JT and our 3 Point Shooting

I'll make this short. JT needs to find his brain. I know he's in a slump but that's really not the problem. Throughout his career, he has picked up so many fouls. He even leads the league in fouls, and he did last year I'm pretty sure. If he just stopped flying around like a monkey and swinging his arms all over the place, we would be much better defensively. We might still be not that great , but we would be a hell of a lot better. We just give up too many free points this way. He needs to CALM DOWN.

As for our 3 point shooting, one thing Ive noticed during these past 10 games or so is our abysmal 3 point shooting. I constantly see 1-8, 2-15, 3-12, 2-14, Just horrible numbers in general. This needs to improve also.

When these 2 aspects improve, so will our team. Again, the question is when.

To be honest I don't think our team has very good shooters from deep. I thought with Omri we finally had a good shooter but I guess I was wrong.

Well Omri finally hit a few last night. Lets hope that a good sign for the future. Shooters do go through slumps. The problem is that right now, they all seem to be in a slump. Thank god Martin broke out of his, permanently I hope, last night. Strangely enough one of our most consistant outside shooters has been Hawes, and I don't think thats the way we want to go. Even Beno, who has been one our most consistant shooters all year had been a little erratic of late. 24 points in one game, and nothing in the next. If your the coach, its hard to know who you can depend on from one game to the next.

is there going to be a thread on JT after everygame? we get it. hes playing bad... it was the same story a month ago.. these threads are pretty annoying.

I jumped from the thompson roller-coaster a couple weeks ago. If he really is mentally challenged, he shouldn't be playing at all. Brockman plays with a sense of urgency and intense passion. Comparatively, JT is less than Brockman because JT is unreliable from down low and from distances of 10ft. Brockman doesn't even think about taking it up in traffic or shooting the j unless he is completely sure it is the best play. Thompson flat out is a pee poor defender because he doesn't work for his position on D early enough, and on offense he is flat out lost. JT's intangibles have altogether vanished along with much of his game. My advice for a guy who is struggling this much is to do 1 thing right every play.

JT is rebounding well and playing fair defense. He just needs to do those things, shine on the refs, shoot his J, take it to the hoop and keep working on his post game.

JT will be alright:)

the 3 point shot is a whole nuther story.

He needs to play defense without fouling. Considering that he doesn't play good defense and fouls like a hack, that's two birds he needs to kill. I think he equates hustling for boards with defense, and if that's his mentality it needs to change.

As for long-range gunning, we largely live off two players--Martin and Casspi. That's why we're not that good, first of all, and neither is your prototypical sharpshooter. Casspi's shot in particular has gone south pretty much since Martin's return. So now it's only one player we're banking on to hit threes. So yeah, in addition to a shotblocker, we do need a sharpshooter (Dalembert and Kapono for example, but we inherit two toxic contracts).

I hope on wednesday vs the Spurs, Westphal replaces JT with Brockman in the starting lineup. I feel bad for JT, because the effort is there, but in his head, the problems run deep. He seems to be letting the mental aspect of the game take him out of the game before it even starts. And this has been game in and game out for about 3 weeks now, maybe longer.

Going up againt Duncan on wednesday is not going to help. JT will get in foul trouble, get fustrated, go to the bench, and play himself right out of the game. It's the perfect time to start Brockman at the 4, and let JT watch the first 6 mins for a change. He might relax a little, and transition into the flow of the game a little easier. I really don't know why Westphal wouldn't try it, he's done it to Spencer on three seperate occasions.

Although I believe that JT will grow into a good player, I really believe that his slump is strongly mental, and can not get it out of his system. I would prefer for him to start on the bench, then play himself in. :)

Maybe JT doesn't have the mental maturity to stomach it and will instead play worse.

Funny, last season many were calling for Theus' head for not playing JT and Hawes enough, and this season finally JT is getting PT and now he is the one whose head is being called for.

And some of you wondered why I was against throwing JT and Hawes to the fire last season.

Relax guys, JT is in his second year, the Kings is still rebuilding. Just let the kids play and learn.

You're not wrong. You're making a judgement on a rookie slump. He's a great shooter

thompson needs to work on his game. maybe get a nba vet to mentor him on his game? i don't consider reef a good mentor if anybody is gonna suggest him. maybe he should have a shot or two before the game to calm his nerves. LOL he's hyper active throughout the game. it's frustrating when he commits a foul and lets the other team get a +1. if your going to foul, knock them on their *** and make them earn the points........

JT's problem is that he seems to have developed the idea that's he's our primary option on offense. He's not. Someone should tell him that.
His job on the court is not to attempt spin moves or dribble into double teams.

Around the hoop, he needs to takes lessons on finishing from Casspi. God, I love that kid. I've never seen anyone consistently take the ball up as quickly. And seeing him start his career on such a 3pt tear only proves what a great shooter he's capable of becoming.

Nocioni was always streaky, and Beno never was a great long-range bomber. Our main 3-pt threat is Martin, who also happens to be our most prolific scorer and the focus of the defense. So it's no suprise we don't hit many 3's.
