Wow! Ridnour? I loathe Skidflower. Can't stand that guy. Thank the basketball gods I'm not the gm and Petrie nailed Evans.

Thanks, bajadan. Very intesting. With TDOS, it was not only interesting but entertaining as well.

Reynolds thought the closest comparison of Tyreke would be Walt Frazer. I guess I'm one of the few that remember Frazer. I'm fascinated by the comparison because Walt was definitely very good defensively, and he was an "untrue" point guard. He certainly was a very good "all around" guard. It's pretty obvious to me that Reynolds reads these boards. He know about the "true" vs "untrue" point guard arguments, and he doesn't buy the fact that you can't have a great team with untrue point guards. He notes the Boston teams with Ainge and Dennis Johnson and the current Laker team and the old Knicks team. And what about the Chicago teams with MJ? There are probably a lot more as well. I think he agreed that ideally in the perfect world you would like to have the Chris Paul at the one and Kobe at the 2, but that's in a dream world, not the real world. He pretty much just stomped on the pro-Rubio people saying that Rubio wasn't "one bit" better than Ridnour at the same stage of development. In essence, he pronounced the Rubio craze as pure hype.

For those that can't or didn't listen, he said that he watched every game Rubio played and wasn't impressed with him. He said that other than a few isolated youtube highlights, he was nothing special. When asked who he would compare Rubio to, he said Ridnour. When asked if the Kings ever considered drafting Rubio with the fourth pick. He answered with an emphatic NO! I think he has an opinion on the subject.

He also said that the player Evans reminded him of the most was Walt Frasier. He stated that he knew that Evans wasn't a pure point guard, but that he had the ability to become a star, and that right now, a team that just won 17 games needs a star more than anything else. He said once you have a star, the rest will fall into place.:)

I completely agree with his take on ricky rubio and have thought similar ever since the hype began. Aside from some fancy passes, what else will rubio excel at and how is he going to make the kings better? If anything Rubio is a role player and Evans is a star when speaking of potential. Time will tell but im confident those assumptions will hold true.

Strong statements for sure. Very interesting.

Unfortunately I'm also old enough to have seen Frasier play. I also remember when they paired up Frasier with Earl the pearl Monroe. All the critic's said it wouldn't work because they both needed the ball in their hands to be effective. Sound familiar? They both played the point, but Monroe was more of a pure point guard. They went on to become one of the best backcourts in NBA history.

JR also said that Douby could play the point and block shots are useless because you don't get the ball on most of them.

I like JR, I think he's a funny guy, but were talking about the director of player personnel who has taken a team from 61 wins to 17 wins in 7 years.

Yeah, this whole thing about guys who do or don't "need the ball" can get a bit overblown. You hear about guys who can score "without the ball", but that's an oxymoron because I'm pretty sure nobody has learned to successfully score without first getting the ball. :p The only difference in the two types is whether they receive the ball and then free themselves up, or whether they free themselves up and then receive the ball. You can be either type with the same number of possessions/shots.

I never thought I'd say this, but THANK YOU JERRY REYNOLDS! Somebody has to say Rubio is nothing special, may as well be a guy from the Kings' FO.

Guess I will miss the uproar and anger that I received when I compared Rubio to Mark Jackson as being the absolute best case scenario. I was going to compare Ridnour to Rubio but then figured that would have probably gotten me banned.

#2 in all-time assists is a pretty good scenario! If only Rubio had Jackson's post game. One of my biggest concerns about Rubio in the pre-draft talk is that, while there have been a number of successful bigger point guards, I couldn't think of one that didn't have the ability to use his size to exploit smaller defenders inside.

Well if Jerry Reynolds says it then it must be true
You know, I stumbled across something recently which I thought was kind of interesting...

On a site for HR people, in reply to a post about managers and organizations which make really stupid decisions, some HR guy named Jerry Reynolds said that he kept criticisms of stupid decisions private, and tried to rebuild the confidence of the blundering decision maker(s).

Asking a manager, “What were you thinking, ” is easy when it’s just the two of you, and can be a lot more rewarding. Plus, you can help rebuild their confidence by telling them it wasn’t the stupidist thing you’ve had to deal with (if you’ve been around long enough it is very difficult to beat some of the “stupid” things we’ve seen).

Could it be that Jerry Reynolds would try to make the organization's choices seem perfect even if they weren't?

Jerry ALWAYS do that. He is paid to say that. He is a #2 PR man for the Kings. Gavin is obviously #1 and his speech "We all should be excited to get #4 pick" at Central Court was *** **** **** insulting.

Actually, I thought you were being way too generous with the Mark Jackson comparison. I believe that Jackson is the number two leader in career assists in the NBA. Right behind Stockton. Not bad for an unathletic, undersized, can't shoot pt guard.

I guess I should have read futher before making my last post. You beat me to it on Jackson. Yeah, Jackson was good at posting up other points. He was a lot stronger than Rubio.

Hey, you got to give him E for effort. I mean what else was he going to say? Damm, were screwed again, I'm going to go eat worms! Look there's no doubt that Jerry is going to try and spin things to favor the Kings organization. But he's a lot smarter about basketball than some give him credit for. I sat and talked to him for about three hours one night over a few beers. I think that as long as myself and a few other people there were willing to buy him beers, he was willing to stay. But he impressed me with his knowledge of the game. So I wouldn't put to much stock in the country bumkin image he presents sometimes. He knows what he's doing.

I'm pretty sure there's another guy that might be little above him that could have far more dirt thrown on his grave regarding this subject.

Do not get me wrong .. I understand that it is Jerry's job to say that. And Gavin is not a stupid and naive man at all - he just wanna sell tickets and market the product. However, do not you want them to be more sophisticated about it or at least, less predictable or hyperbolic?
