NEW YORK, March 5, 2007 – The Boston Celtics’ Al Jefferson and the Sacramento Kings’ Kevin Martin today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Feb. 26 through Sunday, March 4.

Here is a closer look at the week for Jefferson and Martin:

March 2 at L.A. Lakers: Registered 20 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 116-108 win over the Lakers.
March 3 at Portland: Tallied 33 points, six rebounds and matched a career high with six assists in a 104-96 win over the Trail Blazers. Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Chicago’s Ben Gordon, Cleveland’s LeBron James, Dallas’ Jason Terry, Detroit’s Tayshaun Prince, Miami’s Shaquille O’Neal, New York’s Stephon Marbury, Philadelphia’s Andre Iguodala, San Antonio’s Tim Duncan and Seattle’s Rashard Lewis.

Well, at least there's something about this current winning streak that I can be unequivically excited about. Congrats Kevin! You deserved it!

well i believe thats one more thing he can scratch off his list that he has in his shoe...he deserves it, he has been truly outstanding.

Youth was served this week in both conferences.

BTW, pretty sure there are always two Players of the Week -- one for each conference -- so Kevin isn't really "co" player of the week, he's the player of the week in the Western Conference, which is as good as you can do.

Best part of this one is that it was apparently something he set out to accomplish, and then he got it. Not just a hot streak against some shaky teams, but an INTENTIONAL goal he pursued before the week began.

"Martin said. "My goal was to lead our team to 5-0 (this week), to get back on track and (earn) my first Player of the Week (award).""

CONGRATULATIONS KEVIN!!!!!

Way to achieve your goal!:D

When you consider how many players there are in the Western Conference, what an accomplishment this is for Kevin.

WTG, young man. You make us all very proud.
