How does that work though? I assume the cash had to be less than his salary, or the Clippers would just waive him, and if not, why would we do it?
They're paying luxury tax on his salary, so even if they paid his entire salary they would still save money. There was also the hard cap and roster spot issue.

Right, so my point is I view it more as a salary dump issue because if all they wanted to do was clear a roster spot they could have done it in other ways. Which is not what it sounded like from this line in the article "The Clippers wanted to clear a roster spot and the Kings gladly obliged by taking on Kabengele -- who has played a grand total of 158 minutes in two NBA seasons -- picking up some cold, hard cash for their troubles."
