Kenny Thomas

Little time for Thomas – The inevitable part about being part of a logjam? Someone's going to wind up in the woodchipper.
With the Kings overloaded with big men but underwhelmed by their production, forward Kenny Thomas held his starting job for just two games to begin this season. He was the first option long enough to mostly watch blowout losses at New Orleans and San Antonio (15 and 12 minutes, respectively), then fade into a minimal role off the bench that has left him reaching for the rose-colored glasses.
"Just having an opportunity to play in the NBA is great," said Thomas, who missed three games with a right shin contusion. "There's not too much I can say. I just have to wait for my opportunity, just basically leave it in God's hands. When I go out there, I just have to go get all the rebounds I can and focus on every aspect out there on the floor."
Not that playing here and there – when at all – does much for Thomas' rhythm. He entered Friday's game averaging 16.4 minutes and 4.1 rebounds, career lows by a long shot if the nine-year veteran's season ended then.
"Coach is playing people, and you just have to be professional and accept it," Thomas said. "Of course I want to play. Who doesn't want to play? I feel like I could help. The way that I am going to help if I'm not in is cheering on the sideline, helping my teammates, just being a positive person around everybody else."

This is interesting because, in years past He would have become a cancer. Maybe this is proof that Theus' presence is a stabilizer.

Hell is officially frozen over

KT said that? OMG. Hell has frozen over, yes.

I agree that this is a direct reflection of the Theus influence. This kind of team-first-whatever-I-can-do-for-the-team approach is a key way get cohesive on the court--and off the court.

I was struck by the way the Suns's bench--starters most of them--were wildly standing up and having fun on the sidelines whooping it up for their rotational teammates when they were making plays against the blown-out Kings. And the Kings bench? Silent and sullen most of the time, it looks like in this game and most games.

Yes, Hell Hath Frozen Over, OFFICIALLY!:D I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would hear Kenny Thomas accept the utter truth that is his best reality with this team: on the bench. Hey, you never know, if he's accepted this so well, he might actually be of some use off that bench...but if not, its all good, too. lol

I agree that there hasn't been a whole lot of cheering (I remember a big play near the end of one game, and Shareef clapped a few times while sitting down) but in their defense, it's hard to whoop it up when your team is getting blown out.

IIRC, Kenny has always said these things. It's just that when he isn't starting, he's garbage (well, back when he consistently gave us 14/9. He's garbage now starting or not) and never tried his best that convinced us that he was a pouty little *****. Talk is cheap.

Yeah, I never saw that in my limited NBA watching experience before. Now I see it happen all the time (Marbury et. al.). Plus, Reggie is growing on me, and I think that the losing is already wearing on him. His interviews sometimes ring with exasperation at the current state of affairs. At least KT isn't compounding the issue by giving him a crappy attitude on top of that suck sandwich.

Oh yeah, at least he doesnt have the same crappy suck attitude he had when we first got Reef and he was pouting and moaning about not starting all the time.:D

Alternately, and far more likely, he has just learned how to say the right thing to the press.

In any case, irrelevant. Kenny is just one of many problems your squad has when you are 4-9, and getting ready to face the Spurs in a game that may well drop you to 4-10.

Hey I like Kenny saying these types of things, whether he means it or not. The positive or negative attitude has to play a role in trades sometimes.

Oh yeah, we're going to definitely lose to SA...hell, I dont think we're going to win another game until probably December 14th at Philly...and even THAT isnt a given because it's on the road. We've got a damn tough road to go through, and losing 11 straight isnt that far fetched...we've got SA, a rejuvenated Warrior team, Rick Adelman's Houston squad, and oh yeah...that Boston team that could win it all this year...just to name a few. So...whether K-9 puts on a cheerleader's outfit and dances with the Royal Court Dancers, it wont make a bit of difference.

I agree with you. I don't think the Kings will win another game until that time (Dec 14th) and they will probably be 4-18 or 4-19. Man, that sure in the hell hurts the pocket book. Its going to be hard to sell Kings tickets. I know many of you want the young kids to play, but would you still be thinking the same way if you had season tickets? I bet you probably wouldn't. Who can afford to be patient and wanting the young kids to develop and at the same time spend $3000+ on season tickets and trying to sell them when they barely can win 20-25 games a season. Certainly, not me.

Dude, they're probably better than the frontline people we have now.

at least it will be entertaining to watch these young guys run up and down the court.

Kenny Thomas never has been bubbly or overly expressive BUT I've also never heard anything about him being any kind of real disruption to the team with an ongoing dour attitude, etc. I've only been to two games so far this year, but it's my impression that Kenny is trying to be a little more encouraging, etc. I've seen him come onto the court as the players come off for time out/commericals and be very supportive.

I may have been very critical of Kenny, but right now his attitude is not one of the main problems this team has.

A bit off the topic of the thread, but we're a different team at home. With 6 of the next 7 at Arco, I figure we'll probably sneak away with a couple of them somewhere in there. Maybe catch one of the better teams with an injury or on a back to back or some such. And the Clippers and Milwaulkee are doable. Thsi will of course be followed by various voluble claims that we have turned the corner, that Reggie has he team on the way up, that we are a dangerous team, and just you wait for our playoff run.

And that will, of course, be inevitably followed by the wringing of hands and wails of despair when the team settles back into the big pool of mediocrity we're going to be wallowing in for the majority of the season.

Its not entertaining. To be honest, its rather frustrating. There is no ball movement and too much one-on-one. Is that exciting for you?

more entertaining than our beloved KT missing layups? absolutely! ;) rookies/young players go through a learning curve. i'd rather watch young jwill throw errant passes into the stands than watching a boring vet team struggle to gather wins even against the nba's bottom dwellers.

The difference being that the latter is the reality of the situation.

Exactly. That's why I - usually the harbinger of sunshine and bluebirds of happiness - am continuing with my "lower expectations" for the season while enjoying each moment of the journey. I had fun at the two games I was lucky enough to attend and I suspect I'll enjoy any of the remaining games I'm able to get to. There is a lot of learning for the team to do, but there's also a lot of exciting basketball going on. It's almost like a good college team right now, and that's enough for me.

:)
