I do agree with that. The Landry signing was just a bad move. I didn't like it then and still don't like it now. If we had to get rid of someone, I'd rather it be Landry and not JT, but I don't see that as a likely scenario.

That sort of implies you want to trade him just to trade him. I don't care that Dallas would do that deal, I would not. Jason is a serviceable big, just maybe not a starter. You get rid of him, who do you replace him with? And that has been the problem, this FO and the last have not been able to bring someone in capable of replacing him. As Slim has said, that's not his fault.
This team has enough holes, why create a new one?

Right now we need our assets, have too many holes.
I think we buy Thompson out on year 3, or trade him next season. No reason to dump assets to move either one unless we get a really talented person who has a large contract, that for whatever reason the other team wants out from, but we want to take.
Maybe we will get lucky in the draft, and get that cheap 4 and it won't be a big deal at all next season.

Reality about what you can get back from Thompson.
You guys read ulterior motive, get off your protective homerisim.
I'm speaking of yields paid back in trade scenarios, nothing more or less.
A neutral analysis similar to if you went to an investment broker and saw what you can do with what you have.
But no, many people can't do that, they jump an emotional gun, they are not capable of it, and read any discussion on value or merit of a player or prospect has to be something else.

Just curious, how exactly does a team trade the actual JT, for a better version of JT?
That seems to be what everyone wants, but if that were so easy they'd have traded him already.
I've yet to see a way to trade him and get a starting PF back without giving up too much. Who becomes the starter if they trade him? Landry? Dwill? Evans? And that's an improvement?

Agree.. JT has lost and then regained his starting position more times than any other player I can remember. It seems they use him off the bench at the start of the year and he always outplays the starters and earns his job back.
He's been jerked around ever since he got her. I don't remember him complaining much about it either. He's a professional and I wish him the best of luck if traded.

Here is a sample of an imaginary improvement.
Williams expires, add in the Thompson contract and we are looking at a 12-13 million capability.
You'd have to find a player that is clogged somewhere else, who needs some help at other positions. Say hypothetical player is really only worth 10 million to most in the open market.
They regroup and don't mind the contract. Similar to what we did with Thornton into two pieces, but yeah to find a quality player that fits the scenario would be tough to do.

I still find that report so hard to believe. If it's true, maybe the players should be worrying more about their own game and how they are performing in front of a crowd of people who are paying to see them give their best effort. They should be so lucky that one of the winningest coaches of all time is actually interested in coaching them and turning them around. To not want a coach like that, because of how he campaigned for the job (still not sure how that's a bad thing), is like some weird form of low basketball IQ.
Anyways, I agree with you that trading JT just creates a bigger problem, unless some unlikely deal involving multiple pieces comes through.

He's under contract. I personally don't care about the camp rumors, true or otherwise. What he wants and what he gets are possibly two different things. Him wanting something doesn't make it a mandate. If a trade is beneficial to the team, I will gladly put something in the thank-you thread that will deservedly be put up. If a trade is not, he can play out his contract that he signed.
Someone else gave several different options that did not include Felton. A couple sounded interesting. Takes two to tango.
Remember when you point a finger, there are three pointing back.
You offered Felton a couple times. With that yield, sometimes it's better just to hold. Is that not an option an investment broker might give?
That probably depends on the topic at hand. I would guess most people have that "something" where they would fall into this category. Some more often than others.

The Kings have been attempting to move Jason for quite some time now, and I'm sure he knows that. Due to the timing of his "request" in relation to the trade deadline in which the Kings have been reported as the most active and aggressive team, I would say that there is a 90% chance that he has played his last game as a Sacramento King. My hope is that our front office will manage to bring in considerable frontcourt help for Demarcus, but if the right deal just doesn't present itself, this team's guard rotation is honestly quite terrible. Ray McCallum nor Ramon Sessions cut it for me, not even as primary backup options, although some may debate that Ray's progress is headed in the right direction. Our bench as constructed ultimately will not allow us to be competitive on a consistent basis no matter whom is coaching us.

No plant here, promise. I really hated JT's game all the way up to last year. However, this past 1.5 years, I feel like he really settled into his role. He's a solid third big, who has the ability to shutdown some talented scoring PF/C. I'd rather trade away Landry and/or DWill, but if JT really wanted out, I hope our FO would grant him his wish. He's been on this roller coaster ride for far too long, albeit paid quite handsomely. Let him experience a winning culture.

Yes, I read your replies. I am not questioning your motives other than it appeared you were ready to trade him regardless. I disagreed with that. We agree that neither of us want Felton. If that is all we can get, I'd rather have Thompson. If one of those others options are available, then maybe.

Part of my motive for doing this is to get people to see our situation completely.
I agree, I find it extremely unlikely we can move him and be happy with the return. We are almost certain to be better off keeping him at least this season. We need to be careful with our spending money like adding Landry into this mix. Sprinkle in Williams who costs a wee bit more than Moute did....it just puts us in a financial bind.
A guy like Casspi who only costs us $1,063,384 paired with Thompson off the bench, would be solid.
But I don't see a way out with our clutter unfortunately unless we get lucky in the draft.
I enjoy talking trades, good or bad, it is a hobby of mine.
Maybe it can be done though somehow, I'm just having trouble seeing it.

To be completely honest, given the background of your "relationship" to the team that you provided, I'm nervous that this is presenting the justification of the team doing something rash. Don't create a new problem trying to fix an old problem.

No doubt, but that's not what I meant. I'm sure no player feels lucky to be a part of the team this season, it's been a cluster-you know what. However, they should be happy that we were at least able to lock up the best possible available coaching candidate, a hall of fame worthy coach. One of highest profile coaches in the Sacramento franchise history, along with Rick. The campaigning Karl did on social media should be irrelevant, what matters is that he's a proven winner and has just given the Kings a much better shot at turning the franchise around.

But not on Karl doing the self promotion.And here is why:
1) Karl is a good coach and he wants to come to Sacto. How many times has that happened?
2) Karl is not getting any younger

4) Corbin was gone no matter what. Might as well Have Karl coaching now.
5) Corbin takes the "Assistant Coach" job in the off season, wink, wink. Front office wanted Alvin Gentry and told him he might replace Malone. Gentry told Malone this. I think the cat was out of the bag. Malone was pissing off the Data Point Geeks.
In most normal situations I don't think it is good to undermine a person in an existing position. But due to all the things we know now it is not like Corbin (or Malone for that matter) was in the Kings long terms plans even though they removed the "interim" label.

funny I never thought much of JT but this season he was part of one of the most productive starting 5's in the league. He should only be traded if value is coming back - this is not a case of addition by subtraction - Jason Thompson is a fine experienced NBA power forward. But these days I just hope for his own sake that he finds himself in a better situation.
He does not cost you games as your 5th starter. He's been treated abominably by fans and FO alike during his time here. Hope that will be over soon.

Yeah it is true from what I've heard.
I'm guessing it is going to cost at least 6-7 million per, maybe even more depending on buyout terms, unless he has a specific place in mind and will take less to play there. Someone will be willing to pay him at least 6-7 IMO on a multi year contract and gamble.

I am also worried that the team is going to do something rash. Curiously, if we did nothing, we would have the same team that started out so well this year. There was nothing perfect about that team but certainly there should be no sense of panic now. We don't need a big deal. We probably need a series of small deals to build up our bench. It's not as exciting, I grant that.

It depends on what is coming back. PDA has let some players go right through his fingers, such as Robin Lopez. The FO seems to want to remove all traces, minus Cousins, of the team in terms of players prior to them taking over. No matter the cost in terms of assets. The team has none left to squander.

In my honest opinion, I believe the writing has been on the wall for Jason since the summer of last year. It really seemed as if his frustrations with our new ownership did not sit well with him and he really displayed his inner feelings in this interview. He definitely voiced his displeasure with how he was given certain tasks that he is unaccustomed to last season which was really indicative of his hopes this year of starting 82 games after Patterson was traded. It comes across to me as somewhat hypocritical. He discusses to greath lengths the lack of "Team" chemistry, ball movement, the ball sticking in certain players' hands, yet he manages to make reference to things that he wasn't supportive of. Something along the lines of "I only get 5 shots a game, I always have to guard the best big, I had to adjust to doing things I'm not fond of. I felt like I had to hit every shot."
