It will be a long, looong season
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was thinking that since there is a "new wind" in the Kings organization - I would put the past to rest and move on but I was wrong. Can't do it. Can't live in the past either but there are always memories. While this Kings have to build the "trust" and excitement - there was a Kings team not that long ago which had it all but a little luck and fair officiating.
On November 3rd 2000 Kings beat Pistons 100 - 93 to finish 2-1 on the 3 game season opening road trip. That season Kings finished 55-27 and won their first PO round. A guy who owned his "home town" was - yes You guessed it - Chris Webber. 31/12/2/2/1 was enough to be by far the best player on the floor. Bobby Jackson had 17/7/2 and
Pedja had 11 points.
Kings had a bench too (for the new fans - those are the guys that come in during a game and actually contribute). On that night Kings bench outscored Pistons bench 37-23 lead by Pollard's 15/14, JB had 11/2/7 and D. Martin contributed 10 points and 3 assists.

Detroit native Chris Webber collected 33 points and 12 rebounds and Scot Pollard added 15 and 14 against his former team to lift the Sacramento Kings to a100-93 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Webber scored 29 points over the final three quarters. He shot
just 9-of-25 from the field but was locked in at the foul line, hitting 13-of-14.

"The thrill I have every time is when I see my mother's cooking" Webber said. "It's good to see everybody. I'm never home for Christmas so this is like my Christmas."

"It's good for us after losing in double overtime to Cleveland in a game we thought we should have won," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "We came out with a lot of energy tonight. In the second half especially, we took better care of the ball. We went to the boards and got a lot of offensive rebounds."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the “Groundhogs day” continues as Kings drop a season opener yet again. If wouldn’t been a big deal but the game was winnable and the opponent really sucked so it is aggravating. Kings will try in Chicago to avoid the first losing streak of the season and to stop the “Groundhog day effect.” Everyone who has a little clue knows that it will be much harder than beating Wolves who BTW are getting worse and worse every year and if KG was 6’7 or 6’8 we would probably consider him strongly. Too bad he is too tall.

Before we go back to the Kings – let’s take a short look at the rest of the NBA. Can’t say much after couple days but it looks like the difference between most teams is pretty much non existent. Every game is important if You are competing for PO spots. There are no easy wins out there. Even Kincks couldn’t find a way to lose despite trying hard.
Also the new officiating policies are – how should I put it – crap. What idiot thought of that ? It is like Crawford, Bavetta, Palmer, etc .. died and gone to heaven. Now they can finally put their torture methods to full use. It will get so bad that most of the players will forget that they play with the new ball. Yes, players need to adjust and will adjust with time (not all of them) but who will tell the refs how much they suck?
Finally, congratulations to former Kings who won their season openers. ( CW, Hedo, Pedja, Bobby & co). Unless they play Kings – always good to see.

Kings as a team have issues. In fact – they have so many that Dr Phil and Oprah Winfrey combined would have no chances to fix it. In fact – after failing to do so both of them would need a therapy themselves for a very long time. I don’t know where to start - myself.
Couple weeks ago – I went to buy a shoes insoles so I can “gell” with the rest (extremely retarded commercial BTW). While I was looking at bunch of them – it occurred to me that most o them are “fit all sizes” type of soles. Suddenly, it hit me. Things started to make sense. GP is a genius. Here is how it works. You sign a 6’8 player. You make him “bend” a bit and You have a 6’2 PG. You cut his hair off and You get 6’5 SG. With 6’8 he can play SF and PF. You pot some extra shoe insoles and make him grow “afro” – and You get 6’11 center. Brilliant and yet cheap. That is not a real genius here because as You would point out (unless something is really wrong with Your basketball knowledge) – such a player can’t actually play any position and would suck and would be “destroyed” by “specialist” on the floor. The player would lose confidence and suck even worse. The real genius is having 3, 4 or 5 players of such type. Everyone is confused to a point where nothing makes sense. The players suck the same but they can’t tell because there is no point of reference. The opponent is confused because the players look the same. The coach doesn’t have to figure who plays what position because everyone plays everything, commentators don’t have to read up the sizes etc. As I said – one size fits all.
I am “gellin” too. (BTW if You were unable to detect sarcasm – there is nothing anyone can do for You).

It took an amazing one game to start complaining about a coach and his decisions and he was sober and wasn’t driving. Now, Muss is not s good as Adelman yet because winning is a habit and so is losing. Muss might never be as good but that is not a point. A coach is not a magician or a miracle worker. You can’t bake cake out of crap (well You might be able to bake it but I dare You to eat it). What is he supposed to do ? Invent a backup PG or a PF or a C or bench. ? The effort was there, players tried hard.
In fact – we can’t blame the guy for drinking. Just imagine being him last night when Bibby got tossed. You turn to the bench and …? How can You not drink? Pretty soon he might keep booze in his Gatorade bottle which remind me on my high school chemistry teacher who kept his booze in the sulfuric acid container.

We are as deep as Pedja’s post game quotes. We have one PG who had to play injured because he can’t be replaced. Remember when Damon Jones was our 3rd PG. We have no PF and no Center whatsoever. We have some “players” that cover those positions due to lack of alternatives. We will be the worst shot blocking team in the history of western civilization. And of course – we don’t have bench. We have SAR who should be starting but if he does – then we would have …In pretty short time we went from having many players that any team wanted to having many players that no one wants. We even have players that Kincks didn’t want. Something might be wrong with this picture.

People are also complaining how we don’t move the ball as well as we used too. Welcome to 2006 and if You don’t mind me asking – where the hell have You been the last 2 seasons? When You watch a Kings game again take a good look and try to find players wearing #4 and #21. Look at the bench and look for a short old guy with gray hair. Good luck finding them there. When they left so did our beautiful offense and our success. Don’t feel bad because those guys were special. They don’t grow on trees and they aren’t 6’8.

So we lost to Wolves. We had them after ¾ but be didn’t want them. When Mike “left” so did our game whatever it was. We couldn’t take care of the ball mainly because we had no other PG. Our defense limited KG to being perfect from the field until the garbage time. We shot horrible. Wolves suck big time. They won’t win much again. We are so used losing there as we are used to beat Clippers (not that bad but close)
AWARD TIME:
First TDM award goes to Pipi 2. He had some strong competition in the regulars Jaric and Griffin but he managed to grind it out at the end.
The LW – VC award goes to the 3rd best “center” in the league Brad Miller. For ¾ of the game he was less productive than during the preseason where he sat on the bench. He only had 1 foul which he did not het trying to block shots.
The last night “performance” by Mo Taylor made me introduce a new award which will only be given out for such special performances. I call it “Jason Hart Award” It will be given to a player which existence on the court is irrelevant and who makes his team better by not playing (addition by subtraction). Now the LW-VC award is respectable because the player who got it – at least sucked trying to do well. The JHA winner just plain and simple sucks even when he plays his best.

Mike – shut up and play because we can’t afford otherwise as seen in the 4th quarter. Even 5% Bibby is better than the rest on PG position
Ron – this one is hard because he played very hard especially on defense. 6-24 is not acceptable unless You are Iverson and Your team sucks. Is there anyone who can explain to Ron what is the meaning of the phrase “good shot” Maybe if we put it into a rap song and sneak it on his CD – it would help.
Miller – 3rd best center in the NBA right after Muresan and Bol. Might be getting worse every year. Has got to give us more
Martin – You take away 5 TOs and he had a solid performance especially for a road game. To be fair most of those 5 TOs happened when Bibby didn’t play.

KT – I refuse to put him into starting 5. I refuse to accept that he is our starting PF. I don’t care how well he does. We need better than him and soon
SAR – he could pass as a starter on a bad team. Doing well of the bench but he doesn’t bring what we need from a PF either.
I also refuse to mention the rest of the team before there is a contribution made other than being ejected.

Muss – he got guys to play hard and compete. What he could/should have done is not an issue. You can’t put a player in the game that You don’t have. Period.
Might need a location for AA meetings soon.

Bulls are better than wolves and it is their home opener. Their guards are great, they are very deep very athletic and have a very good front line. They can block shots as we will see. Ben Wallace will easily have a monster game. We have to play better and for all 4 quarters. We need every player to play well. We have had some success there but this Bulls are pretty good
TDM award favorite is Thabo Sefolosha mainly because he is Swiss rookie and no one has heard of him. Perfect candidate to torch us.
LW-VC award will hopefully go to a Bulls player this time.

As usual you had me laughing throughout Piksi...Great stuff.

TDM --- Whoever plays backup center...Will have monster game with about 3 blocks to go with his 14 points and 7 boards.

LW --- The Kings frontline...Will be destroyed by Wallace and Co...Will probably combine for some dismal number like 14 rebounds, with K9 grabbing at least half of them, and have shot after shot swatted into the 32nd row because they think they can do cute little finger rolls in Big Ben's face.

JHA --- Mo Taylor...He got cut by the Knicks so this award goes to him by default until he proves me wrong.

I am not sure that I am ready to bestow JHA on Mo Taylor yet. In my mind, getting cut by Knicks is much worse then being Jason Hart. So, I'd like to see some sustained imporvement and consistency from Mo before I am ready to award him a JHA. ;)

I figured you'd comment on Taylor but I was half-way expecting an "APMA" - Anthony Peeler Memorial Award - for the way he attempted to go after KG...

;)

Another nice job, piksi.

Good read Piksi

Your humour is dryer than the Sarhara.

I have a suspicion we will shoot better than 35% in the next game, Im just hoping we can take better care of the ball and cut down the TOs.

GO KINGS !

This is going to be an interesting game that will largely depend on how improved Bibby actually is on defense. Last night it looked like the lesson he learned from his hand injury was to never play defense ever again. Old habits die hard.

The Bulls are a team that will really struggle to score this season (much like the Kings), and whoever Bibby is guarding is going to need to score a lot for the Bulls. I think PJ Brown is my prediction for the TDM award, he always seems to kill the Kings.

Also look for a big game from Kevin Martin if his shot is falling -- the Bulls don't really have anyone who can guard him.

A few days in and I already have a favourite poster...great job piksi.

As for the awards:
The TDM could just as easily go to Chris Duhon. Usually his offense is so bad, it makes one wonder whether he is related to Jason Hart, but the game against Miami showed that he can score if confronted with enough defensive ineptitude. I'll just chalk him down for a good game...
The LW-VC award...let's see...I would hope that it goes to Ben Gordon, but my suspicion is it will be a Kings player again, not sure who though.

if the kings win this, it will cancel last nights game and i will be happpppy :O

i hope they win...

but if they dont

1-4/0-3 is how we started last 2 seasons
slow start(SAC) > good finish(SAC)
good start(GSW) > new coach

We just need to shoot the ball a lot better... bibby never really got going even with his injured thumb and miller played horrible. Kev was the only one really hitting shots consistantly but even he missed some easy shots. This game is definitely not going to be easy, but if we start shooting better and turning the ball over less, we may have a shot. Shut down bg7 and kirk.

Piksi - thanks for another great read!! :D

As for the flashbacks to the "old" Kings, I, for one, enjoy them. After all, we may have moved on, but "the memories remain the property of the Sacramento Kings";)

The Magic are better then you think.
Umm, no they aren't. They are improved relative to last year but they are not that good. They played well against the Bulls but I doubt they will be able to shoot 60% all year long. Heck, I doubt they will shoot 60% 2 games in a row. (wood was already knocked on for you supersticious types);)

Orlando = streaky. And you can't be on a streak with only one game played.

Umm, no they aren't.

Apparently they are from the tone of your post -- clearly a team on the rise. Team tore it up down the strecth last year, and while theat often means little, when you are loaded with young talent i can also be the start of something. Howard is an absolute stud in the making. Grant Hill is back (for a while), Hedo, Jameer Nelson quietly burst onto the scene last year as a high qaulity starting PG, the Darko experiment is promising, and in the meantime Battie is a solid companion next to Howard. They've got a great young big, a good young PG, post play, shooters. They may end up being too good to even be a "darkhorse". Only thing holding them back is youth.

That's actually more than a little scary.

The Bulls will definitely be a contender this year. A friend of mine from the midwest has been telling me that since the end of last season, he's no homer either.

Streaky = US.

We're a jump shooting team. That is about as streaky as you can get.

Orlando has jump shooters, a post player that's utilized, slashers ... they have the whole package.

Friend of mine has been carping on them for over a year now saying they're the next team to come out of the east when the Heat have turned to dust in the wind.

Yeah the whole package except experience. Just because you have all the ingredients does not mean you know how to cook.

I give 'em at least 2 years before they can make it to the finals. I'm not saying they will though.
