Jeremy Tyler

Entity

Hall of Famer
most of you know he was projected the #1 overall pick of 2010 the year before his senior season then he decided to drop out of school decommit from lousiville and went to Europe to play professionally. so his 2 years are up and he is projected to come to us in the 2nd round. Any thoughts on him?

He was HORRIBLE in Israel. Soft, bad work ethic, unwilling to listen and learn, alienated all of his teammates including those who tried to take him under their wing and help him out. Got ejected for punching a player during a game. His antics go on and on.

Having said that, he later went to play in Japan, and while his stats there weren't spectacular, I read an interview with his coach (I forget who it was but he was a former NBA coach) who seemed to like him and thinks he will be a decent NBA player.

I personally wouldn't go for him unless there is really no one else available in the second round with potential. Who knows, though, maybe he has matured a little bit.

Saw a game of him where he picked up three fouls in three minutes. No positional sense, no idea what he's doing, and the pro game is just way too fast for him. I take what he did in the J-League with a grain of salt, the kid is raw even by college standard. He's going straight to the D-League and probably won't resurface until after Obama is re-elected.

With that said, I saw some good things even in that brief three-minute spell. Despite what was written about him, he is actually a pretty competitive player. He seems willing to do the dirty work, play hard, and hustle. He seems to have a passion for the game. At this point, I question anyone who even attempts to project such a raw player. He's a project in the truest sense, whoever drafts him needs to realize the work that is involved in developing him. I'd gamble a late first on him but no higher.

In the second round, I'd be willing to take a flyer on Tyler. There's no doubt he made a bad choice passing on his last year of highschool to go over to Israel and play. I put most of the blame on his parents. And for them to allow a young kid to go over to Isreal without any adult supervision was pure lunacy. It was just a disastor waiting to happen. That said, it shouldn't brand him for life. Apparently he improved quite a bit in Japan, and in his interviews with the teams at the combine, he got nothing but rave reviews.

There's no doubt that he's a project, but to my mind, thats what second round picks are for, unless a no brainer happens to fall to you. I'm not saying he's my first choice by any means. But I certainly wouldn't discount him. As they say, you can't teach size, and he as plenty of that, and he's a very good athlete.
