Jimmer's stats in comparison to the rest of the team: Facts Can't Be Denied

Its a bit surprising that he hasnt been making his shots. But for the most part he's been taking good shots. He's a shooter, we all know that. So im not going to go against him for taking good shots. Sometimes it simply wont fall. We've seen a bunch of his shots rim out; it happens. Probably rookie jitters. Maybe he just needs more shots to get comfortable, kind of like how Cisco's starting to get comfortable. Hell even Salmons nailed IIRC 2 3 pointers after missing 20 something straight in the last game.

IT has been impressive. He has been an impact player. But he plays his best when our team desperately needs him, when our opponents begin to run away with the game and we need a change of pace to make our own run. I wouldnt be against IT getting regular playing time in situations unlike those that we've seen him in. It'll give a more reliable scope on what he can and can't do.

Indeed a lot of his shots - particularly recently - have been rimming out (save for that hideous air ball).

Is it disappointing to see him shooting so poorly? Yes.

Am I worried? Not really. His shot will come back.

Isn't that what every person here has been saying?

I wish. But no. Several posters have acted like he's the worst player on the team. Some have called his worthless. Some have called him out of his league. Some have said he'll never make it and should be in the D-league. Some have said his shot sucks (in general). Some have acted like he's been costing us games.

All I've been saying is that - while he is MAJORLY underperforming for what we all know he is capable of - all of the above statements are extremely false.

Italics,

I like your post. Jimmer has been thrust into the spotlight and forced to start due to injuries. He missed out on the camps, the pre-season and practice time. The NBA game is a blur to a nice white kid with average speed. He has some skills obviously, but needs to get his head straight and gain confidence to start to play well.

These guys are young. It was telling last night that IT a kid with no lack of confidence didn't have his best game, maybe because there is a lot of press about him now and new pictures on the game preview. This guys will improve a lot with time. Give them some slack everyone.

Fixed.

Yup, no doubt that Jimmer is going to develop into a great player. He's already shown potential. There is a youtube poster - forget their name - but they post Jimmer's highlights every game... no matter how few there may be. Watching them, however, I was surprised at just how many great plays he's made this year. He's in a bit of a funk right now, but he'll shake out of it.

Btw, not sure that I agree however with everyone calling him slow. He's quicker than most people realize, and he hasn't had much trouble getting to the hoop even in the NBA, he just needs to get the ball into the hoop more consistently when he does.

Anybody in here remember Kevin Martin's first two years here? How often did this kid dribble the ball off of his foot per game? He looked just as, if not more lost than Jimmer out there. Plus he was surrounded by a better, more experienced team. He turned out alright.

I am not worried about him at all. He has a good amount court awareness, a beautful jumpshot and a ton of heart. This is the first time in his life he is not the best player on the team and he is trying way too hard to adjust his game. It's a phase, he'll grow out of it and get back to doing what he does best. Deep jumpshots.

People calling for us to trade Jimmer right now have no clue as to how the NBA works. Rarely do players with his skill set come in the league and imediately light it up right out of the draft.

We need to focus on this team playing consistant team ball, not focus on individual proformance.

Th larger concern with Jimmer is rarely do players with his size/athelticism/skillset come into the league and light it up at ALL. 9 out of 10 washout or end up as 12th men. Jimmer was pitched as an exception to a very old rule in the NBA that has claimed more undersized college jumpshooting tweener guards than you can shake a stick at. He wasn't pitched as the continuation of some long traditon of 6'2" jumpshooting tweener guards that have lit up the league.

Kevin is the appropriate glass is half empty example to pull on a Kings board though. It took him until the middle of his second year to surge forward. Thing is though, he had prototypical size and athleticism, if not strength, for his position, and as an off the ball player problems with his handle etc. could be disguised. With Jimmer when he's at the point his dribble is constantly under assulat, and at SG his size is constantly a problem he needs to overcome. You can see the new geometry of the game is causing him problems as he is having to flip balls at impossibly steep angles to get them over bigger defenders. What he really needs is to become a pure enough PG to drop the tweener label and match up with guys his own size, but that's the same trap so many guys like Douby fall into in the NBA on their way to washing out.

It would be foolish to give up on ANY rookie with the mess this season is. He looks terrible right now, but I'm willing to hold off on judgement until he gets a real offseason/training camp/preason under his belt. What would cause major concern is if we haven't seen progression at this time next year

Agree with your original sentiments. If I were a long-time Kings fan - as many here are - I'd be more worried about the awful veterans than the struggling rookie - especially when you consider, as you pointed out, the mess that this season has been for the NBA in general.

You are basing your opinion on a youtube video? Are you joking?

Where did I say that?

The only statement I made about those videos was that I was surprised by how many impressive plays he's made this season. The point was that you can see the potential is still there - even though it has been far from achieved yet.

Is your reading comprehension that poor, or were you really just that eager to attack my post?

You said he's shown potential referencing youtube highlights as credible evidence.

That's a far cry from basing my entire opinion on the matter off of a single video, isn't it?

This isn't even worth arguing about. I think you understood perfectly what I was trying to say, you're just trying (and failing) to make me feel stupid about something. Better luck next time making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I don't have to try; you're doing a great job of humiliating yourself.

I'm usually pretty quick to give up on players, and really, really didn't want this team to draft Jimmer, but I think he's still got a solid shot in this league to be an effective offensive sparkplug off the bench. I'm sure that once he becomes settled he'll improve his FG% and will develop into a stronger passer. I don't believe that he'll ever be a lights-out shooter statistically, nor have a 2:1 A/TO ratio, or be anything more than a major defensive liability...but hey, he's got a shot.

When you consider that the Kings went into the draft stating they needed better three point shooting as a team, the choice of Jimmer was logical. Petrie is seldom wrong about shooters. Getting a PG that had a glimmer of being a starter would have created a problem and that simply may be my opinion only. They filled a role need.

I agree with your note entirely and I suspect most of the Kings fans agree with what you wrote. Unfortunately for us and maybe even for Jimmer, his arrival here has become somewhat of a side show. It will calm down and I suspect Jimmer will settle down and we all will be happier. Jimmer needs to be ready when the rest of the team is ready and that's not this year so patience is not only a virtue but a necessity.
