Look- I don't love Schroder at 3/45. But this is evidence that Perry isn't a lightweight. He wanted to trade Monk to Detroit and get real assets and Detroit obviously said no. They wanted it to be Schroder for Monk straight up. So Perry called their bluff, dumped JV, signed Schroder without a sign and trade, and held Monk for a different trade.
Like I said, I don't love the Schroder signing in a vacuum. But Perry identified a guy he wanted, and got him on the terms he wanted him. When another team pushed back, Perry found his own way. He might suck as a roster builder and talent evaluator (time will tell) but at least this gives me hope that our GM isn't a pushover.
