Monday, April 14, 2008: In honor of one of the NBA’s all-time greats, the Sacramento Kings continue to honor the legacy of Oscar Robertson, both on and off the court, by awarding the 2008 Oscar Robertson Triple-Double Award to Kevin Martin.
For the past five years, this award has been presented to the deserving Kings player who exemplifies certain characteristics both on and off the court. The triple signifies on the court accomplishments: he is a team leader, embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and plays an outstanding all-around game. The double signifies off the court leadership by showing commitment to community service and family.

Congrats Kevin, you deserve it. You're always the bright spot of the Kings and you just keep improving each year. You're a great example, good job :)

Congrats Kevin. I'm really glad you're a King and a part of Sacramento

Kevin deserves the award. He's a fine young man and I'm proud to have him on the Sacramento Kings. Congratulations, Kevin. :)

Now, I'm a disciple of the Church of Kevin Martin as much as anybody, but...

Did I miss something here? :o

I think the award should have gone to Garcia. He fits the description better (team leader, all-around game, etc)

I don't know. I like Garcia, but Martin is a workhorse and has put in a tremendous amount of effort to get where he is. Not saying Garcia didn't work hard, but Martin has worked the hardest in the OS. Hard work deserves to be rewarded, especially when he's shown such improvement over the last 3 seasons.

Well, this would be ironic given the multi-dimensionality of the Big Os game vs. Kevin's relatively one dimensional approach, but if I understand correctly its pretty much more of a clean cut representing the franchise/character type award than a basketball one, which would make this an obvious choice.

You are correct. It's for on and of the court and is very much about character.

(I think Garcia will certainly have a shot at this award, if he stays with the Kings.)

Kevin Martin's all round game improved this season by all measures. I like that Coach Theus benched him during a couple of games when he wasn't performing up to a desired level on defense. Rather than sulk endlessly over it he seemed to work harder on his D and communicate better with Reggie as the year went along in a sign of professional maturity. I hope as his big lucrative contract now begins to kick in he doesn't get a big head - which seems unlikely. #23 was my fave Kings player on and off the court before the season began and still is. Congratulations and GO KINGS!

Congrats Kev, keep it up. Really deserved this award. Anyone else think Brad miller could have been in line to win it - he does fit the award description and his turn around from last season has been amazing

Props to Kevin Martin to win the award named after my screen name. Oscar Robertson used to AVERAGE triple doubles before that statistic was officially kept. Whether you were a Kings/Royals fan or not, you had to appreciate Oscar and his awesome all-around skills.
