[News] Kings and Schroder agree on three year 45 million dollar contract. No sign and trade

I’m hoping that Devin averages 40 in summer league and Scott changes his mind on him (if it needs to be changed)
To be honest I’m more interested in watching Devin, Clifford and Raynaud in summer league than our team of 30 year old vets in the regular season. They are not going to improve much. They are going to win just enough to make the play-in. There really is nothing to hold on to or care about.

So if they did deal Monk that would essentially leave the bench as:

Carter
Keon
Nique
IJ
Reynaud

And all your vets with Keegan in the starting 5

Dennis
LaVine
DDR
Keegan
Domas

I could get behind that. IF, that means you commit to the youth off the bench as the main rotation pieces and see what you have there. That's not a competitive team, but if you're able to spend next season accomplishing a lot of real homework on the youth of this team and who might be a true long-term fit, that at least makes next season productive. That probably gets you the 7th or 8th pick with getting DDR off the books and LaVine will then be an expiring.

Look- I don't love Schroder at 3/45. But this is evidence that Perry isn't a lightweight. He wanted to trade Monk to Detroit and get real assets and Detroit obviously said no. They wanted it to be Schroder for Monk straight up. So Perry called their bluff, dumped JV, signed Schroder without a sign and trade, and held Monk for a different trade.

Like I said, I don't love the Schroder signing in a vacuum. But Perry identified a guy he wanted, and got him on the terms he wanted him. When another team pushed back, Perry found his own way. He might suck as a roster builder and talent evaluator (time will tell) but at least this gives me hope that our GM isn't a pushover.
I’m here for it and there’s nothing egregious about this contract IMO. Schröder is a moveable asset as well as someone that can contribute depending on how our roster shapes up and how he will fit.

If it keeps LaVine healthy, I'm okay with less than stellar defense from him. Luka plays zero defense, but he is spectacular on offense.

Now we need to surround LaVine with defensive players to make this thing work out. LaVine is a special and very efficient scorer, let him score and surround him with defense.
How many games did LaVine and Sabonis even play together? I’m much more intrigued about that fit than DDR. That’s the guy that can go - i wanna see what LaVine can do with a full training camp and HEALTHY MVP candidate in Sabonis.

@carmichaeldave is a hot little potato over this and so am I. I can’t think of a signing im less excited about in Kings history than this one. That’s before you consider we overpaid and gave too many years.

Over-exaggerated Sigh
It’s literally just the standard MLE deal. Not like we gave him huge additional money.

I'll take any win we can get.

I'm not enamored by the signing, but I'm not disgruntled either. I would have been had the acquisition of DS come at the cost of Malik Monk.

Since that didn't happen, I'm no longer on red alert.

This team did need a pure PG. And Dennis Schröder is better than Russell Westbrick, that's for sure.

It looks like a back end of the lottery, waste of time to me. Just a rinse and repeat of the Cousins days.

The young player development will be decent but the ability to acquire talent will be hamstrung.

I've been saying for years that Kings fans don't have what it takes to get the rebuild they claim they want and it seems pretty clear we're heading in that direction right now and the groans have already begun for the minor moves.

Jesus we want a rebuild not Dennis Schroeder starting over Carter and not resigning Ellis.. if the front office got its way we’d have Westbrook in here too. Exactly what rebuilding team or fan base wants a backcourt of Schroeder and Westbrook

Matt doesn’t even know what he’s talking about half the time, though i find him to be pretty cool more often than not. He doesn’t seem very plugged in, let alone aware of what Scott Perry is thinking. I think DDR will be the next one traded, to be honest.

I honestly can't believe anybody pays attention to these local pundits. I stopped listening and reading a long while ago.

Morgan and Deuce are the only ones I occasionally pay attention to and even they have their ups and downs.

Wake up we’re not getting the 9th seed sorry ass Schroeder doesn’t move the needle he’s just blocking Carter from starting

Houston
Dallas
San Antonio
OKC
Minnesota
LAL
GSW
Denver
LAC

That’s nine teams clearly better than us right now
You can add Memphis to that list as well imo. They've had a solid off-season and still have a ton of picks.
Edey/Clarke
JJ/Aldama
Wells/GG/Coward
KCP/Jerome
Morant/Pippen Jr

That team is 100% better than the kings barring injuries.

Can't have your cake and eat it too. DDR on this team is totally incompatible with Keegan's development. Christie will defer. Keegan will defer. And DDR will "do his thing." Secondarily, the same goes for LaVine and Ellis. They can't go half-ass on this. Clean up the mess and go forward. The fans will be supportive if they can see a direction rather than a sewer mess.

Haha big three Sabonis/Lavine/Derozan lead by Schroeder running point opponents are shaking in there boots. Oh and don’t forget the 42nd pick hilarious

Was just putting teams people can’t argue with cause Memphis and Portland are better then us too

So we add Dennis and Dario and two rookies, loose Jonas and Jake and we are somehow better than last year?

How has our defense improved at all?
I think our defense is improved from last year, but it's not necessarily a significant boost we wanted.
Jval is not a defender, so adding assuming Maxime/Jones play, that's a minor upgrade
Schroder is without a doubt a better defender than Monk
Nique presents some size and defense to guard multiple positions.

Until at least 2 of Demar/LaVine/Sabonis are gone, we won't be making a significant defensive boost. You cant start 3 non defenders (even if Sabonis is better than he gets credit for) and expect to field a good defense.

I'd say if Zion stays healthy I'd put New Orleans as better as well. Assuming Dejounte comes back around the 1st of the year.
Missi/Looney
Zion/Queen
Murphy/Bey
Herb/Poole
Dejounte/Fears/Alvarado

I'd say 10 teams clearly better barring injuries. And we are fighting Portland, New Orleans, Phx for 11-14.

If Carter was the only rookie on a bad team you can probably get away with starting him at PG but we have 3-4 other guys we're trying to develop. Presumably they want to implement some type of system and build around it not just hope we get a franchise guy who dictates the entire system from scratch in some future lotto that may never pan out.

Let's complain if Carter is getting under 5mpg, I think he'll get plenty of opportunity even with Schröder here.

NO might win five games against us again who does Lavine/DDR defend in that lineup

Doesn't sound like Perry wants to. For whatever reason.

That's the only silver lining I can see with this current core. We're kind of sneakily cleaning out the older vets off the bench and now all our youth (right now at least) is being thrust into actual rotation roles. Lyles gone, JV gone, LaRavia gone, Monk is probably gone. So, can

Carter
Keon
Nique
IJ
Reynaud
Keegan

around

Dennis
LaVine
DDR
Domas

Make any noise? Probably not, but IF that's our top 10 next season, at the very least we get real information on what the youth can be. Along with a likely top 10 pick, can buy-out DDR and LaVine is an expiring.

It's not a great path, but I think with what we're dealt, that's the direction I would go. Assuming of course that DDR has no actual market, as being reported.
