Exhibit 1: The 2008-2009 New York Knicks; without Thomas, they would not be where they are now(sounds more obvious than it is). Zeke debilitated the franchise to the point where they had no other choice but to succeed. For all the bad blood that Isiah spilled in NY, his old team is playing themselves into playoff contention. Zeke gets credit for some of that.
Exhibit 2: Kevin Garnett, MVP, NBA Champion. We all knew what they meant when announcers called KG "The Big Ticket". It meant he was going to win a championship for someone. Kevin Mchale techinically contributed more to the Celtics than most of their roster. Mchale also is doing a fine job of debilitating his franchise to the point where next season might get interesting. McHale gets credit for some of this.
Exhibit 3: Geoff Petrie(Simple Jack) going full tard.

This is not a Fire Petrie thread, it is a who is better at their job than who thread. thanks
 
Kevin McHale is a freaking joke - both as a GM and now as a coach. Let's get real, okay?

The whole premise of this thread isn't much different than the Fire Petrie thread, IMHO. Bringing Isaiah Thomas and Kevin McHale into the discussion doesn't really change anything.
 
McHale serves a function. That Function helped the Celtics win a championship. If you know you aren't going to win the championship, wouldn't you do the same thing. I think McHale deserves alot of credit, not just from New England. I actually beleive in McHales abilities as a GM. And if the kings were to aquire him, as coach or GM, i wouldn't be against it because he can't screw up 3 consecutive draft days.(or 4 years in a row)
 
Um, you do realize Danny Ainge is the one responsible for the Boston revivial, right? Kevin McHale - as the GM of the Timberwolves - was a mere pawn in the whole scenario. Garnett truly wanted a trade; all McHale did was agree to something he really had no choice in anyway...

I liked the equation where McHale=a pawn.That may have validity. The whole idea of McHale being solely responsible for Bostons good fortune, is not my point. It was that he did positively impact another teams chances to the point where they were able to convert the opportunity. Without McHale, non of which would be possible. He is a pawn, but if you play chess, you might understand how valuable pawns may be. Being that, McHale is arguably not only the most important man in Minnesota, but also a very valuable gm who worked with/for Boston. My point is he helped get the job done for someone. ON the other hand, Petrie is not. Whom is better at their job?

That seems to be a rather useless point. I don't see how anyone could even try to argue the point of McHale being better or more useful then GP.

You are right as well. Which is part of my greater point. The more one debilitates one's franchise, the brighter the future becomes for one's franchise. Petrie albeit, possesses a talent that he has been known to exercise, the talent of being GM. He is decent at this. But, the way things have worked for him are not so decent. Somewhere along the line, McHale's franchise, the T'wolves, passed the kings, New york too. Is Petrie a better GM now? YES, and NO!

2. For whatever reason - or lack thereof - you seem to feel there is some validity or even sense to your comments. I disagree.

3. I'm moving this thread to the NBA forum, primarily because we don't have a forum specifically entitled "Threads that make sense only to the OP."

Petrie is helping get the job done in:

Atlanta (Bibby)
New Orleans (Peja who came from IND, but wouldn't have happened without Petrie, right? :rolleyes:)

Philly (Webb which cleared cap space for Brand...)

Houston (Artest..)

The list goes on..
