we’re going to be in late-lottery purgatory hell forever aren’t we?

Dude, it took them literally 1 year and some months over their holdover coaches expiration date and how many? 4-5, 8 game or more losing streaks in that span to make a move there? Just have to hope the tortoise eventually wins the race.

So I have 0 problem watching that 4th quarter team with a pile of future assets on top of it. Played hard on defense, youth, and going to properly suck for the first time.

Nah, gotta get one major youth piece now to go along with it. Otherwise fans are going to loathe some of these players when they get the offense lumped on them and they pull out an 8 minute quarter at some point, haha.

Yeah, they are not going to give Fox away for picks. It's got to be a young NBA 3/4 with some major upside.

If McNair actually did firesale, he'd get something exciting back between Fox/Buddy/Barnes/Holmes/Bagley

Yep. That unit needs a consistent iso scorer type, especially if Fox were heading out in a rebuild (though, once again, Fox is still only 24 so I'm not sure how exactly you find a scorer younger than that).

A lot of the big contenders have already sort of emptied their cupboards of young assets and picks though so it's kinda hard to see us getting fair value on all of those guys at once though.

Fox/Holmes to NY for Barrett/Toppin/filler/1st rounder

Obi's already as old as Fox though lol and if Kings fans are already at their limit with Fox's inconsistency, they'll love Barrett, who is equal parts great and awful. I'd need more than one pick to even consider that trade though.

Barret and Toppin are not elite talents. That’s going sideways.

Like Tetsujin said, not a lot of options unfortunately. Barrett in a system that can showcase his talents along with Toppin are good options IMO. The hope is under Thibs they are suppressed production wise, which is nothing new.

Part of it would be you can fill it out with shorter deals so that is relieving you of well north of a 100 million.

Yeah, I think the ship has sailed at this point on fair value. Clean the cap sheet, get some future 1st rounders, get some decently solid young talents (Bulls, Warriors, Knicks, Wizards all have some interesting pieces and should be buyers) and lets see if any of the Monte farm prospects have some juice and what Mitchell/Hali can be as a starting back-court.

I think more importantly, we put ourselves in a position to draft a Paolo or Chet. That's more important to get the potential generational talent over getting fractionally better value on the vets.

The Kings can get Simmons or Sabonis, it’s just a matter of price. Monte’s move needs to be a trade for a clear talent upgrade.

Those aren't rebuild moves though. Those are lateral to a T. We were talking about blow up scenarios.

There's a chance the Knicks might end up as sellers though. They're 1-5 in their last six games, Randle and RJ seems to have regressed a bit, and Thibs seems to be losing his team more and more every day.

On the one hand, you might be able to use their desperation to pull more assets from them but a lot of the contracts on that roster are so long and bloated that they present their own problems for a rebuilding team.

Kings fans: Blow it up and rebuild!

the same exact Kings fans: Blow it up by trading for even older players on even longer and bigger contracts!

What’s funny is you think Fox is in the same talent tier as Simmons or Sabonis. A slightly older player on a longer contract is awesome when you’re getting a clear talent upgrade. And all three aren’t in their primes yet.

Or Bradley Beal or Ben Simmons or something... But yes, Mitchell is a keeper as is Haliburton but after that?

I would add TD to the mix because I sense a toughness in him that you want on this team. Also, I personally like Barnes. He's smart, a pro's pro, a competitor, and he'll be even better with a bigger, more athletic team around him. Now he's asked to continually battle against bigger guys and it doesn't work. That said, if you can get someone better, then get someone better. But I'm not trading Barnes for mid level #1s, that's for sure.

As for who to get back in trade, Beal is really good. Simmons is a mental case, and no way am I rebuilding around a mental case. He's the antithesis of the kind of players they need on this team. Sabonis fits in perfectly because he's one tough son-of-a-b*****, has a mean streak, and competes on a nightly basis. Having Mitchell and Sabonis in the same starting lineup would transform the personality of this team and in my opinion have a ripple effect on those who remain standing after the trade deadline.

There's clearly a significant difference of opinion on whether that move would represent a "clear talent upgrade."

Haven't we been knowing this?

Jesus Christ. If you're going to blow it up and rebuild, there can't be any caveats.

"Trade all the older players... except for this one guy!" is just going to result in more of the same 12-9th seed purgatory madness. Trade everyone with any value. See what your younger/value-less players can do. Figure out a way to acquire high lotto picks be it though a tank or trading with a desperate team. Period.

If we blow it up. No one is off limits. Not Fox, not Holmes, not Barnes, not even Haliburton or Mitchell.

It'll be painful but if you want to do it right, that's what you have to do.

I don't want to blow it up. I want to rebuild now and be a playoff contender. Forget about going five years in the desert and hoping and praying you're going to finally find an oasis.
