Keith Smart backtracks on his word..

The headline of the article says "Keith Smart not committed to unveiling opening night starters in preseason finale." This isn't that unusual for teams in situations like the Kings. They're still trying to find the best player for each slot and that's what they should be doing in pre-season.

Way too much emphasis is placed on "starters" IMHO. It's been a source of debate around here for what seems like an eternity - or at least since the end of the glory days. I cannot give proper credit to who said it first (because I don't remember), but it's more important to note who's on the court at the end of the game than at the beginning. Who are the go-to players who can be depended upon to close out a game or make the final push for a win?

BTW, welcome to KF. It's always good to see an long-time lurker take the plunge and join in the fun. :)

I'm sure the players are frustrated, is there any other team in the NBA without a set starting lineup/roatation? It's not that hard, theres 9-11 guys that can play on this team and on most nights we will use 9 or 10, now put them together in ways that make sense.

I'm sure there can be made a case for the ever changing lineup. But that coaching style takes some veteran buy-in and a coach with an unquestioned reputation. This is not a match for this team. Smart would be wiser to choose his horses and go all in for the ride. This approach sounds like bet hedging and platooning. I think he confused his team bonding and family stuff ideals with successful running of the team. It just makes him appear indecisive and not invested in his players.
