Kenny Thomas for Juwan Howard?

... Believe it or not, I really was offended that someone would jokingly reinforce executing a real person, and apparently I'm not the only one. In fact, this isn't the first time I've responded to someone making a "death" joke about an NBA player on this board.

Is it "amazing" to you that another member of this board also found it "disgusting"? I'm sorry I never realized that "taking someone out back and shooting him" and applying for "Old Yeller trade exemptions" are common colloquial expressions in the English language.
ESL I take it? Or maybe you've just never read and/or seen Old Yeller. It *is* a pop culture reference, and the fact that you're unfamiliar with it doesn't mean that the person who said it should be chastised for it.

Somebody made a joke. You didn't get it. Move on. Or keep crying about it, I won't lose sleep either way.

Now, everybody get this thread back on topic, or I swear I'll crack all your ****ing skulls open¹.

¹ - Special notice for kingkung: I won't literally crack anybody's skull open... unless they ask nicely.

Slim, sweetie, would you be a dear and crack my skull open? I've got no intention of getting this (or any other) thread back on track.

Plus, it just might cure my wicked headache.

Thanks!

I tell you what, soft or not, Howard would be at least as productive coming off the bench as Thomas is, and he almost certainly wouldn't be as much of a jackass about not starting. Plus, Houston fans have always had a hardon for ex-Rockets, so they'd take him back in a heartbeat; hell, half of them still want Maxwell back...

Not only that, but he makes less money, AND his contract expires sooner.

I thought GP said that the pieces he aquired from the Webber trade will allow the Kings to make moves with much more flexibility...

Um, I know what Old Yeller is. Just didn't think Kenny Thomas deserved to be compared to a dog who gets shot in the back of the head.

Maybe I'm being too sensitive. Next time somebody makes a joke about executing one of our players, I'll take it in stride.

I wouldn't mind Juwan Howard off the bench; at least he's "actual sized." The only problem that Howard, like Thomas, has started for most of his career. But, unlike Thomas, I think that Howard would not be a prick about coming off the bench.

He's not a good defender, but he's a solid post option off the bench, and I think that his rebounding numbers might actually look better playing against reserves.
I'm over the Fab-Five. Webber didn't bring any rings, Juwan is 0-for-rings, and neither does Jalen. Don't bring any of these guys back. How about the other two guys? Are either one of them still in the league?
Fab-Five = zero rings

Who gives a **** if they played for the Fab Five? Webber didn't bring back any rings? Guess what, neither has anybody else playing for the Kings, either. What difference does being part of the Fab Five make? What college a player went to and what their college team's nickname was when discussing trade prospects is roughly as relevant as what their jersey number is.

The questions that people should be asking themselves regarding Thomas for Howard are: 1) would Howard be an upgrade over Thomas as a reserve PF (presuming that neither would start), 2) would such a move be financially viable, and 3) would it be in the Kings' best interests to make that move.

Being part of the Fab Five has pee-all to do with it.

Corliss has a ring.

Wennington had a ring, too; I was hoping that I wouldn't have to spell out what I meant, but I guess I overestimated people around here.

What Williamson did elsewhere doesn't count if he doesn't play here. I mean, at least if you had mentioned Maxwell, you'd kinda/sorta have a point.

So does JWill, Bill Wennington, Randy Brown, and Tony f-ing Massenburg, but I do not think that was the point.

Seriously, what is with you people? I wasn't arguing with Slim's point. He said no Kings had a ring, I pointed out that Corliss does. God forbid I dare challenge the almighty Slim or point out inaccuracies in his proclamations.

Actually, that's not what I said: what I said was that no Kings player has brought back a ring, which was a direct response to Oscar's Fab Five comment.

Fine, whatever, that's not what you said...
Oh yes it is. I distinctly said "Webber didn't bring back any rings? Guess what, neither has anybody else playing for the Kings, either." And it was quite clearly a response to Oscar's previous post. You can get mad at me because you didn't understand what I meant if you want to, but the fact that I actually said it cannot be disputed.

Um...ok. But I seriously do not think that was the point.

The original exchange implied that the problem was Webb not bringing any rings to US. Which of course nobody has done. A fair number of ex-Kings have actually gotten rings, albeit only a few as more than roleplayers, and none as the main guy or guys, but the relevance is dubious.

All time gone elsewhere and got a ring team (AFTER playing for the Kings):

C- Bill Wennington
PF- Otis Thorpe, Tony Massenburg
SF- Corliss Williamson
OG- Mitch Richmond
PG- Kenny Smith, JWill, Randy Brown

Off the top of my head. Sure there have been some others I am just missing.

"1. Don't be a jerk. People come here to share their thoughts, joys, frustrations, etc. with other fans. No ONE person has the right to deny them that experience. Intentionally acting rude, insulting, flaming, belittling, name-calling, hateful or insensitive to anyone or their friends, family, etc. is not acceptable."

so does that rule only apply in the kings forum?

Uh, OK you two. Can we maybe get back to the KT getting traded for someone else part? Wishful thinking, I know, but....

Okay, this really has gone far enough. The last 3-4 posts here are obviously beyond the board norms. Especially as a debate over a technicality.

Personally I think the whole "trade KT at any cost" is kind of misguided. Unless there are some big rebuilding plans to wipe off Bibby or Miller's salary the Kings are never going to be meaningfully under the cap, so just giving up KT for nothing doesn't serve much purpose. If the right situation comes along to trade KT for a player better than him (like Magloire) then do it. Otherwise, just make the most of having him on the roster.

can anyone tell me who gave KT this albatross of a contract in the first place? and what the original numbers are? hoopshype has what's remaining.

So are you saying Kenny is the "Evil of two lessers?" :D (Celt exits thread and runs for cover)

Wow... everyone's gone 5150 around here! Anyway, KT is at least a good rebounder, and uses his quickness off the dribble to get to the basket effectively. Does that make up for his attitude? KIND of. The more I think about it, if you can't trade him, you may as well start the guy, play him 30 minutes a game, and be done with it. It's not like we're sending Ed Pinckney, Jim Petersen, or Randy Wittman out there, right?

Ed Pinckney might have been a more useful player. And Petersen played int he Finals as a strong (+ big) roleplayer.

Just sending KT out there because we have no choice is just terrible. No choice but to never win anything? Hardly.
