Kings claim rookie center Luke Schenscher off waivers from Denver

Why? What makes Sampson a better prospect?

Sampson, Ferguson, Jones. They're all shotblockers, which gave me the idea that the team is looking for some defensive help behind Brad. If the Kings are serious about improving their athleticism and defense up front, I'd have to give the edge to a guy like Sampson.

Schenscher could vary well pick up the offense better than Ferguson or Sampson, and I'm sure he is a better fit on that end of the court. But my feeling is that Geoff (and probably Rick) are looking for a guy to provide what Keon Clark did (no, not weed) a couple seasons back.

If that's the case, I'd bet on Ralph's nephew making the squad.

Besides, I have to root for another Golden Bear to crack the Kings roster.

Schenscher is already > Sampson.

That's the feeling I have, but I just want to see him at least play some exhibition games before I go around saying it for reals.

scheshner! dat dude from ga tech, he was hella hyped 2 years ago during the finals but he just got shut down by Meka Man (emeka okeafor). wait, now that i look at his stats from the uconn game, he didn't get shut down, he just got out played. Even so,I like him, hes cool.

Schesner is thekind of guy the new CBA was thinking of by allowing a contracted player to be stashed on a develemental roster. He has some rare gifts: size, passing skill and good judgment, but is way to soft, thin and raw to make it in the NBA.

does this mean bye-bye anwar?

No, it's a replacement for Lonnie Jones.

I still think Sampson has the upperhand because of what he can bring, overall size, and what he did with the Bobcats, which was good. But Schenscher seems like a solid young big guy, glad to see him get another chance to at least get himself out there. The Nuggets were already set at back-up center with Elson, and Nene who is a PF-C. I wouldn't mind seeing Luke make the team.

lovely to see an aussie flavour to the kings...
ive seen a lot of his GT games here.... as has already been said, a bit of offensive skill, an above average passer for his size/position, but other than i don't think he'll be doing more than flapping a towel from the end of the bench.

sounds like Luke might have a little more to offer offensively, but I would just really like to see him, Anwar, Jamal and Lonnie duke it out for a roster spot. It's obvious at least one is up for grabs. Maybe we get lucky on one kid, then lock the next best one or two up in NBDL. No lose situation for Kings, collect those young, athletic (except for Luke anyway) big men and let 'em season up. No reason to be thrilled, but I'm more excited now than I was before! Come on preseason, never been so pumped for a preseason!

i really hope he makes the squad. i always had this love hate for him at GT. Since I'm a Duke fan, I couldn't really ever cheer for him. But I've always thought he had a nice post game. His shot blocking will be improved as his body improves. If you put 10-15 of muscle on him, he'd be a linebacker in the middle.

re

He might make it to the roster. Rick prefers a player who plays with his head than mussle.

Bingo. We are one of those teams if we did have a Ben Wallace type player in camp he would be cut because he has NO offensive skill.

I saw a few of Schenscher's games while he was at GT and thought he was decent. I thought he had great hands and good shot blocking skills. Played with what he was comfortable doing and didnt for anything. Don't know much about Sampson, but I this Schenscher will have a better career in the NBA.

i understand that we wanna keep updates on our kings, why is it so important to start a new thread about a no-name that we picked up from the nuggets?

Because some people, who follow college basketball, know that he's better than just some "no-name that we picked up from the nuggets?"

Mm...perhaps. The leagues GMs didn't think he was Top 60 coming out of college, but as always, we will see. He has some Kings traits (for better and worse).

I suspose there is a point there -- if he had been on the initial training camp roster he would have just been lumped into the general training camp thread. But since he came in late, gets his own little spot in the sun. Not sure what the big deal is though.

Stipulated, but the league GM's don't always get it right... especially when it comes to F/C's.
