Let's just assume the guy(s) we'd really like to draft aren't there at 10...

Kings deal:
Kenny Thomas
#10 pick

Bobcats deal:
#22

I don't think there's enough benefit from freeing up $7 million in salary to justify such a steep drop in a very top-heavy draft.

But.

IF, and if it's a big if, they have a trade in place to send Bibby to Atlanta for cap relief, and you combine these two moves to create approx. $18-20 million in cap room, then I might think about it. Go after two out of Mo Williams, Gerald Wallace and/or Darko, possibly steal Amir Johnson away from Detroit. Or maybe go after Shawn Marion or Garnett by offering cap relief. Then you have yourself a better nucleus than you would have had with just the #10 pick.

But just $7 million isn't going to be enough. So it's either a terrible trade or a good trade depending on what you follow it up with.

im all for getting darko... we cant get wallace though he'd be perfect....

Even if we kept the rest of the team intact we could potentially go after wallace with a starting salar of 7 million for 5 years. That'd be around 5 years 42 million I believe...We could play Artest/Wallace as our forward duo. Still get a draft pick at #22 maybe get a guy like Splitter then or something. It' a VERY deep draft and so I don't think it's that far a drop off like in most years.

C: Brad MIller, Tiago Splitter, Justin Williams
PF: Ron Artest, Shareef Abdur-Rahim
SF: Gerald Wallace, Francisco Garcia
SG: Kevin Martin, John Salmons, Quincy Douby
PG: Mike Bibby, Ronnie Price

Or maybe expand the trade to include Wallace in a SnT? Perhaps.

im all for getting darko...
I am in this camp as well.

He will get better. He is still finding his feet and he will break out in the next season or two.

Whats more interesting, he is a Petrie type player. He it tall, athletic, has great vision of the court and passign skills for a big man. He is a decent rebounder (this part of his game will get better), has range on his jumper, has post moves and he is a genuine shot blocker.

Yeah he is not a leader and many might think he is a softy but put him up with a tough player at PF or C and you have a great front court going forward.

He is one FA I would make a strong play for.

We had our chance with Wallace and should have not protected Webber. They wouldn't have wanted his big contract even though he was quite the player back then. It hurts to see Wallace do good now, almost as much as to think of the other supporting cast we had back then...we were a nice deep team back then...hopefully we can be that again in the not so distant future. ;)

I agree.

We protected ANTHONY FREAKING PEELER instead of Wallace, WHY I don't know.

No we didn't. He wasn't eligible to be protected.

There are some who think we shouldn't have granted Peeler a player option, there are some (like me) who think this is much ado about nothing and wish this weren't treated like some horrendous event.

One Question...Why would any team in the whole league want K9?

He can still play in this league, but he is a 3-4million a year bench power forward that can defend smaller guys and get rebounds. Different type of player, but think Darius Songalia level of talent. He'll never be a starter for a good team.

The only way he is traded is in a package. Our only other option is to negotiate a buyout where he assumes he can resign somewhere and make up the difference. I'm hoping for either.

Any chance we could get Felton and some filler for Bibby?

I really like the kids game, similar to Deron Williams.

I'm thinking the Bobcats need veteran leadership plus they have the space to eat Mike's salary. Also, we would benefit with a quick pass-first PG.

Gerald Wallace wanted out of Sactown. His agent begged Petrie to let him go to the Bobcats and Petrie did the right thing. GW would have left via FA anyway, so either way he was a goner. Nbrans is right. This isn't some horrendous mistake. If a player doesn't want to be here, you're better off letting him go.

Doubt it. They drafted Felton partly because he's a local boy (the UNC connection). They still think that given time, Felton can be a big local celebrity who bring fans in.

Then I guess my memory fails me...who were the 8 we protected?

Vlade
Chris
Peja
Doug
Bibby
BJax
Brad?

It was seven guys. Webber, Peja, Songaila, Doug, Bibby, BJax and Brad. Vlade was a free agent and Peeler had a player option. You had to leave one guy unprotected, so they chose Wallace.

Getting rid of Kenny is a low level objective. Not worth dropping even one spot in the draft given our already tenuous position. If we simply buy him out at this point its no huge sweat for me. Hurt our cap position of course, but put it behind us and move on.

I'm pretty sure the league allows you to protect 8 players, and you're right, Vlade was a free agent and couldn't be "protected".
