deal for us but no way the Clippers do this. Kaman is still relatively young so if anyone in that stacked frontcourt is gonna be traded, it's Camby.

I forgot that they found a way to dump Randolph over the offseason. That makes this trade even less realistic. Hmm....

How about getting Camby instead of Kaman? My main intent is to pair Gordon with Evans, so taking back Camby and filler like Mardy Collins still works. And they're all 1 year terms according to ESPN, so it's not like you're stuck.

If you wanted, you could even keep Camby to influence Hawes for a couple of years.

Or, maybe this will have to involve a third team. Hmmm.....

Clearly, I have some brain exercising to do when it comes to this armchair GM'ing. I don't do it very often. We may now have to totally shoot this one down.

People. This is the Clippers. This chance has a 50-50 chance of happening just because it was brought up. I think Sterling is trying to trade Gordon for a 1 round draft pick of the Spurs in 2024 because by his math, they will not longer be good then.

id do this trade in a heartbeat. Gordon would be able to guard the Pgs and Evans the SG, and we would still have the mismatch on offense with Evans at PG. I would prolly even throw another young player in the deal to make it happen.

Ordinarily, I'd say this trade proposal is farfetched. But we're dealing with the Clipps here. Anything is possible. I think you should ask for even more from the Clipps, like their #1 pick in the next draft.

Wow, I was actually musing about this possibility to myself the other day. I like it. Do the Clippers, though? Probably not with Beno. So how do we counter? Noce?

At first I probably would have laughed at the chance of us getting this trade.... But honestly it is the Clippers. They love Beno. And with Beno playing well again I bet they would love him even more. I'd love this trade, I actually think they probably would trade Kaman first because Camby is expiring - they could try to package Camby/Baron for whatever they want.... Either big man though would be a-ok with me.

It would be a good trade for us, but the clippers would have beno and baron at pg... If griffin were healthy and playing well I could understand why te clippers would do this. They would be a playoff team easily if healthy. But griffin is out and so is Martin, it would make sense if both teams weren't so cursed when it comes to injuries.

Eric Gordon, along with Blake Griffin, is probably the most untouchable player on the Clippers. It's as simple as this: you NEVER trade away productive young talent. Granted Gordon's undersized and only appears to have two tricks maximum, but his scoring tools are lethal, and that's all that matters. Kevin Martin's still young enough and productive enough that some team might want him, but I think that mid to low playoff teams would make better use of his skills. No doubt he's an attractive trade bait, though.
