John Hollinger's Kings preview on ESPN.com

This is likely to be a very long year indeed.

John Hollinger's article mirrors my long-established assessment of the Kings' future. I suppose the part that really bothers me is what are the Maloofs thinking? I have a feeling that the "arena issue" dominates their thoughts. The events of the past year, metaphorically, seem like a botched group-suicide attempt to me, a Jonestown scenario where the victims live-on like zombies. Watching the Kings management do their stuff over the past year or two has been as uplifting and inspiring as watching Sophie's Choice and Bryan's Song, back to back, as a double-feature.

It will be interesting to see how many neophyte Kings fans disappear during the 2006-2007 season. Oh well, I could be wrong again. This would not be the first time that I appear to be a manic-depressive just prior to opening day.

I'm pretty sure there will be fans lost. Kings fans have become spoiled. Gone are the days that a mediocre to bad Kings's team is going to have sell-outs. And I think it would be similar no matter who owned/ran the team at this point.

A bad team can survive financially in a big market (see Knicks, Clippers). It will be much harder for the Kings, if interest drops off too much.

I'm cool with the low expectations for our team.... I guess it hurts a lot less, but I really wouldn't know. I'm still excited, though.

Same here. Let's get started already. Win or lose, I want to see some basketball....

I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. Last year I had high expectations at the beginning. This year I'll be happy if they play well against good teams w/o winning.

If we can develop some star quality players this season it will help bring in the big we need for 07-08.
