Kings at Jazz 11/21/2010, 6PM

It's not about "playing that game". It's the reality of the situation.

You keep using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means...

Quit being disingenuous and using "reality" as if "accepting reality" requires to figuratively embrace the Dark Side. You are aware that "reality" does not equal pessimism, right? That you can accept reality and still have a positive outlook, right?

Are you aware that being realistic doesn't equal pessimism? Anyone who thinks this team is winning more than 30 games tops is drinking some serious Kool-Aid and might as well be living in fantasy land.

Meh, Rick couldnt take the stink off this turd of a roster. His Rockets have a worse record than the Kings btw.

True, I doubt Phil Jackson could help this bunch much this year. That doesn't change the fact that firing Adelmen was a major blunder, though.

Can someone explain to me WTF happened to the offense? Why is Landry just chucking up jumpshots, spinning into double teams?? Why does our offense consist of mindless dribbling for 8 seconds, passing it to Tyreke then forcing up a shot?? How about the well designed running-back like handoff to our point guards which gets us nowhere because there is another player in the vicinity where the ball is being handed off...

Landry is allergic to passing. I like the guy but his flat out refusal to pass the ball is really annoying me lately.

This offense you speak of, the one which supposedly something happened to, is it somehow related to the 2010-2011 Sacramento Kings?

I have no answers there. I watch teh games closely, I take notes, and other than 1 or 2 halves, not games but just halves, I have never had any idea what we were trying to do this season. I don't undertand what happened over the summer. The offense last season was not great, but compared to this it was genius. And then we bring back most of the same guys and yet come back off the summer and replace it with something the 7th grade P.E. teacher drew up?

How do you define "thrown away?"

How do you think I define thrown away? We had a chance to start out strong with an easy schedule and playing at home, it didn't happen and now the schedule gets tougher and we had a chance to progress and maybe go over .500. There's more than enough talent on this team for over .500, sure they're young but other young teams make progress. I don't want to waste money on going to games where the team cant score over 80 points and loses 50+ games. That's no fun and a waste of money. Many other people feel the same way. It's easy for you to act like it's all nice and cool if these young guys just screw around and play garbage and say they're getting experience, but I don't see them getting any better and we have so many of them they don't even consistently get to play. If this team doesn't make a sharp turnaround soon, and they win only 20 games, this is definitely a season thrown away.

This statement does not refute my previous post. Even if you don't think that the team is going to win more than thirty games, you can still have a positive outlook, so to say that people who maintain optimism are living in fantasy land, which is what you have been doing, is pejorative.

Don't be pejorative.

Dude eventually you go from being a rebuilding team to being the clippers. We're pretty close to being there.

OMG you're so pessimistic and negative, hehe. Stop, you're bringing us all down by acknowledging reality like that. Fetch the rose colored glasses, bury your head in the sand, and pretend that everything is OK and that they've made improvement and that this year isn't already a disaster, lol.

I'm glad the Jazz announcers specifically called out Westphal for the horrific lack of offensive system. It seems like we are so under the radar that nobody talks about stuff that should be talked about and fixed asap. It may be unpleasant to hear how bad we suck but unless we come to terms with the fact that we have a problem, that problem will never be fixed.

I can probably name off all the King's offensive set plays..

1-4 Flat ( Tyreke Iso)
Guard-Forward Dribble Handoff
4-4 Flat (Landry Iso)
Some player parking in opposite corners waiting for cross court pass for short three
Garcia Curl
??? Anything else

Spacing is bad, quality of pass is bad, everyone looks confused on offense, no one knows where to be, everyone trying to do too much by themselves...

There's nothing that needs refuting as far as I can see. I do not agree that people should try and be positive. I also don't think anyone should try and be negative. Each individual should approach it from their own perspective and arrive at their own conclusions. If you can find positives right now, great, more power to you. But don't expect everyone to see the same positives that you do because not everyone has the same expectations. I expected this team to take advantage of a soft November schedule and at least be hovering around 500 at this point. A lot of people expected that and now that it hasn't happened, we're naturally very disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, there's still plenty of time left considering there's still 69 games left to play. But they'd have to make a sharp turnaround, and they need some veterans to show them what to do and how to execute in the NBA. I mean just because it looks like there's no plays or plan from the coach doesn't mean that's true. For example, a few years ago I played in a rec league when I was in HS. We had some plays but our team sucked, everyone wanted to shoot, and we didn't run our plays correctly. I was the only player who would actually pass the ball, and a lot of times our team didn't set the correct screen or we struggled to make the correct reads. Basically, we sucked. Our coach had us go over the plays multiple times in practice, but because of certain players and our limitations we never got better at running them. Our coach had only a few plays for us, but if we had been a better team we would've ran them correctly and they'd have worked. I don't buy that Westphal, an NBA coach, doesn't have a playbook or a system when he's coached a team to the finals before and he's got the inventor of the PRinceton O sitting on his bench. It is simply more likely that with all the young guys on the team who want to "get theirs" that they aren't running the plays correctly or calling plays, and people aren't getting into their spots at the right time.

Yeah but the schedule gets so much tougher. There's no more 8 out of 9 at home stretches with mostly bad teams coming through. They've yet to play Boston, Miami, Orlando, Dallas, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Portland, Atlanta, etc. unless they get their S together, like, right now, we're in store for an ugly next few months.

If we put Whiteside on the roster in place of Jackson that will put us pretty much exactly the active roster we should have had coming out of camp limiting Westphal to core players and future potential to play in games.

We have 2 major issues on defense:
1. Our offense sucks so much that we get beat on the break....Alot.
2. We haven't developed and worked on our guys enough to know switch assignments and to trust their teamates are going to close out to shooters and such. This means that we are leaving shooters and then low presences open if the opposing team makes any sort of ball movement at all.

Right now our offense is 1 on 1-5s we get one of our offensive players the ball and let them go to the hoop which more often then not results in a turnover as they dribble into traffic an offensive foul or a blocked/horrid shot. We need some basic offensive teamwork plays.

We Need an Offensive Playbook. Would Rick do a better job as couch I dunno but we would likely have at least the Pick and Roll down at this point.

Now its almost to the point of making 2 balanced squads of our rosters and do complete lineup swaps (Just make them all play as hard as they can for 24 min a game. Sprinting up the court after every rebound and so on) this way each player will get to know the tendencies in practice of the other 4 guys they play with.

I didn't say anything related to that. Don't put words in my mouth. I said we don't have good draft luck, and this yar will be a weak draft. I said absolutely nothing related to our final record, or where we will draft. pee off.

My, you get your panties in a twist awfully easy. My question is, if you didn't disagree with my prediction of the final record, then what in sam hell are you even disagreeing with me about?

Those positive predictions were probably made thinking Tyreke Evans would be healthy. The way this offense is built and the sets they run are built on Tyreke being dominant like he was last year. He can barely get around people this year and I haven't even seen him change directions mid-drive at all this year. They need to sit him and get him healthy.

It has nothing (or very little) to do with Tyreke not being healthy. Maybe he's only 80% instead of 100% but he's still playing 37 minutes a game and putting up 20-5-5. The team as a whole just sucks.

This suggests to me that your expectations may not have been realistic. It's all well and to the good that you thought this team would get to .500 this season, but teams built around a young core rarely develop that quickly. Perhaps you thought we'd have an "overnight" turnaround, like the 2003-04 Nuggets, but those results are far from typical. In most cases, for teams built around a young nucleus, it takes between 2-4 seasons, just to get to .500.

To me, the season has only been thrown away if the kids aren't better at the end of the season than they were at the end of last season. And, while they're not better right now, I'm not prepared to say, thirteen games in, that they're not going to be better by April. So, no, I'm not prepared to say that the season's been thrown away just yet.

Yet another game that put me to sleep and made me want to punch holes all over the walls. What exactly do we run out there? I wish the coach knew. God awful offense to watch, It's so bad that it gets to the point where it's depressing just to watch. I force myself to watch because I think maybe something will happen, but same ol' lazy, slow, iso, selfish basketball. That's all I really care to share about this one, you can only play defense so much. It does not matter though if you can't score the ball and you can't expect to stop them everytime down the floor.
