Keegan Murray tears UCL in thumb. Out 4-6 weeks

I actually think it is hilarious how wacky Kings fans are in bed 11-12th men. Sorry IJ isn’t carrying a team. At best he can be a role player. Think about the last time we were good. Exclude the Mike brown year because half the western conference was injured. Stars win games in the nba.
This is why I don't care for the talk of trading Sabonis. He's as close to a star as we've had, including Fox. Maybe he's not the star everyone wants, but he's better than whatever we're gonna get back for him in a trade, realistically

It's pretty hard to trade a star one-to-one for another star. The idea of trading Sabonis would be to rebuild the team with more of a defensive focus and with a core group of players who are all around the same age (25 or under). That core group would include Keegan Murray, Keon Ellis, Nique Clifford, Devin Carter, whoever we draft in 2026 (at the moment I'm eying Dash Daniels), and anyone we're able to get from trading Sabonis, DeRozan, LaVine and/or Schröder (if possible), and Monk.

This would be a practical acknowledgement that our timeline to build a winning team with Sabonis as the main star is already compromised by our lack of cap space or tradeable assets. If this current group isn't any better than last year's 40 win squad than we're likely stuck in no man's land as a play-in / late lottery team indefinitely without a big trade. Trading Sabonis this season while he's still close to his prime and can be marketed as a star is the only move we could make which might net us another 25 or under core player -- probably not a star but a defensive role-player and freedom from salary cap hell would be satisfactory to me.

Davion pick. Carter pick. Sabonis free agent year

In all fairness they had Franz Wagner ahead of Davion, lost the coin flip and Davion was next up. In hindsight Jalen Johnson and Trey Murphy would’ve been better picks but they both went mid-late 1st and literally every other pick busted. It seems Monte’s strategy was to make a BPA board and they draft based on that regardless of position.

Carter pick was just a year ago so I think thats still TBD. We don’t know what he’ll turn into, but just looking at the 1st round I don’t see any knockout sure fire quality wings that went after him.

They could easily tanked just a little, lost one more game and gotten Wagner.

There were so many bad decisions in the Monte era. You don’t get this bereft of wings without being spectacularly incompetent. And yes Vivek had a hand in a lot of it but that era was every bit as bad as the Vlade era when you look at where the roster stands now.

To know that 1 more loss was the difference between Wagner and Davion?
To know you needed a higher draft pick to get a good forward. Forwards have gone early for the 5 previous drafts.

Given what OKC has done they are going to go even earlier now. Every team but ours drafts for length.

Start the rebuilding process immediately with Raynaud at the 4. He has the length, mobility and 3 point shot for the position. He may not have the strength for the center position, but he should have enough for the power forward slot. Clifford might be able to play the 4 in small portions, but a dwarf team isn't the sustainable answer for this team and it doesn't help in Clifford's development as a 2G/SF. Clifford should be able to be a 2-3 swing man and help both Keon at the 2G and DDR at the 3. This injury gives both Christie and Perry the "excuse" to go young. Any other option they choose for a few additional meaningless wins would be short-sighted and lame.

The Sacramento Kings draft Davion Mitchell and Devin Carter

The Sacramento Kings draft Maxime Raynaud
How was Raynaud learning to play defense a criticism of our lack of drafting of length? Yes our current GM gets it but Reynaud has a ways to go which is not a surprise for a 2nd Round pick.

Not only that but have you seen me criticize Perry? This years team is horrendous but it’s not Perry’s fault…
