Joe Maloof wants to donate a police dog

Why does everything have to be a ploy? He basically offered a $10,000 donation. Accept it, say thanks, and move on.

The Maloofs also paid for a full color ad in this past Sunday's sports section in the Bee to thank their sponsors.

Instead of donating a police dog, he should give the gift of life and donate a kidney. The truly generous donate one per year.

That must have been a doozy.

"Dear Sponsors,
Thanks for sticking with us through the good and the bad times, even that period where we refused to return your calls because we were sandbagging the team in an attempt to convince the NBA Board of Governors you guys weren't supporting us. Also, sorry about sending out a PI to ask you pointed questions and kind of accusing you of fraud. We didn't really mean to, we just can't help ourselves sometimes.
Go f- ...I mean, thanks again,
Insincerely, The Maloof Family"

Now if we can just convince the 3 brothers to donate the Kings to an ownership group with much deeper pockets than themselves, along with sincere determination to keep the Kings in Sacramento, all would be good ...

If it wasn't a ploy, you wouldn't know about it. Also, these dogs are trained by the police and that's what gives them the value. At the same time they take out an ad in the newspaper which I didn't see. If they wanted to apologize to their sponsors, they'd call them or do something on an individual basis instead of making a big public spectacle of it. I don't need to know what their relationship is with their sponsors. What is it, ladies? All show and no go? :)

They are very, very clumsy in the way they interact with other human beings. Maybe they never had to deal with people on that level before. It was always master and serf. Now they have to act as equals because suddenly they are not in the driver's seat looking like saviors.

Considering Joe used Twitter to make the offer, it's all PR on their part for season ticket renewals. I'm happy for the PD to get some help and it's sorely needed. But the cynic side of me sees a slimy opportunist in the Maloofs who only go all out when it's time for fans to write checks. I don't just play the cynic every chance I get, but the brothers have earned this reputation.

Ever notice on late night local TV news (anyplace around the country) at end of telecasts filled up with depressing stories they very often sign off with some "happy dog story?" Well, Joe Maloof just played same little card with Kings fans in a depressed state, but smarter people than him see right through it.

Wow, I must be tired. When I first glanced at the title I read "Joe Maloof wants to electrocute a police dog."

Where did that even come from?

I havent seen this anywhere in the forums. I apologize if its already been posted.

While I appreciate the good deed, does anyone else here feel this is just a ploy to take some of the heat off the family Magoof? Strikes me as disengenuous and insincere.

I may have a LOT of problems with the Maloofs, but they have always been generous contributors to charitable organizations, schools, etc. in the Sacramento area. I don't find this at all unusual or any kind of ploy.

Come on...... Joe Maloof has been a known dog lover well before any of this arena conflicts. Add on that fact that he had visited the facility and the dog before, its clearly a gesture made from his heart.
