Kings/Bucks Idea

With Redd going down for the season, some have suggested that we might try to make a trade with the Bucks, with Salmons the obvious guy to move. Here's one way to do it:

Kings Trade:
John Salmons ($5.1M, 1.5 seasons remaining + 1 yr. ETO)

Bucks Trade:
Damon Jones ($4.46M, 0.5 seasons remaining)
Luc Richard Mbah A Moute ($575K, 1.5 seasons + 1 season not guaranteed)
2009 1st round draft pick (lottery protected 2009, top-10 protected 2010, unprotected 2011)

Salaries are almost dead on - Bucks gain a little over $50K but that extra money does not bump them over the Salary Tax.

Why the Kings do it: Salmons is not in the long-term plans, and this would presumably open up some time for Donté Greene. Jones is expiring so he's no concern, and Mbah A Moute is a nice young energy player who can swing between the 3 and the 4. Presuming Miller is traded and Moore is let go, Mbah A Moute could be an integral bencher at the 4 for the next few years.

Why the Kings don't do it: ??? I can't see a downside.

Why the Bucks do it: Redd is out for the season, and with the double ACL/MCL tear there's always the chance he'll never be the same player again. Salmons is an inexpensive replacement who can fill Redd's scoring role for the next two seasons. Moving Mbah A Moute may give them some time to develop lottery pick Alexander, who shouldn't be stuck behind a second-rounder much longer. Bogut/Villanueva/Gadzuric/Elson can man the front line without Mbah A Moute being missed. With Redd out, it's either trade now for a replacement or tank the season, and with this year's draft, it's not exactly the year to tank.

Why the Bucks don't do it: Mbah A Moute has been playing well for them, and is cheap for a while. They'd hate to give him up. But the return is probably good enough to let him go.

I don't think the Bucks will trade Mbah a Moute; however, I think they are looking to trade Sessions and/or Villanueva. I really think we should just switch Sessions with Mbah a Moute.

While I'd be perfectly happy to see Sessions instead of Mbah A Moute, I don't particularly get the impression that they're looking to trade Sessions. The kid is just an assists machine and I don't imagine they're planning to have Ridnour start forever. I don't think they particularly want to part with Mbah A Moute either, but they have to give up something if they want to stay in the East race this year.

Giving up too much? Really? Seems like a lot of people around here are willing to package Salmons with Miller to get at best one pick back, just to get rid of him. This seems to me to be a good P&K scenario. Sure, I'd take Sessions, but I think this is more realistic.

Ultimately if we had the choice between Sessions and Mbah A Moute a lot would come down to who we end up with in the draft...but that's foresight we don't have. Since we're theoretically leaning PG, I think Mbah A Moute's the better bet right now.

There's no way they give up Sessions. He's too young, cheap and good. A Moute might be a possibility, I would be for it. I also don't think MIL gives up a pick just for Salmons...

ill take either one w/a draft pick. its perfect. They get a large 2 guard at a time when they desperately need some scoring and to fight for the playoffs. Supposing they will land in the late teens for a 1st round pick, its not THAT crazy to say that we could get one of the kids and a 1st.

Salmons is playing his best ball in his career; fg percentages are at an all time high when they want someone to replace redd's shooting. When Redd comes back, they should be able to find 25-30 minutes for salmons at the 2 or 3. Not that Salmons would be happy about that, but it's not a concern for us at that point.

Git'r done.

I have been following Milwaukee lately, and I think they are looking to trade Sessions because he is an expiring and they don't want to pay him or Villanueva next year. That is why he wanted to trade Sessions for Conley, because Conley is locked in for a few years.

I also don't think that Skiles likes Sessions because he is not a great defender. Statistically he puts up much better stats when he starts vs Ridnour.

Both Sessions and Villanueva will be RFA this off-season rather than just expirings. I don't think the Bucks are looking at signing neither of the players this summer but rather expect to be only able to sign one and stay below the payroll tax limit. Given the choice between keeping Sessions or Villanueva, I would think they would lean to keeping Villanueva.

IMHO, I think Sessions might be more available than Mbah A Moute. I also think with the economy the way it is, the Bucks might be more financially motivated to stay in the playoff chase. As far as the pick goes, since Sessions is a RFA and there is a chance to lose him for nothing it becomes the deal breaker. At the very least, there would have to be the right to switch picks between theirs and Houston's first.
