January, 2005 Schedule

We are scheduled to play SA 3 times this month. Is it possible we could get to know the Spurs in such a way this coming month that we get their number? Winning a couple of those games would certainly put us in good stead with some much needed confidence. If we can find a way to win 2 out of 3 of those games and still be able to take the gimme's - January also holds promise just this coming week with games against Nicks, Raptors Hawks and Hornets - we could be in good standing by all-star break....though Cav's and Minne will also be tough games.

If King's can gather themselves this month after that crappy homestand, it could be a very promising outlook going into the All-Star Break.

Yeah, I noticed that too. However, like I just read in another thread, Kings have to get to thinking positively about these big games and believe that they can dominate. Think of these tough competitors as obstacles to get around or roadblocks that can be moved, because this is the NBA and they can be moved.

houston *shouldn't* be a problem. i know the kings are better then that team. houston's win over us early this year was a fluke. the rockets have been so bad most of the year. the other games, now those also concern me. they will be tough, but the kings will just have to play hard to win. they can.

i have to say, this 4 game roadie after the spurs game, that is a gift from the schedule makers. could there be an easier 4 games in 5 nights scenario?? i expect the kings to go 4-0. and they should.

Only problem with Houston is we have a tendency to let one player dominate, so if our D falls apart and we dont contain TMac or Yao we're in trouble.

Yep. Those 3 will tell us how good the Kings are or are not. Last year and this year the Wolves just have the Kings number, maybe even they are the Kings Daddies!

january could be a month of ups and downs for the kings. but mostly ups, i suspect. the first stretch, apart from san antonio, has the potential to be the beginning of a major win streak (@ new york, @ toronto, @ atlanta, @ NO, denver, utah, clips, @ clips, portland). i am in agreeance with everybody in saying that those last 3 games in january are gonna be a real test for the kings, and could be a good gauge of where we are as a team. houston is in a big slide, but the game on the 28th is the second game of a back-to-back, with SA being the first game. then minny on the 30th, and all on the road. so, january has got a lot of potential for the kings to push their way a bit closer to the top of the division/conference, and at the same time, test their mental strength and patience, which, apart from tonight, had kinda disappeared.

Who's worrying? Part of the job for the guys, I think, is to look ahead and talk about what's coming up, can't believe they don't do it. Why shouldn't we? Anyway, it kind of takes the boredom and, dare I say, a little frustration out of losing (ouch!). And for workers in a company, if you're not getting the job done today, only thing to do is look ahead and figure out how it can get done tomorrow.

I think the away games this week should result in at least 3 wins - should bring us four - bringing us ever closer to a better seed in post season. Thinking about those difficult teams we will be playing at the end of the month...and the possible matchups...can initiate some positiveness (is that a word?). Anyway...

Yup. And the beginning of the month may be indicative as to whether we can close out at the end....which is gonna be a tough 3 games, true. If we can go into our house and beat SA tomorrow, could be just the pump needed to be successful on the road. A win streak is what King's really need right now, a little momentum change in the W column and all is right with the month. It could happen!

The point I was attempting to make is that sometimes the Kings come out with a definite lack of focus. There's a big difference between workers in a company and a professional sports team. Workers in a company generally have a specific job to do with specialized tools. There aren't too many variables to contend with - if the equipment breaks down, you fix it. It's not like you have to do something different every day...

With a team, you are always facing different opponents with different skills and you need to utilize your tools in somewhat different ways to defeat them.

The Kings have always had a habit of appearing to look past the current teams to teams they're going to be facing down the road and it hasn't always worked out for them...

Right now, they need to be focusing on what they need to do to beat the Spurs. Then they can look at what they're going to have to do on the road trip, when they play four games in five nights. There will have to be some pacing, some resource management, etc. After that, they can worry about what to do at home against their next opponents.

If I may say...you seem to frequently cast dispersions on my observations. I was not intimating that anyone on the King's organization should be 'worrying', or become 'unfocused' at game time.

NBA Franchises are all about business in every way; ENTERTAINMENT business, in fact. That's what sports are...entertainment. So what we as fans think, feel and believe about that business is valid because we (as paying fans) make the business thrive, or not. As fans we make the sports business flourish (or not) by our reaction to the business part of sports. Which business does not look ahead to project what the future holds if they do A, B or C, or cut out D, E or F?

Besides, what player on the ballclub will follow suit if we, as fans, look ahead to see where the franchise may be at the end of the month? None. So no need to guess or project what the players should or should not be thinking about the future, I never said they should or should not think in any particular vein. I was only discussing how myself, as a fan, was thinking.

Comparing the work ethics to our own daily grind only proves that we are all human and HAVE a daily grind, King's are no different. Hey, if they teach the rooks in camp to take care of their money wisely, why not think about future games as well? Makes sense to me.

Personally, I have many variables at my own occupation. Yes, there are things I must do daily to keep the flow flowing and the organization organized. It's called GRUNT WORK, and it's not fun but necessary in order to not get derailed and become unfocused. Looking at what tomorrow may bring is the ONLY thing that keeps me going sometimes, even if it's only to say "Tomorrow is coming" (translation: Today was the pitts but tomorrow could be better if I....). That's all.
