Former NBA star Isaiah "J.R." Rider pleaded guilty to felony cocaine possession in a Marin court Wednesday, adding a more serious conviction to a string of misdemeanors.

Rider has entered guilty pleas on six misdemeanor counts in Marin Superior Court in a domestic violence case involving a woman he was dating in Marin City. He also has pleaded guilty to falsely identifying himself to a police officer and driving with a suspended license.

Rider has been in custody in Marin County Jail since early December after he was transferred from an Alameda County jail on three bench warrants issued by Marin judges.

According to his defense attorney, Garrick Lew, Rider is being held in lockdown for behavioral issues.

He is due to be sentenced Feb. 7 on all of the charges to which he has pleaded guilty.

Prosecutor Tom Brown said Rider could be assigned to a drug diversion program on the felony cocaine possession count. If he does not successfully complete it, he would be eligible for three years in state prison.

didn't he play for the Lakers ?

He got some burn in the first 30 gms and later when Kobe got injured, but he couldn't hang in the tri because he relied too heavily on his post up game (same issue that worked against Payton). He was left off the playoff roster and he reportedly cried in West's office about it.

But since you're curious, there was a game at Sac early that year where Rider hit two late treys to trim a last second lead to 3 pts. Ultimately LA had the final shot, the ball went to Shaw who missed a three, but Horry swung it back and Kobe got it. The Arco fans audibly gasp on my game tape as Kobe set up. He nailed the shot, of course. He then hit a couple shots in OT, leading to a 112-110 win. I like when we have these legit basketball discussions, piksi.

He also played for Minnesota, Portland, Atlanta and Denver...It must have been the 3 years in Portland that "corrupted" him. ;)

I remember that game. We played without Webber and Your best player was Dan Crawford. Pedja had career high 17 rebounds or so

Two out of three are correct, IMHO. The Lakers may have been on the receiving end of more calls but, as usual, if this is the game I'm thinking of it was because the Kings (as is too often the case) were nowhere near as aggressive or assertive.

as far as I remember - Pedja got mugged many times in OT but that is apparently good defense. Kobe got every touch foul possible

I won't argue it with you, piksi, because you apparently remember each and every foul called against the Kings when they play the Lakers much clearer than I.

I tend to look at the big picture and, for the most part, the Kings didn't get the benefit of a lot of calls because they were just too non-aggressive. Did the Lakers get preferential treatment? Probably. Can I still nurse the grudge about it? Nope.

See you gotta pay them enough. But I think the last time the lakers met the kings at arco the maloofs did seem to have figured out the right number for bavetta. It takes practice to become perfect, be patient with them and they will figure out a way to win that ring by paying the right amount

Funny thing, i went to school at Berkeley and i saw a nice Bentley at the car wash one day as i was walking to get some food...i started checking it out with my friend and out walks JR Rider from the station. I talked to him for a few minutes....he played pick up ball at the local gym (typical nba player, a trillion times better than anyone else in the court...on a side note, Nate Robinson came in last summer and absolutely was awesome) and so yeah had a little small chat with him, he was looking to play somewhere at the time. Probably over-seas or something. It's too bad about this kinda trouble he's in now.

I suspect he was the only one there who could say that he blocked a power dunk by Ewing with one hand (while nearly hitting his head on the rim).

JR Rider was awesome back in the day, it's just too bad he threw his life and career down the drain. I hope he can get some help and get straightened out.
